I find Van Johnson to be repulsive and totally lacking in talent of any kind whatsoever. A lot of good movies were flushed right down the tube to Forgetablesville as soon as his name was added to their credits.
@BernardProfitendieu ... On contrare.. Van Johnson had his moments and he had a warmth about him that cradled admirers of all ages. He was terrific in "Last time I saw Paris" among others. We have our own - don't we?
One of my favorite all-time movies, ever since our Jr. High class took us kids to see it in the theater, back in the 60's. I love the production, acting, everything. A magical feeling that comes through the screen. RIP Cyd.
This story line has even more interesting in this present day... seeing how the world spins even faster than it did in the 1950's when this film came out. This musical gets to the longing for something more simple in all of us. Gene Kelly is a treat. There is no one like Gene Kelly. Killer ending.
Too bad MGM cannibalized "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" for this comparatively boring flop. "B" musical "Seven Brides...", with its cheap studio sets and rushed production schedule certainly had the last laugh at both the Academy Awards and the box office though.
Wow, this movie was from my Great Grandmother's time, her and I used to watch it when I was a young child. This movie sure brings back some of the best childhood memories!
I have this video on VHS or Beta that should tell u how old it is lol. Does any have this 1954 version on youtube though? i can't seem to find it here.
@CHANNELOMD Oh dear - very childish. Because you can't explain yourself you act like a little kid. Oh well. Obviously I was right. There is nothing to connect the horrific paedophilia involving a child with the loss of freedom in Scotland. You are clearly making things up...
@Rachiejane1 Really oh dear so you don't think that the Scottish Governments arresting and gagging of Robert Green is an example of the loss of Freedom in Scotland , that when Angolinni hires through the Scottish office Levy Mcrae to protect HER interests at covering up the story in Grampian. I think you should stick to Brigadonn its about your level.
@CHANNELOMD Oh my God - how sad. Bringing this up in a clip of Brigadoon. It's not an example of loss of freedom - it's an example of corruption which, sadly, happens all the time. And if Brigadoon is 'my level' then great; at least I can spell properly!
What a typo really what a pedantic prig , if you dont consider the legal system being open to all not a loss of freedom then you should move to BrigaDOON.
What sort of sad petulant child calls up a 6 month comment and then having not been bothered to look into the facts pulls up a typo, deary me its no wonder paedophiles can run havoc when there are clowns like you about .
@CHANNELOMD You know me so well! To be honest I think it's very sad that you think I'm a child for asking you what you meant by a comment & then disagreeing with you. People have their own opinions. You won't get far in life if you don't know this.
I wish this really existed. If I had to choose I would go into a Brigadoon. I can do without the computer, radio and Television, crime, murder, drunk drivers Oh yes, I would love to have a Brigadoon
has anyone put up Brigadoon 1954 with Gene Kelly(same one that's being shown here). I am only seeing the version with "colombo' lol i can't remember his real name.
@pinky333c you're so lucky! my high school did this play a long time before i was there but i saw it because my brother was in it, and i've loved this play ever since. but there's no chance that my school will do this play because they like never repeat plays. =(
I just bought this movie yesterday and I absolutely enjoyed it. They really knew how to make an audience dream in those days. I always loved Gene Kelly.
My dads all time favourite movie. he would wait for it to come round on tv many years ago and would not miss it for the world. pity we didn't have youtube for him back then. he would have loved it!

Don't you think it might be a director suggestion -- to make the Gene Kelly character more attractive than the Van Johnson one?
I've always found Van Johnson to be a wonderful actor, having observed him closely in The Caine Mutiny.
Look more closely. I think your observations might be superficial.

Excellent movie and trailer. One of my favorite musicals from the 40s or 50s. I will never understand the fascination with letterbox, though.
