Right, 1972, right after the Michael Jackson episode, was when they began to use this "Little Rosie" theme to close the final year on ABC. Well, with that, there have been only 4-7 episodes of The "New" Dating Game that reran on GSN and from the '78-'80 version, only about 10 but I'm not sure if Rip Taylor's 1978 appearance has ever made it to GSN though since Dating Game beyond the ABC Daytime/Primetime version really didn't get a regular spot in reruns.
Actually, according to clips I have seen elsewhere on YouTube (I did not see the reruns on GSN), Barris began using his Dixieland-like theme before the end of the ABC run, which occurred in the summer of 1973. I suspect it therefore began somewhere around 1972, probably as a cosmetic touch to help the show's faltering ratings against the NBC soap opera "The Doctors." The 1973-74 revival was basically an attempt to keep the show in production; it failed.
I remember Johnny Jacobs used to say "The Dating Game is a Chuck Barris Production in association with the American Broadcasting Company!" something sadly missed these days!
Not the most flattering pic of Jim Lange, lol. Looks like he just had his IQ divided by 20 and lost a game of chess to a cactus.
