You should learn to play the part that kind of sounds like a flute @ 3:09-3:30. If you bow ever so lightly you get that flute effect. It works on the violin.

@dawnofwho Apocalyptica uses hookups + distortion pedals like guitarists use to get a heavier distorted sound. As for the less heavy songs, it's pure cello.

@GoatBlaat - Thanks for the lovely compliment. :] Cello and piano are extremely different, but having prior musical experience is very helpful because you can understand how music itself works. @GoatBlaat The cello isn't easy but you have the foundations of music down after 5 -6 years on piano. You will find that playing the cello is very physical, but if you are interested and you practice, you should learn quickly. The most frustrating part will be learning how to use the bow to get the sound you want, but that just takes practice. Find a good instructor and give it a go! I love playing my cello!

And I believe you about the physical part of playing the cello and the parts of how to use the bow.. But I DO know music and I know when a person has the ability to play from the heart. You can have all the tech skills in the world and still miss that gift. And you've got it all right. So even if they are right, so what? You're so going to get there... you've got the heart that you need for such an emotional instrument.
