  • if you are willing to put in house rules for hp gain of tanks and different bonuses for other classes (such as the cleric can make a heal check to use extra healing surges and a healing surge that a cleric grants can get knocked out characters - 0 hp back to 1 hp) it can overcome the fact that it is overbalanced, but that is better then the underbalanced other versions.

  • I glad they fixed minions.

  • love 4th ed keep up the great work wotc

  • good info. love 4E, by the way. keep up the good work.

    VS

  • and you cant type or spell so shut the hell up

  • Why such a retard tarboy62. Im not pissed its just funny that people who are not smart enough to spell or type seem to think that other people want to hear their lame ass opinion. Also good second grade come back with the small dick joke man you are really good. Do all the people who are smart enough to type and spell right a favor and stop posting cause all you do is lower your own intelligence by posting.

  • you are pissed off i just posted that i think the new dnd was crappy and poorly made and you called me a retard and told me to "shut the hell up" i never attacked you until you or your posts if you like the new dnd post why dont just call me names. i read the new dnd before i posted here and i do have poor spelling when i dont spell check it but it is the ideas not the spelling that matter

ps you realy sound like a jerk

  • I told u to shut the hell up yea u posted the dumbass jonson joke then i called u a retard and i hate to say it if the shoe fits you might want to put it on. Now all i am saying is that if you are going to post a opinion about writing and designing you should be able to spell that helps with the credibility. If you think it is so bad lets see the stuff you have designed but please be sure to use spell check if you post it.

  • hey eberron13 i was not happy after the last post from ether of us im not a man of hate in words or action i just felt that you were unjustly mean to me after my first post and i over reacted from then on. lets start over i think the new DND was not very good in fact i think it stinks i will play 3.5 instead if you are offended by this lest me know why

  • Cool.. I have no problem with you not liking the game i over reacted my self. In your first post i felt like you insulted a person i know and happen to have alot of respect for. I am sorry for name calling and all the bull crap that has been posted. Once again i have no problem with you not liking the game and i am all for you playing any version of the game. The first insulting comment is all that set me off but that is not a reason to be a jerk. sorry

  • all the terms he's using make me think of command and conquer, and WoW...

  • Well I can certainly understand why WotC would like to make D&D extra simple for those just beginning, but I know those who have played since the dawn of time so to speak and they believe that 3.5 was exceptional in character development. It would seem though there has been a huge focus on combat, does that mean the Roleplaying aspect is recieving a bit less attention? Just voicing a common fear among the RP masses. Again GamerZero thanks for the awesome insight. Gnomes will not be forgotten.

  • Combat has been made easier to plan out and execute. That leaves MORE time to roleplay, not less. This is the common and VERY TRUTHFUL counter to that fear. I am more confounded now as to why such arguments persist than I was before Star Wars: Saga was released, because now you have Saga as an example and thousands of people playing it who have given their testimonials. Roleplaying is improved. It doesn't suffer in the least.

  • 4e sux.

  • Have you played it, or are you just presuming? If you have played it, could you be a little more descriptive of why it sucks? If you're just presuming, well, I am skeptical too, but I'm at least going to give it a fair look before I count it out. ::shrug::

  • Nah, no need to play it, its a WoW MMORPGized, dumbed down through retardation, Homogeneous, Power gamey, button pushy abomination of D&D that will kill D&D if it does well.

  • "Nah, no need to play it, its a WoW MMORPGized, dumbed down through retardation, Homogeneous, Power gamey, button pushy abomination of D&D that will kill D&D if it does well."

Wow. I can take this only as baiting, as these fears have already been put to rest by those who have played it and Saga.

  • Its only WoW if YOU make it WoW. I do not understand how you can make this comment based on no facts cause the books are not even out yet. Oh yea and second edition almost killed dnd it is at its height of popularity (sorry my spelling is horrible i think) right now. So i dont see how this will kill dnd.

  • negatives for telling the truth. DAMN!!! lol

  • Cant wait for GRZ 0 #35. Sara Girard is lovely. She must think I'm a stalker from the D&D forums. I'm just curious I promise. I'm actually from a good southern family. I just wanted to illicit my interest...

  • Someone said there were no more attacks of opportunity, but I guess that's false.

  • I am still on the wall about 4th edition. I got one of the 2 preview books, and wasn't overly impressed. Whenever I hear new information I have good and bad reactions. However, every time there is a video about or from people who have gotten to play it - they seem to be happy with it. Perhaps most videos have edited out the people who didn't enjoy it, maybe not. Until I can see it, learn it and play it, I guess I won't know for sure.

  • Since you've seen more than I have just through the preview books, what were your negative and positive feelings about it?

  • To name 2 of each:

    Cons:

-Race Changes - Gnomes are now a monster, halflings are taller, and elves - well they removed elvish subtypes and made 3 separate races: eladrin(sp) - magic users, Elves - woodsfolk, and Drow - underdark. No subtypes.

-Skills made too broad - knowing how to pick a lock and how to pick a pocket should be separate.

    Pros:

+Simplified Combat - Supposedly it's easier to play.

+Humans now have an attribute bonus like other races, to put wherever.

    Just my opinions.

  • I agree about thievery being a bit weird as the same skill. The race stuff is technical, since they're still adaptable as their old classes. Really, if you think wood elves in the game fit your idea of elves best, switch them all to that kinda elf and just add or subtract what you think a subtype would have.

The combat looks more complex to me for some reason, but I haven't seen the game yet. I like the human ability bonus too.

  • I guess I will be able to tell you more in a couple weeks. Even though I am on the fence, and not even sure my group will ever switch over I just pre-ordered the 3-book set. At very least I will be able to satisfy my curiosity and perhaps educate myself enough to see whether or not to try to convince my fellow players to swap to 4th when our current campaign ends.

  • I really dont think that removing gnomes was a bad idea cause to me and the players in my game the base book gnome was really shitty. Now the gnome in the eberron books were really cool or at least i thought so. If you played KotS i think the battles go easy overall.

  • well so far 4e has yet to impress me. and minions just killed it

  • Why? The 1hp thing? I get why they do it. It seems a bit odd, but it would be nice to be able to wade through a bunch of monsters without getting snagged on a little peon on your way to their boss. Still, if you were really low level and happened upon one of these higher level "minions", I wonder if its armor class would really make up for its lack of damage potential.

  • A little reading of authors like Michael Moorcock (Elric), Robert E. Howard (Conan), and Edgar Rice Burroughs (John Carter of Mars) could change your opinion. It could be really energizing to hack and slash through a hundred minions, describing bodies piling up and the ground flowing with their blood and feeling like a hero.

But why should you be turned off by something you're not even required to use? It won't have ANY effect on your game unless you WANT to include minions.

  • That's how I look at a lot of this sort of stuff. It probably wouldn't be too hard if I wanted to tool with it, and it doesn't cost me anything to get other people's impressions before/if I decide to buy :)

  • i thought that minions where part of the core rules and that the game assumes that you will be using them. was i wrong?

  • They're not required. The discussion is about the Monster Manual. All the categories they mentioned are for the GM to be able to build a balanced encounter. Encounters do not have to include minions. They do not have to include any one category. The GM balances the encounter as they see fit. They are not railroaded into included a classification.

  • I want my books now.

  • ME TOO!!!!!!!

  • GIB GIB!!

  • I can't wait!
