  • So many great aspects to this special tune ! One of many Tull tunes that , truly, should be part of music theory classes at all levels.

  • It is a lovely song, and very evocative. I'm not sure if a lament should be used as the English National Anthem though.

Thanks Jocund Jack for directing me to this beautiful song.

  • Does anyone remember this as a theme tune to an archaelogy programme in the 80's on Channel 4 ? ....I can't remember what it was called (but it wasn't time team)

  • I thought it was a battle cry, Love this song

  • could someone tell me what album this is from???? thanks!

  • 20 years of JT... it's in the info...

  • thanks for that!!

  • Thanks for posting this.I remember buying the box set on cassettes as a very young man and how i liked this song and others a wonderful piece

  • The English National Anthem with an unpronounceable Scots title?

  • Cohr-run-ock. How is it hard to pronounce?

  • @Kayriel I know you mean well, but its "ach" at the end, the same as the"loch" in "loch ness",which is often mis-pronounced as "lock".

  • Make it the English National Anthem! It is beautiful!

  • This was released as a UK 7 inch in June 1986 with Jack Frost & the Hooded Crow as the B-side. So it's actually post-Under Wraps, believe it or not :-)

  • @thenavajoknow

I refuse to believe that this was recorded in 1986. He doesn't sound like a Steel Monkey at all. =P

I can believe it's 80's, though, as you can here Broadsword-like Vettese-synths in the background.

  • @KingHellstrings I agree, doesn't sound like 1986. But according to box set notes, it was released in 1986 and recorded the same year at Manor Studios. Musicians - Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, Gerry Conway, David Palmer. Brilliant song, whenever it was recorded!

  • so utterly beuatiful. I wonder why it's so hard to find (I know it's on that box set)

  • this song was commissioned for a television series called "bllod of the british"

  • This must've been recorded around 1982... I wonder why it wasn't included on Broadsword?

  • Correction... sounds more like 1979. David Palmer wrote the lyrics. So why wasn't it included on Stormwatch?

  • Yes, an astonishing song - it touches one with an almost physical impact and sends shivers down the spine - and a paraphrases from Shakespeare help.

  • not wery known, but a great song. i love this too.

i think, it was TV theme, but not in germany

  • The song was the theme to a program called "Blood of the British" which traced the bloodlines of the peculiar mix of warlike peoples who made up the British Nation.. Celts Romans Germanic

Scandinavians .........Most of them Sailors all of them warriors

  • wasn't this song originally written as a TV theme ?

  • A truly beautiful song. I was almost shocked when i heard it for the first time on the 20 Years of Jethro Tull album. Thanks for posting it!

  • I heard this a few months ago; loved it, and came a few days ago to hear it again. I was disappointed to find it gone. Thanks for reposting!

  • some days ago, i was at a friend's, and i wanted to show her this song. it was gone! i was annoyed and decided to repost ir, it's beautiful. glad you like it too.
