I always found princess Aura far more gorgeous in every sense, than Dale. They both were incredibly well drawn and animated. Best animated Sci-Fi movie of all times!
Alex Raymond would be proud! love this movie, thanx for posting, wish they could make a live action film as good as this. with sci fi popular again you'd think stuff like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers would come back big time.
You know, now that I think of it, the name "Ming" sounds like a Chinese name. In fact, it reminds me of when I was studying Chinese history back in high school and learned of the "Ming Dynasty".
Yes. Ming was originally drawn and written pretty much as a old-style "Yellow Peril" villain. Sort of like Fu Manchu in space. Pretty blatant racial stereotyping, but the comic was first published in 1934.
That's because some of the voices were recast when the series was done. Ming is played here by Vic Perrin, while in the series by Alan Oppenheimer, just like Thun, the lion man is played here by Ted Cassidy and in the series by Allan Melvin.
Here we have Filmation's vision of Aura's extreme sexual appeal. While Dale's beauty is elegant and mysterious, Aura is simply brutally sensual. It can not be other way considering that Dale represents Flash's virtue (that virtue Ming is seeking to steal), while Aura is exactly the opposite: Mongo's temptations.
Later on, we have the whole splendor of Ming's gothic castle: one of the greatest achievements on Filmation's vision on Mongo. Simply great.
I saw this many times as a kid. I'd love to see it again. How can you watch it? It doesn't look like it's on the discs for the animated series.

It's a lot sexier - in a restrained but still overt way - than any other Filmnation cartoon.

Princess Aura is a grown up daddy's girl brat.
What a great character.
They're all great characters.
Zarkof is a great character if for no other reason than his name being Zarkof.

Lionesses don't have manes. But that lion woman at 4:55 had one. Kinda weird.

One thing that confuses me is that those lizard women make laughing noises and such. Shouldn't they be hissing and snarling instead?

thats Lurch as thun!!!
from the capture of Flash onwerds is about where the first episode starts.
again after crashing on mongo in the first ep. flash is held prisoner by the fishmen and escapes to be chased by aura and then taken to Ming.
so this portion of the movie is used for the first episode more or less.
the second episode of the series has the later part of this clip where flash and his friends are the prisoners of the lizard women.
deadman00 3 years ago
fun fact.
in the series ming is voiced by the same guy who voiced Skeltor in masters of the universe.
however the laughter of the actor who plays ming is still used in the opening credits of the series.
listen carefuly and then watch the credits and ull see it.
