  • Shut up, you people, Just turn off the lights, pour a glass, and enjoy. This is the best . . . well, I was preparing to wax eloquent, but let's just say. . . this is the best. Thank you, LR. Again. I'm all verklempt.

  • well said.

  • pls i nid a cul good girl

  • Yes, but the tempo in "I have a song to sing, O" is too fast. It's hard to believe that Sir Arthur would have written or conducted it that rapidly. Listen to the 1928 recording with George Baker as Jack Point, conducted by Malcolm Sargent.

  • has anybody heard of 'when jealous torments' which was apparently cut from Yeomen?

  • @mensamoo I think you can hear it in the New D'oyly Carte recording.

  • I love this recording. "I have a song to sing-O" is so beautiful and simple! (and Sir Thomas Allen is wonderful!)

  • LindoroRossini:

With all respect, should not No. 8 be "I've Jibe and Joke."?

  • Would be nice to get "I've Got a Song to Sing-O" as a stand-alone piece. Sure like the singers of this great song. Thanks for posting.

  • What SeattleGrant said...it's my favorite song of all time...esp. with the reprise at the end.

  • can u find The First Lord's Song by William S Gilbert for me pretty please!

  • Don't look for The First Lord's Song. Look for When I was a Lad. Most G&S titles are merely the first words in the song.

    Hope you have success.

  • Certainly did enjoy it. Have never failed to enjoy G&S whether it was top performers in a big theatre or a local troupe in the village hall. Your copious notes much appreciated too.
