  • but yes if you throw enough money and boost at a 4.6 you can make great power...i would just rather have the displacement...all things being equal technology wise, there is no replacement for displacement

  • I love the 4.6 SOHC and DOHC as much as the next guy...but when you can add nearly a liter of displacement there is no denying the benefits gained in torque and horsepower. SHM (Sean Hyland Motorsports) actually makes a 6 liter stroker motor based off of the 5.4. This motor make 600 horse out of the crate despite breathing thru a carb. With a decent electronic fuel injection system to replace it and engine management system you can have and incredible street motor naturally aspirated.

  • @Viper2114 you might want to not want to bad mouth carbs, top fuels make 7000 hp off them, the only reason cars went to fi is for emissions.

  • @coalandnuclear I never said there was anything against carbs..the only bad carbs are ones you eat. I simply prefer fuel injection for the sheer reason that efi systems are easier to tune....and unless the jets are tuned properly you will not achieve peak horsepower with a carb...and efi on average makes more horsepower over a broad spectrum of the power band because the are able to self adjust . But being able to run any fuel you want with a carb is nice since you only need to adjust the jets.

  • @coalandnuclear and fuel economy, and ease of tune, and better results when the temperature changes 20 degrees, the humidity, the altitude, on and on and on.

    Own a carb'd and built engine,and then tell me its not a pain in the ass, especially one that is boosted (blow thru carbs are a nightmare). Then own a modified EFI car, where you tune it once and never screw with it again, starts the first time every time, etc etc.

    The only bad part about EFI is the cost if you don't have it to start.

  • @gutz1988 .... this guy is running a 5.4 4v.... this dude has some deep wallets..... I could understand a 2v or even a 3v...... you're never going to see his numbers in a 2v for sure. you might be okay with a 4.6 3v

  • Not my car, but the stock trans would get annihilated from the power of this car. As for the electronic side, probably a stand alone ecu.

  • no you kinda look like the moron dude.....but no you can't swap cylinder heads from 4v's to 2v's nearly impossible. i guess you might as well try to make a sohc 2v a dohc too right?

  • I don't know much. I've only built 4 Ford engines, replaced the engine in my 2003 Mach 1, and owned/maintained 3 other Ford automobiles. Not to mention the 1965 Mustang that I restored or the two other classic Mustangs whose restoration I played a major role in. I know nothing about Fords. Anyway, I assume that tdhartmann used the 5.4 out of a Navigator. I'd like to find out for sure though.
