You are my childhood wrapped into a melody. My father who is now dying loved your voice. He was a milkman and as we travelled the country roads of Ireland your songs would blast out from the van.Every note is etched into my conciousness ,your voice is closer than the air to me.I have spent the last 12 years travelling thye world but when I hear you I am back in Ireland. R.I.P Joe.

I met him a few years ago, he was a gentleman and always had time for the people who came to his concerts - god only takes the best - we still love you joe , Rest in peace.
I knew Joe from 1965. This is good.............but his best singing years were from the late 60's to the late 70's. The voice got a little more horsed from all the singing. I remember him being pulled off the stage at a dance in Portmarnock, Dublin one night by hundreds of beautiful ladies. There were almost 3000 people there that night. Greatest artist (in my book) to come out of Ireland ♪♫ ♥
I love this song. When I was little my Dad used to play it while he was cooking, and whenever I hear it it brings me back to a simpler time :P Funny how a song can do that.
When I think of my childhood growing up in Ireland I remember with joy in my heart the magic created by Joe and his music. Many years later I realise he was a very special artist with a wonderful heart and spirit.

@burnell007 The most important is, you understand it now:-) Now you can enjoy this beautiful song and its fantastic lyrics everytime you hear it. So don't say "shame on me". Say "Lucky me!" ^^
Siint Peter said "its you its you its you, Come in and close the gate." Thanks for the memories in ireland and london now go rest in peace. goodgye Joe.
Joe Dolan is a legend, living or otherwise, he was a fantastic performer & singer also a real gent, we are unlikely to see someone of his calibre in our life time again.
Hope people still remeber his music in 30 years time because he represents a famous irish man that lived a great life and i seen him in a concert three times im proud to say !!
Had the pleasure of meeting Joe on a number of occasions when my cousin Jimmy Walsh was his drummer. Met Nodger(roadie), his brother and all the band, what an experience to remeber and Joe was really a quiet kind of guy. Irish Showband/Music lost a lot of great people in the last year. The only good part is there are so many upcoming great artist including the sons of some of the great Irish Musicians ie.The High Kings. But still Joe you'll be forever missed.

Never heard of this Man, I watched a movie on HBO, and liked this song sung at the end of the movie , and found out the Artist, simply love his voice, What a range, More ans More has about six gear,s ,, fantastic. I have been listening to him all day now . Sorry he has passed.
I have been thinking,,, how can an Artist of this magnitude got by me without remembering him (old age !!} I listen to his Music every day!! now Any way,,, what a singer, not knowing a great deal about music, is he a Tenor, Soprano? Go Joe Dolan!!!! R.I.P.
I feel the same way.....why didn't Canada introduce him to listeners across this land? Instead, they play the same old content over & over & over. It's a global world & music should be played from around the world! Thank goodness an IRISHMAN introduced me to Joe Dolan. Can you imagine having been at one of his concerts?

Joe Dolan and his backing group The Drifters were great to see in live cabaret.
I saw them many times at our local cabaret venue - The Garrick Club in Leigh Lancs UK in the early 70's.

When he performs behind the Pearly Gates, what will the Angels throw onto the stage?
Maybe if they took his musical tuition, we may have less religious conflict down here...
