@VlcakStalker Ditto, I'm tired of the stereotypes of flash not working on linux. It's a LIE! I didn't even hear about these stereotypes until after I got linux and then I was like "Wait, what?"
First, back away from the mic, or take it out of your mouth when you talk. Secondly, look into video editing in regards to how useful the video is to the audio. Also, Firefox is better than Fedora, and it's available for all platforms, starting with Windows. With that, operating systems don't affect internet speed. Also, I don't have any sacrifice of speed for performance on my Vista system. Though virtual desktops don't come on Vista, I've had a program that gives me 255+ desktops.
Why are you comparing a Web Browser with an OS. Firefox is better than fedora? You might want to know what your talking about OddFacade before you post something. Also is there really a need for 255+ desktop.
You must not have listened to the video here. x.x The guy's basically comparing operating systems, justifying quality by what internet browser they use. Fedora, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Opera... Those are programs. They are not operating systems.
In order to browse the internet, a computer must have an internet browser. Windows, Mac, and Linux have one. Still, the argument that this person posts is improperly titled for the operating systems, rather than the internet browsing capability. Not only has this person made that mistake, but he also claims to use Windows for some work because his Linux doesn't stand alone to do all he needs, unlike Windows or Mac (but I use Windows because I have things that I do that Mac can't do).
I was just saying about your comment. You post "Fedora, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Opera... Those are programs. They are not operating systems. "
All i said was Fedora is a Linux Distro and it is not a web browser. Fedora comes with Firefox as a default web browser, i'm not arguing anything else.
Your what? Your computer? Sorry, but the cursor is constrained to the monitor. But really, what you're saying is that if I'm running Fedora 7, I can just randomly click and I'm online in absolutely the time it takes to snap your fingers? My my!
You failed to specify if it was Wifi or physical connection that you were connecting to.
Meh, lame comparison. No standards, no consistency. w/e
I got windows XP It takes less than a second for me to get on the internet no loading time switching pages. And Minesweeper. Weren't expecting That minesweeper get in this hehe.
as far as i can tell, they have everything you have and stuff that you don't have... audio editing and video editing... and maybe that guys mac is slow cuz my mac's internet is instantaneous.
There are alot of good Linux games out there. 95% of them are completely free. If you run Mint Linux, you can go to there site and download an installers for about 50 different Linux games (most are really high quality FPS's, RTS's, etc.) so you don't even need to mess with the Console.
Plus, you can run most PC games (meaning Windows games) on Linux using Wine. Alos, there isn't a bg performance hit with Wine. Hell, theres alot of people who play World of Warcraft via Wine.
Less that 30 seconds?! Lol- tell them to stop using OS 9.
"Reason the mac came in third?" Well duh, if you're using the same connection to stream 3 videos at the same time, well duh one of the computers is going to be a bandwidth hog. Might also have something to do with you using OS 9.
and dont act like linux is so simple. i have a good understanding, but its still fucking annoying to have to go into the terminal. and anyone with an nvidia graphics card on a laptop, have fun with a shitfest of a blinking screen every 30 seconds. linux will be a true replacement for windows in 3 years but apple will always be the most userfriendly, and alot better of an experience. and u sound slightly retarded in your video. nerd.
im running linux now. it sucks. i changed from vista about a year ago on my laptop, ya sure it may be faster in someways, but every god damn thing you have to find a work around. ya its cool if its just for you, but you live in a world that is about windows and macs. trust me its not alot of fun trying to do something simple like play a fucking mp3 and having to find a plugin. ya have fun with trying to run itunes, or trying to workaround an incompatible iphone or ipod touch.
You barely know what you're talking about, your basing everything on speculation. If you can only run 5 programs, you need to upgrade, badly. You never provided any specific examples at all, no proof whatsoever. Pure speculation. I don't know what the seperate computers are running (spec wise), how old they are, etc etc, so on, so forth. Also, keep in mind that Windows XP is an old technology, very very old.
Another example.I give you a car.. for free.. but i tell you that you can only make 40 miles on it daily. You say that your job is 50 miles away from home.So that wont help you.And i say... what are you talking about?its free....why dont you think of getting another job closer to home?lol.... got it now?
lin you are correct that sometimes you pay more that you are getting from the other os.But the fact remains that they provide you with all the tools to get the job done.A photographer wants the best app(photoshop) for his job.Period.You cant tell him to use gimp cause its free.. since it doesnt meet his needs.
My friend until linux can run all the serious apps that macos and windows can run it ll be third best. You can rationalize it as much as you can but gimp simply is nowhere near photoshop. Also try flash dreamweaver logic cubase autocad 3d studio max etc etc...Linux is good though.. my old laptop runs ubuntu and does fairly ok.But as primary operating system? no way... and dont tell me about wine either... too baggy some programs work and some dont.
They do run. Adobe is slowly increasing its support for the Linux platform, though Photoshop CS2 (not sure about CS3) will run through WINE which is approaching its v1 release. Maya is Linux preferred as well. I use Xubuntu as my primary OS simply because it is an awesome compiling platform. It suits my needs, I have office software, and I can run those pesky timewasters (Minesweeper :D). I don't need the bloat of Windows.
Some do some dont.I dont want to roll the dice whether my app is gonna run on wine or not.Wine is not the solution. Those apps need to run natively on linux. And that cant happen until the "all is free" mentality of linux goes away. Its biggest strenght(free) is also its biggest weakness.Until then.. nothing can beat the stability versatility and safety of my imac.Time is money and the time you are wasting in the command line configuring i use it creating and producing and without the glitches.
No, that won't happen until the developers actually release Linux binaries. It's only the absolute Freetards (read: RMS) that have something against binary only distribution of programs. I have no problem using a proprietary system, but I have Linux that suits my needs and my desire to tinker.
i know what you mean and iam glad that your set up is working for you.My point is that linux cant do everything as its followers claim.Your OS is as good as the programs you can use with it.if someone is a musician or something and he needs cubase you cant tell him run this open source inferior software instead... or better yet... write your own program..lol.

But you have several things wrong.
Youtube works very easily on Linux. It's easier to install flash on linux IMOP.
Nintendo games?
Eve-online has a linux client that works and has AMAZING graphics
The reason not many people make Linux games is because it is so easy to use DirectX
Mac IS Unix and runs firefox the same as linux and will stream video fine
Mac has multi-desktops
Fedora is such a sub-par distro Try out something like Debian, Gentoo, or Ubuntu
