  • This was my favorite version as well. The music, narration...I miss it :-(

  • This is my favorite version :(. So sad they took my song out of the end. It's so pretty. Thanks for the upload.

  • I just went on this ride a couple days ago and I do not like how they updated it and took out the fiber optic lights. :(

  • the music at the end is fantastic! i miss this version as i'm not a big fan of the new one.

  • @TECfan1 The idea is that the planet Earth is like a spaceship, progressing and traveling through history and innovations (or should I say Innoventions :P) as its namesake vehicle would through space. This explains the exterior of he attraction which, in fact, is not made to look like a golf ball as some think but a stylized representation of Earth as mode of space transportation.

  • when did they change this? when did u ride this?

  • Has anything in this ride changed since this was filmed. I am going on a trip in August and I am a Disney Historian, so I am waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy exited, and I need to know everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why isnt it called travel through history? the current name sounds like a space ride. xD

  • what they have done to this ride is a sin

  • Its like a history lesson in 15 minutes!

  • I miss this version a lot :(

  • i don't mind the minor changes so much; i think its still true to Disney. as long as they don't do a full overhaul on it i can manage. the new version isn't as classic as the old one, but it doesn't feel "too new" that it takes away the sense of nostalgia. of course, me being a disney fanatic its really hard to piss me off when it comes to Disney World -- excluding the closing of the clubs at Pardise Island of course.

  • i want to go on this high as hell

  • @blondeeagles Please don't ever come to Disney World again. It's supposed to be a family place. We don't need stoner trash like you walking around on drugs.

  • i miss disney world soooooooooooo much

  • It's a shame this ride should have been left alone..I agree at best if change was necessary the narration of Jeremy irons should remain.. I am a big fan of this ride. .Some people may think of this as boring but i don't...It's incredible how through the origins of time how communication via technology becomes very important in our daily lives..

It gives hope how one day in the distant future communication will be so cool!..Check out the tunnel part till the end of ride...

  • i loved this ride whenever i went to Florida, but it's been years, never knew they changed it, hope it's close to the one i knew.

  • I enjoyed it. I really liked the huge space room at the end. I Was in awe :O

  • I still remember riding the new version for the first time and at the end all I did was look for the city and the fiber optics. I have been sad on a ride in Epcot twice, that ain't right.

  • OMG, I remember riding this every year when I was a kid! The new version isn't as good as the old one.

  • @ztslovebird I totally agree! Once again a classic ride ruined..

  • personally i dont think they need to redo it. its grea the way it was. on a hot day during the florida summer...its nice to sit down and chill with the AC in this ride.

  • This ride needs to be updated. It's sooo old! It's changed a couple of times.. here & there.. but it's like they can't think of any more future stuff.. cause all the future stuff has already happened! LOL.

Great recording though! Thanks for sharing! :)

  • @Eszlee1 Yeah, this is now not the current version. They updated it back in 2007 and Dame Judy Dench now narrates it instead of Jeremy Irons.

  • @frikitiki I was so sad when they changed it =[ I loved Jeremy Irons, and the end used to be SO GOOD

  • @Kieili I loved the Walter Cronkite version with Tomorrow's Child. I like Dame Judy's voice, I just don't like the script she was given.

  • @frikitiki but something is about to happen... *cringe*

  • @Kieili Agreed. The Jeremy Irons version was amazing. They just had to ruin the best ride in the park...

  • @Kieili the end was fabulous! why'd they change it

  • @Kieili Amen they should have kept it everything was better

  • @Eszlee1 TAKE THAT BACK. The Judi Dench narration, the weak new music, and the stupid gimmicky screens on the ride cars... the ride is crap now. Used to be my favorite ride in WDW.

  • does this ride go upside down?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

  • No it doesn't go upside down. the care turn around at the top and descend at a steep angle.

  • @frikitiki now that you mention it, the entire ride is going up, and then when you go back down, they say something lame about going back in time. It seems like an afterthought. They could have done something more substantive while going back down. It's still awesome however.

  • no and its not fast at all you bairly go 1 mile an hour

  • @giesch33 dude i promise its not scary at all it only goes like 2 mph the whole time

  • i can't wait i'm going to walt disney world in may and can't wait to ride this. it's awsome casuse you can make your own future . i love the ride.

  • THE BEST ride at Disneyworld. Amazing music score, scenes etc, which they have now changed!! Everyones favourite bits have now gone :( Joys of Disney, they keep changing great rides, when will they realise just to leave alone!!

Journey into Imagination..... rest my case!!!!

  • Try night vision might be better if u have it.

  • i love this ride

  • Are we supposed to be able to SEE anything in this video?

  • i can't believe they got rid of the giant "EPCOT" sign, it was soooooo nice

  • i hated the EPCOT and the wand and the 2000 that they had up previously... i love the classic look of spaceship earth alone.... and i miss the old ending too... i don't like the pick your future thing

  • i didn't go there before they put the wand on, so i didn't know

  • i remember ridin this with my dad it wuz so long!!

  • I like the new ride alot but I do muss the fiberoptic effects i wish they would keep everything new but add the old back in and I think I liked Water Cronkites voice a little better. I like how they made the ending kind of like horizons and the music sounds like it a little but to. i think horixons will always haunt epcot in a positive way.

  • i wish dwight howard "superman" signs autographs of fans visiting this park!

  • I qued 2 hours for this ride

but damn it was worth it! haha

  • I agree, its not bad actually

  • My Favorite Park besides Disney Quest is Epcot and this is always the first ride I stand in line for because it sets the tone for your whole experience in Epcot after you get off

  • I never appreciated this ride for what it was before they changed it, and now it's gone.

  • It's not gone. It was just renovated and there are really not that many changes at all. The beginning part of the "passage through time" has not changed, besides the narration, since the ride opened in 82.

  • Well, I meant the version of the ride that matterered is gone.

  • It IS changed. A lot. Like everything is completely redone. SO weird.

  • I LOVE THIS RIDE :D

  • this ride is soo boring, but the stuff inside is still awesome

  • I miss the old Spaceship Earth. :[

  • I agree with you there. I miss walking into the station and hearing the old music, the Irons narration, the old ending.... Now the only way to ride the old SSE is via YouTube videos.

  • this ride is so fun when you go down the center of it

  • About a year ago they updated the ride and it takes your pic as you first go on and at the end they took out most of the animatronic figures and instead put a pic of your head and put it on acartoon character you can watch on a little comp in your cart

  • This is bay far,one of my favorite rides at Epcot.I always ride it whenever I am there.I have'nt been since February 1,1992 when I went with my Mother,we had a good time!!!

  • This is one of the most beautiful rides Disney has to offer. My favorite park is EPCOT and Tommorowland in the Magic Kingdom =]

  • a great ride when you need to take a walking break or get out of the heat!

  • i cant believe that they got rid of the stuff at the end of the ride now theres 4 walls around you and you watch this stupid screen.

  • The screens are so cool, the video at the end is hilarious!

  • ha ha, the trash can is still there at the begining =D

  • I like some of the new stuff, but really misss the visions of future communiciation near the end. The way back now isn't anything.

  • I completely agree. Last time I went on it, they had barely even finished the ending and it was literally held together by staples... which really took away from the effect...

I guess they figured that it was just safer to do it that way, not prediction what is to come because the future will come so fast anyway. Still, I miss the old Spaceship Earth.

  • What was in the old Spaceship Earth that's not in the new one?

  • I have a video of the old ending to Spaceship Earth on my channel; I couldn't reply to you with the link in it.

  • Actually, just watch the last 3 minutes or so of this video. The part where people are talking to each other with the screens and stuff, and all of the neat fiber optics is the biggest part of what's not in Spaceship Earth anymore.

  • i hate the updated version they have completly fucked the ride up now

  • i agree!

  • i love this ride so nice and calmm

  • I have always loved this ride and was thrilled that the latest version didn't ruin it. I like the touch screen stuff at the end, but I do miss some of the cool stuff they had for you to watch as you went backwards. It's nice to see the older versions again.

  • i hate the recent renevation on it. it was much better before

  • it has been a while since ive been there...but the obly thing i noticed that was gone is the communication between the two people at the end..and the new thing is the touch screens things

  • yea thats the part i dont like is the screens cuz it takes sooo much more ride out

  • the mosaic is beautiful in the beginnig...i dont care what anybody says...this ride is a classic and one of my favorites

  • rock on

  • im going here 2day!!! gonna get fastpass for testtrack and then gonna ride this lol

  • If you are going to wdw just for thrilling rollercoasters then dont bother going, you are going for the wrong reasons...

  • Yeah, I know.

Busch gardens is the place to be! lol

  • The new version's OK, but I really miss this music score...

  • i like the new update on this ride

  • Wonderful ride, I loved it, fav. bit is the finale.

BTW, is there really a need for bad language GH3BOYXD?

  • love this ride, i loved the end survey

  • my rocmendation is donot go to a park on extra magic hours day although the park time is extended people tend to go there on that day, when you dont go on extra magic hours day the park has less people and you get to see alot of attractions and you dont need the extra magic hours

  • wow, what id do to go on this ride again

    i miss epcot x\

  • i liked this ride i miss miami :'(

  • we got stuck on it rite b4 the area where they watch the movie and the phone r made

  • the best time to go is november or december when every one is in school

then tell me about no lines

  • Thanks for posting this, the old version is still the best.

  • I got stuck on this ride for an hour and had to hear about the railroads and 1930s

  • lol :P

  • if you go to diney and you ahve never been on this ride then you really havent "been to disney"

  • What year was this recorded?

Also, when (meaning time of year and/or time of day) did you go--there's virtually no line!

  • The video was recorded Aug 22, 2006. It was summer and it was HOT! I don't remember the time of day. I know that later in the day usually has shorter lines than in the morning as the crowds move to the back of the park.

  • Usually the crowds in the summer go out to eat and when it rains, most tend to leave. However, I have annual passes and the rain doesnt bother me so while the Florida storms are going on, I stay on indoor rides

  • I was there that august a couple weeks earlier :)

  • That new version of the ride sucks! The old one was 100 times better! =(

  • I agree with you; I miss this one so much, and I only saw it once. I dislike the company Siemans now XS

  • Rides in Epcot are contracted to change once a new sponsor takes over.

  • judy dench=failure for ruining this

  • Thank you for posting it BEFORE they ruined it with Judy Dench.

  • Judy Dench?

  • The new narrator who completely fails to capture the spirit of the ride.

  • oh sorry. I didn't know they had a new narrator

  • Please Stay Seated And Watch Your Kids,Please Stay Seated And Watch Your Kids Head On, Apply To The Forhead Head On Apply To The Forhead LOL ANNYOYING, Eh?

  • i saw my mom and me in this video

  • i love this ride

  • THIS IS AMAZING!!

  • love this ride...wanted to go again and again!!

  • It took me less than five minutes to get on that ride...ah but it was worth it. I did like it.

  • WOW ive been to Walt Disney World 12 times and ive never been on this!! xx

  • you should, it's relaxing and good stuff to look at

  • Didn't a guy die on this ride?

  • don't think it was spaceship earth that someone died on..it was mission space, that it happened on

  • I heard that some guy got claustrophobic and jumped out and got ground up in a motor.

  • Not quite, he had a heart attack

  • Does anyone remember Spaceship Earth BEFORE the upgrade in the late 90s? I had the priveledge to see it in the mid-90s, and all I remember, is them using old-school big screen tv's as video-phones. I guess only the second half was the real change, and the after-ride things. I also remember when Universe of Energy DIDN'T include Bill Nye and Ellen Degeneres, that was a trip. :-)

  • Yup, I was a CM there in 1986

  • one of my biggest dreams when I was younger, was to work, or even live in within the 47 sq mi. world of Disney. Being that I've always been fascinated with the quality of Disney. The sound, music, technology, top notch. I always thought that they on top of everything. It's in my genes, music, sound producation, technology. Yeaa...

  • i work in disney during the summer. I usually just end up working in a cafe. But one time i got to be a tour guide on Jungle Cruise.

  • this ride is not scary at all, it goes like

1-2 mph just showing yu from the past, present and then the future. good ride though

  • I'm one of those people who gets scared easily by rides. Is this ride scary?

  • not at all. It's actually kinda relaxing.

  • so true, if you've been walking around the park for a while it's always good to sit down and watch this.

  • nah its an educational ride, but its actually very good.

  • I love this ride

  • this is a classic. and it kinda upsets me that the music and narration has changed. i loved the score. booooo

  • i rode this when i was like 4 or 5. it was first time at epcot and it was the first ride i rode.

it's when i first moved to orlando

  • is this the newer one or one of the older ones i really cant tell

  • To anyone who has ridden it since the refurb:

Is the new narration any good? I've actually heard good reviews about the ride overall; however, there are complaints about Judy Dench.

  • I rode it back in December. Dame Judy sounded good. She had to say some lines though that I didn't think sounded right with the wording. Like the climb, didn't really did the decent. But then again, it was a soft opening and they have been making changes since then.

  • Thanks, still sounds like its a good ride.

  • I did get stuck on this ride! But it was at the end when you're on the moon, I think. It was really cool.

  • is it really gone or is it still there?

  • The structure is still there, that hasn't gone away. The show inside has had physical tweaks along with a narration with Dame Judy Dench.

  • referb goin on right now tho, got to ride it the day before it closed. :( im not sure when it supposed to pen back up, i think May-June?

  • no, not that late...about the next month. Check the WDW site for refurbs.

  • Man, I love that ending - thanks for videoing it. I'm so sad that they got rid of it! I hope they've sparkled it up a bit since the previews in December.

  • When I went in October it was closed because of new management. I was so depressed.

  • I got to see the sneak preview in December. I like the 1st half, but the second half needed work. My understanding is that they have been tweeking it based on feedback.

  • gah! ily this ride! lol lke all the othrs- omg but evrytime i go on ths ride, (iv been on it lke a million times lol) 1 of the cavemen in the beginning yell "ooba day! ooba day!" lol i knw it sounds retarded but they do. any1 else evr hear tht?? <3333

  • spaceship earth is now open. Im going this weekend. Cant wait.

  • Oh god, this ride is fun, but so slow... can you imagine getting stuck in one part?

I can... hell, I lived it! You want to talk about torture!

  • The sounds are amazing!!!, i love the sounds around 12 minutes

  • Thanks for putting the "Tomorrow's Child" theme at the end. It brings back great memories. I used to have 1 CD and 1 tape with the song on it, and now I can't find them. :(

  • My first ride i've ever been on at Disney World. Very interesting. I like the part when your at the top of the sphere and you feel as if your in space.

  • that woman in front of you at the beginning looked slow

  • this was a nice relaxing ride after getting nauseous on Mission: SPACE

  • Aaaahhh!!! It's scar!!!! (Jeremy Irons is the narrator)

  • its a great ride, but too bad the video's so dark in places

  • last time I was on it was in the spring of 2005...about halfway through the light fairy type area, the ride stopped for about half an hour :/

  • me and my friend when on this ride

last year!! we had so much fun

  • Is that Vivaldi's "Summer"?

  • Possibly, that initial music is the background music and I was there during the summer when I filmed this.

  • It's the Future World Medley from the WDW Soundtrack Cd

  • i went in augest it's colsed until november they are redoing the ride. i love this ride@

  • i love this ride... i am so scared for the refurb.... :(

  • Thank God that they took the horrid sign down. Now let's hope that after the 25th anniversary of Epcot, it would start becoming what Walt Disney truly intended it to be: A piece, or a vision of a perfect future.

  • Thanks so much! I'm kinda sad about the refurb....

    :(

Now, I can remember what SE was always like!

  • Don't know totally what the refurb will hold. All the ones in the past have been good upgrades. I'm sure this one will be too!

  • Nice video bro. This is going on my favorites. Not that I am against the refurb but it has nice to have this video to reference what it used to be like!

  • That ride is so amazing, I love it so much, there were rumors a couple years ago that they were going to take it down and put a roller coaster inside, if they ever did that I would never go back to the park, out of all the attractions they have removed over the past years, this should never be one of them, it is the greatest ride ever in any theme park, it tells such an amazing story, the story of our life on earth, the past, present, and future.

  • sweet, thanks for that. now I can go back to the park without getting sick from looking at that horrid thing.

  • I heard the god awful mickey wand is going down. I hope this is true. It ruins SSE and everything it stands for. Man I miss the 1982 EPCOT.

  • It should be gone by now. there are pictures on the internet showing the various stages of disassembly. to visit a tribute site you can go to epcotswand with the dot com.

  • I've never been on this ride, but it looks very nostalgic and I dig that! Kinda reminds me of Adventure Through Innerspace when that ride was active. I'm definitely gonna check this ride out when I go back in the Spring!

  • when you go back, it will probably be different than shown in this video as it is undergoing rehab as this is written. I think it's November when it's supposed to re-open

  • Refurbishment will be good for it, though I don't think removing/changing the scenes would be best. This is about the history of communication and all the points they show in time are pivitol in the display. Love this ride, thanks for posting :)

  • Thanks for the compliment!

  • This ride is the best!

  • This ride needs to be updated or torn down. The sleeping Monk in the Monastery Scene? Woodrow Wilson from MK's hall of presidents. The large, bald slave in the Egyptian set? William Howard Taft. It's horribly dated, the exhibits are dated, and the technology is late 1970s. Update it, or tear it down.

  • Apparently you aren't keeping up with everything. SSE is currently down in order to update and rehab with the new sponsor. Not supposed to open up until I think the Nov time frame.
