The American people chose quality reliable foreign autos over domestic rattletraps that are intentionaly designed to breakdown and cost you money.its just that simple.top 10 trade ins in the cash for clunkers were domestic..top ten cars sold...were foreign. Huyundai gives a 10 year 100 000 mile warranty. Domestic producers wouldnt dare do that. It would be suicide. Autoworkers have an entitlement mentality that just wont quit....piss on them....just my opinion
And also, why should these seemingly healthy men be retired? In what culture do we expect to have all of the best stuff with no specific skill AND on top of that to quit working early... Sorry, I don't feel for you.
One of the issues that most don't quite grasp is how skewed the pay was in comparison to the rest of unskilled labor outside of the auto industry. Blaming the rich (and I do too) has always been the scapegoat. You take a non-union job from one of the 'Right To Work' states where they started at the minimum wage rate and were not elevated to over 15 an hour after 90 days.
"...driving foreign products" the man says. Gee, okay, pull GM, Ford, and Chrysler out of Europe. They are "foreign." What he really means is "buy my product because you support my job/pension."
No buy my products so I can support your job/pension. I support everyone to a middle class lifestyle. When you buy most foreign products you support lower wages that put pressure on American wages this includes you. Think for yourself don't listen to the talking heads!
When you buy a Fusion Fusion, you support foreign labor. Afterall, where is Ford's big seller built (Mexico if you're unaware)? Better yet, let's pull the iPods and Starbucks from every country other than the US; they're "foreign" and I wouldn't want to compete. I'm not a fan of GOP politics, but I grow tired of this "buy American" agrument because at the end of the day, its a cop-out, and dismisses the reasons why people make decisions as consumers.
So how much is an assembly, unskilled worker woth in gold? I believe there should be a decent wage, but this pension for life with survivorship business is why my generation will be lucky to get ANY retirement benefits. I'm tickled that the baby boomer generation of workers want to take, leave a mess, leave the scene, and continue to criticize. As far as I'm concerned, the UAW is just as much to blame as the failed leadership of GM and Chrysler.
To clarify, I am Canadian. I think the GST is what you consider a VAT tax. We pay 5% GST, 0-7% PST (Provincial sales tax) 20%-30% income tax. Plus 10-15% in miscellaneous taxes including hidden taxes. (Sometimes that later is even more.)
The rate is currently 5% and is imposed in addition to provincial sales taxes, except in Alberta, where there is no provincial sales tax; and in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, where a Harmonized Sales Tax (5% GST + 8% PST = 13% HST) (combined GST and provincial sales tax) is collected.
And these rates will not be applied to non-prepared food. Do a little research before you post your comment. That is if you don't want to reveal your stupidity.
there's no argument there, but why are Chinese goods so inexpensive? besides the devaluing and fixed rate of the RMB by the Chinese govt, the US government has very little protectionism and tariffs on Chinese imported goods, less than 6%; while China posts over 24% tariffs on its imports.
It,s all about the rich manipulating the economies of every country in the world with politicians doing their bidding. The jobs in every developed country are being exported to poorer countries where the rich can pay crap wages and increase their profits. They dont care about workers in the US or any other country they just want to enrich themselves more and are any politicians standing up for the people whose lives are being destroyed. Everyone knows the answer to that question!!
No, you are incorrect. With single payer health care, doctors, hospital and medical care providers are privately owned and run. Single Payer Health Care system, with everyone in and no one left out is the most cost-effective solution possible. This is why Single Payer Health Care is the global standard for the industrialized nations.
The government can't even run a digital TV coupon program properly. Look into CODEX, next they will try to control the vitamin supplement industry, where you will need a script to get a vitamin tablet.
A Level Playing field = Money that has the same value world wide. The weaker currency will always winn all production in a capitalist enviroment. Sound Money is the answer (Gold & Silver)
Judy McReavy is right. The future looks bleak for younger generations due to globalism. Government intervention is not the answer and will only make matters worse.
Single Payer Health Care, with everyone in and no one left out, is "run by doctors" and is the most cost-effective and least expensive solution to the health care crisis in the United States. Everyone in, no one left out. Read more about it and you'll see.
wrong. Govt regulates healthcare so if it must collect revenue for the public option or single payer it will inevitably regulate not allowing good choices for alternative health care. The very fact that legislation would be needed to enact single payer shows how much govt intervention would be in healthcare.
That's incorrect. You need to read about what single payer is all about. First, single payer health care puts the medical decisions between doctor and patient. As far as costs go, single payer health care, with everyone in and no one left out, is the most cost-effective and least expensive system possible. Read more about it, Single Payer Health Care with everyone in and no one left out, is really the best solution for the United States. It would bring the US up to world standards.

Why should a new, unskilled factory worker start at more than $14/hr?
I just started a highly skilled job out of a 4 year university at the same rate. Granted, it will go up steadily but I paid my dues.
14 an hour is a fair starting wage for someone to turn a wrench.

There is more than GM, Chrysler and the Unions to blame.
Without bankruptcy they can't stop an unprofitable product line due to the dealers getting certain laws passed.
If Pontiac is shuttered they need to buy out all of those dealerships, and that would cost more than running at a loss.
