Hell yeah didn't know this vid existed. Saw them with Celtic frost in Seattle as well. I remember the band Running Wild getting boo'd and flipped off the whole time, they dressed just like Judas Priest. We followed the bands back to their hotel, helped carry their beer and stuff in and partied all night.Blacky smoked us out
Dave Grohl's interview about VoiVod sums it up perfectly. The first time I heard them was when I was like...fucking...10??? And all I could think was "Holy....Shit...What is this?!!!"
@JohnSmithAprilMay Probably cause they were :) Voïvod didnt have a penny for years...i paid a couple of beers to the singer at one of HIS show cause he was flat broke ! way back in '86 in Quebec City.
@davesykes1966 I didn't even hear them for the first time until like a month ago. They were one of those bands everyone's heard of, but no one's ever heard. Back in my metal youth, the magazines could not praise them enough, but no stores within 50 miles of the Canadian border seemed to stock any copies of their albums. I do like them though. Even though I'm a punk guy, I'd love to see them live.
@gunsncrocker Hi gunsrocker. For answer at your question, Listen these album: War and pain (1984), Rrrroooaaarrr(1986), Killing technology(1987)Negatron(1995). You got the hits of Voivod and really good Thrash metal. Enjoy! I hope you wiil like it because i do.
@nazisucksass I think so,,Voivoda is the name of a war , voivods are the warriors,,if I remember right...but check on Wikipedia, every is there about the band.
Hm. I am half Bulgarian, half russian (and live in Bulgaria). War in Bulgarian (and Russian, but pronounced differently) is voyna and the voyvods in Bulgaria were the leaders of guerilla squads up in the mountains during the Ottoman rule in Bulgaria... I'd be very cool if the name has actually something to do with that
@nazisucksass You're partially correct the name actually comes from Voivode which Voivod toke from Bram Stroker's Dracula. The Voivode were govenors, Dukes, princes of which Dracula was one. Dracula is known as Voivode Dracula. I once read an article where Voivod said they got the name from Dracula. But you are correct the title was also used in many Slavic countries. It does refer to a military leader. And was the highest military rank in Serbia and Yugoslavia.
@seanyboy69 i know this album already i see rush 3 times and i am a big fan, at the time songs like working man and finding my way to give you an example was heavy for the time 1973 i think, but again you cannot consider rush as a heavy metal band !it s progressive rock !
All my company loved this song at that time, speed metal was very popular but Voivod evolved in technical/prog.thrash metal later. There IS a lot of great bands from Canada:RUSH!!!!!!Triumph, Exciter, Loverboy,Voivod,Annihilator,Headpins,Lee Aaron...i loved them all.
One of the most original bands ever....too heavy for the soft-core saps, too fast for the plodding drones, too innovative for those who like it done with three chords, too original for those who want the same crap recycled....Away, Blakey, Snake and Pig...you guys were, are and always will be bitchin'.
The lineup for this show (World War 3) was Voi Vod - Celtic Frost - Possessed - Nasty Savage and one I can't recall. It was a Montreal Thrash Fest. The video for Ripping Headaches was filmed the following year at the No Speed Limit Festival. 2 days and too many bands to list.
@kewinajohnson yes!!! The WORLD WAR 3 tour!!! Also saw that here in Toronto. LOve the footage of the show WITH NO BARRIERS at the stage! I miss that aspect...
