Wow that was all lava

@MultiRyanpoole It was the beginning of a huge flow that covered miles of land and took out a house in a matter of days. Wiped out a forest and a remote black sand beach too. If you look at my other methane flame video, it was during the night back further on the flow. The flames were 10' high and maybe 6' in diameter. The best campfire ever. One of 2 shot that week.

@bandbgamesroom Never academically but, I do have 20 years field experience at Kilauea volcano. Its a pretty basic volcano so, there's only so much to know. Lots of waiting to see what happens next. Most geologists and volcanologist would love to have experienced the lava flow activity I've witnessed over the years. You just can't beat boots on the ground field experience. I've also spent years hiking and studying old lava flows.

@bandbgamesroom Thanks. Wish I had better video equipment but, photos were always my thing. I have lots more video from this past fall but, I need a new pc to process it all. Maybe in a month or so.

Why is there a road near a volcano anyways???

@BadManFann The road was there for decades before that eruption started. People lived there. Some still do. The entire island is volcanoes. When it all stops the road will be rebuilt through the Nat Park.

@DarkShroom It does melt the asphalt. Nasty toxic fumes. You can't get the smell out of your clothes if caught down wind.

@10DegreesBelow A large lava flow slowly made its way down the pali (cliff) over a period of months and eventually covered the end of the road and later 3 houses. These types of flows have been common for the past 25 years.

@333stalker The entire area is now buried under 30' of hardened lava. Several square miles.

@Pleiodes I often cook on the hot lava on my longer hikes. Not on the rd. the burning asphalt stinks and is toxic.
