I wonder if two people have ever tried playing it together. I mean look at it! I looks like you need 2 sets of hands to play it efficiently. Nathan did a great job though.
The 2010 Wanamaker Organ Day will be held on Saturday, June 26.
It opens at 10 AM with Ken Cowan, and a special recital at 11:30 AM by Peter Richard Conte and other guests, which will be broadcast on Jill Pasternak's "Crossover" show on WRTI (90.1 FM). It will close with a Conte recital at 5 PM.

If you notice a very slight timing difference between Nathan's hands and the sound, that's the nature of playing the Wanamaker Organ. Due to the pipes being about 75' away, there's a slight delay in what the organist hears. Keith Chapman told me that you cannot listen to what you're playing and have it come out right. This why the Wanamaker is one of the hardest organs to play
petes125.......much like our late friend and Wanamaker Maestro Keith Chapman's arrangements! I agree with Fozzymaple, he'd be a wonderful replacement, should that occur. My whole family knew Keith and Sally Chapman personally, sometimes being entertained in their Chestnut Hill home! YES - Keith had a small pipe organ in his house! WOW!!!
I met Nathan on Wednesday night at the first recital of his UK Tour, at Christchurch Priory. To hear him playing in person was absolutely awesome, and to see him playing without any sheet music was magnificant. A truly gifted guy, and very friendly to chat to as well.
I sincerely hope Nathan becomes the next Grand Court organist!!! By far a better musician than Conte. By that previous statement I mean Conte's a good player, but his playing lacks the dynamism and real musical drive of his predecessor, and of Nathan. I heard Nathan live at the 2009 OHS convention, fantastic player and a really nice guy.
Anyway, although I only live about 30 miles north of this magnificent instrument, I have never heard it played live.
Wanamaker's is now a Macy's, but free 45-minute recitals are still held twice daily except Sundays. There are noon recitals as well as 5:30 pm concerts daily except Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Wed. & Fri. recitals are held at 7:30 pm.
Wanamaker Organ Day will be held Saturday, June 5, 2009 from 10-6. Admission is free.
@DRL1320 - No longer 30 miles away, unfortunately. I'm now more like 100 miles away - after I lost my job in June 2010, I had to move in with my retired mother near Hershey, PA. I do get back to the Delaware Valley on occasion.
@OldsVistaCruiser Sorry to hear that bad job news. I hope your job picture is looking up. I just heard Laube for the first time live. He played here in my city and it was stunning. He played two big transcriptions of his own including one of Liszt's Les Préludes. Very exciting and very clean and polished, too. Fantastic!
I Like this video! Music is very well done.
