This is a more than special number by Mr. Akens. I was 10 years old when the Birds and the Bees tune became a hit. An even bigger hit with me is "My first Lonley Night" I believe I was 8-9 years old when Sukiyaki came out, a tremendous hit in the USA. But, "My First Lonely Night" is a monument and worthy of greatest praise! What a special tune!
This seems to be a decent interpretation of the themes of the original song. Parts of it are even based of the original lyrics. This is a real treat to find.
This is an absolutely fantastic version of Mr. Sakamoto's song. I loved his song in the 60s; I was just a kid then. I just discovered your song on you tube. I feel it's as good as the original, has the feeling and charm and more. Fantastic! I WAS looking for your The Birds and Bees song and found this one, too. What a surprise. Now I can buy the disc. I love you.
i've always wanted to hear this tune in english. jewel akens has done a great job. so many are a little afraid of doing this tune because kyu did the greatest & he would be hard to beat or even equal. thanks for putting it on.
Although the original is one of the best songs ever......this is beautifully sung by Jewel and it's nice to understand the words to this beautiful song! Thank you Basil!

Other than the original this was always my favorite version, it's amazing.

@20FlightBlues I totally agree. I loved the song in 1963.
but listening to the words in English only makes the song
better.
If you like 1963 music, I have a great playlist, among
my many music playlists.

This is the version that my mum listens to. (: I taught myself to play it on piano one day 'cause i had it stuck in my head.
I know, "My First Lonely Night Without You" "You Took Your Love Away From Me" & the Japanese Sukiyaki. (:

Bobby Vee did this version on one of his "30 Hits of the 60's" albums. A great song by anybody who does it.

Me too - I presume he's singing a literal translation.
SirBasildeBrush 2 years ago
@SirBasildeBrush this is the closest to the literal as it gets. :-)
The other songs just use the melody and the idea of love lost.
