  • i guess you have to take things into your own hands. there is a lot of injustice in the world.

  • it is about money money money. no one likes psychologist and psychiatrist ignore all. they are all sick. everyone is sick. people who come to power and abuse their power.

  • Yeah, they should do more to stop, I agree there. I'm pretty sure Ben Goldacre is doing more than enough to stop pharmas withholding negative trials. That's UK though, I'm not sure about US.

  • @MiroslavMalesevic I don't like Ben Goldacre because he's a psychiatrist. He has done one or two articles on psychiatric drugs but very few compared to his attacks on homeopathy. On his website its very hard to find any criticism of psychiatry and psychiatry still uses Electroconvulsive Therapy. Imagine what he would say if alternative medicine was using ECT?

He would probably be lobbying govenment to get it banned but because psychiatry does it he stays quiet.

  • Do you even listen to what your saying? seriously compared religious placebo with psychiatry. OK I agree it's funny to watch you telling crap but try to make valide correlation. moreover is it normal you confund freudian psychanalyse with psychology (when your title is psychiatry). and also try to read valide sources like academic journal article (google scholar is your friend) insteed of refering to youtube -_-". and lying to people as you do (ie: flate) has nothing to do with placebo effect.

  • @gugustat There's nothing wrong with comparing religious placebo with psychiatry because psychiatric drugs like antidepressants are infact tested against placebo in their randomized controlled trials.

Placebo is placebo whether its religious or medical etc. And I don't think your going to learn much reading psychiatic journals because they are allowed to selectively report data.

  • @caketheory Academic journals are not allowed to selectively report data. If they do it, it's a fraud.

  • @mrjedidja There's no law to stop them from selectively reporting data.

If you go on google and type "Dr Erick Turner science watch" he explains how its done. He also published a study in the New England Journal of Medicine which looked at clinical trials involving 12 different antidepressants. He found out that once the trials were sent to the FDA psychiatric journals were allowed to selectively report data.

  • @caketheory That's old news. Doctors and psychiatrists (whom you call quacks) DO KNOW about pharmaceutical companies hiding the negative clinical trials and they don't endorse it at all.

  • @MiroslavMalesevic Not all of them do I'm afraid. The study I quoted was only done in 2008 and Dr Turner (psychiatrist) worked in the FDA and it was only then that he noticed a large number of negative trials. He said up until that point he never knew there were so many because psychiatrists only see the ones in the journals.

Also to say "they don't endorse it" isn't good enough. They should do more to stop it otherwise they are being complicit. Whats the point of EBM if they pick & choose.

  • Is this the pity party? Take responsibility for your own downfalls. It's not society's fault YOU have a problem.

  • @AgentxAnonymous I have taken responsibility.

I've identified the things that affect my mental health like too my stress etc and I've done things to change my life and get better. This isen't possible to do if psychiatry tells you "you have a disease".

  • I remember an Adverticement shown on every TV Channel every day for months. The TV said that a woman that was a Doctor approved a Drug from another woman with no Medical experience at all that can make people loose weight. TV Actors came along and helped sell the Weight Loss Pill but later on they admited that they never took it themselves when it was discovered that the Weight Loss Pill was actually Aspirin but with a different name. Somehow people did loose weight by taking a fake pill

  • Very true. You dont need the priest or doctor to have this effect. You can use this effect yourself too to keep yourself not getting sick at all or cure yourself.

  • The placebo effect has been around for even longer than holy shrines and Christianity. One example that comes to mind is from the Indians on the Columbia River. The wind often blows there excessively, so their cure for this was to burn the branches of a specific plant- the evening primrose- to make the wind stop. It probably happened often enough that the wind did stop to perpetuate this belief. But do we really control the wind?

  • great video. =)

  • I think its great that you can speak out about this, and unfortunate that these mofos up and here want to oppose you saying your experience and opinion from actually experiencing it.

  • You take someone who's "shy" for example. Society alienates them because most jobs want confident people. Then some of them are so alienated that they go crazy and can't function anymore. So instead of people like you helping the person out by making social change, you sit on the side lines and give them "advance therapies to alleviate their symptoms" which is a travesty. And its the same for people who are hyperactive. Hyperactive people need to be out in the open not forced to sit down at school.

  • the problem with social phobia which could called extreme shyness is the persons perception not society. You have an oversimplified view of psychology/pstchiatry and are missing out on some very helpful treatment due to this blinkered attitude.

  • Hi Atoyota. I think you missed the point completely. Obviously people are going crazy but the reason is because we live in a world where people understand the concept of going to war but don't understand the concept of helping you out. I don't like the word diagnosis because it implies theres an illness when its just people reacting to an impossible social situation. Also "therapies to alleviate symptoms" are there for people to make a living out of other peoples social problems.

  • I agree with your message on this video. We should question out world and not be sheep led to slaughter.

I did view your other (previous) video and felt the message was not good. People with mental illness should seek help and diagnosis because there are advancing therapies that do help. They may not "cure", but do alleviate symptoms and once diagnosed, supervision and maintenance as followup is critical.

Overall I see you as negatively skeptical.

  • Hi everyone, Don'y forget to look up "benny hinn" on youtube the master of placebo. The video "benny hinn in south africa" demonstrates my point.
