ahh i see it has the famous carter model N carberator! good carb! used by clinton kohler, i just pulled one off a dead reo mowers engine. ive heard tecumsehs used them. . . very very popular small engine carb! one of the best! i have had fewer problems with carter carbs than most other small engine carbs!
all my clinton engines had their original mufflers on them of course i swapped them all out now. but your engine has a 50's briggs muffler on it! same muffler my model 8's were all sold with. its a briggs type muffler. clinton mufflers were usually very short. some were that style but made from heavy steel, and then their was the larger pancake style muffler.
well im no clinton expert myself, but i do know alittle about clintons. i know they were pretty well built engines! i have only ever seen one that is blown and i have that engine and it is exactly as i found it!
clintons are pretty good, although i had a bad experience with my first clinton, i got ripped off when i bought it, bought it from ebay, got it and found it had a bad ignition, rebuilt that, had a screwed up carb, fixed that, has a horrible rod knock, the previous owner had also taken it apart and did a very bad job putting it back together, i was never able to get it running right, so its just stored away for a rainy day when i have time
my dad had a few clintons as a kid. he had an old wheel horse with a clinton that he modified into a racing tractor, unfortunately thats long gone, the only engines he had as a kid that are left are the old lawnboy iron horse engine that i restored, the little steam engine and the 2 model airplane engines
most of my engines were owned by my grandparents from both sides of my family! so i have inherited quite a few things that no one else in the family has any interest in.
the only inherited ones are the ones I just mentioned, others were either bought, given to me, or garbage found. I have a bit of a collection, but not nearly as much as you lol
Hey I have a 1989 6hp engine I got off a go kart and I can't seem to find parts for it

Heck, even OMC Snowmobiles used the Carter N, Even in -30 temperatures they still have great reliability.

well thats the fault of an ignorant individual who must have been flying by the seat of their pants trying to repair it.

this actually came off a hay thrower, it hooked up to a conveyor belt that tossed the hay into the baler.
