  • This is a piece of music that's been stored in my brain for years. It's great to hear such a good quality version! Great!

  • The title of this music is "Teenage Carnival" composed by Keith Mansfield taken from an album called COLOURS IN RHYTHM published by KPM music.(KPM 1029).

  • I'm still looking/searching foor the CLOSING titels !

  • FAB isn't it? And I've hugged Wendy Padbury!

  • A very young Tom Owen ( Bill Owen's from Last Of The Summer Wine, son )

starred in this as did ~ A very young Eric Pollard from Emerdale also starred in this & Wendy Padbury who starred in this was married to Melvin Hayes from It Aint Half Hot Mum.

Though I cannot find any information on Ray Armstrong.who starred in this fab tv series.

  • i live in southampton and my dad worked at southern tv in the 70s

on sunday afternoons i would walk around the studio with him

and all the sets were left up

houseparty , runaround, out of town and heres one for you

  • @igglepickles Southern TV was the best years of TV as I can remember many of the Fantastic childrens programmes

  • Simply Amazing !

For some reason I kept searching for the three wheelers and got know where until I went on wikipedia.

You cannot beat the 60s and 70s kids programmes

Thanks for sharing and a big thank you for bring back some very happy memories of a sad childhood.

    Thanks you.

  • UFO,Captain Scarlett,Catweazle,Timeslip,Robert's Robots etc.Kids today haven't lived.

Long live the late 60's early 70's.

  • Fantastic! For some reason it brings a tear to the eye.

For those of us down on the south coast, the theme lived on for a while as BBC Radio Solent used it as the theme for 'Sportstime' for some time.

As others have said, thanks for making it available.

  • Wendy Padbury, sigh....

  • Fantastic tune! Bit before my time but I love it anyway. Brings back memories when I was a kid and how I loved to watch tv. Thanks people.

  • Thanks Pam! This tune has been in my head and I have been whistling it through my teeth for over 40 years, and I remembered it was from Freewheelers! No one believed!!!!

The old brain still working then!

  • Great stuff, i'm skipping around the living room like i'm 8 again, what memories, thanks for posting.

  • PAM, YOU FANTASTIC WOMAN! Forty two years i've wanted this music. THANK YOU!!!!

    FORTY 2 YEARS!!!!!!!

  • I have just purchased series 6 from Amazon but can anyone tell me the exact location where Ronald Leigh Hunt pulls up in his car in the opening credits? Many thanks.

  • This series is now being shown on FILM 24,thought you would all like to know...the next episode is Sunday January 10th at 1.30 pm.

  • Wendy Padbury! Great stuff!

  • I loved this theme it never becames commercially available...pity

  • Thanks to everyone who's commented and enjoys this FAB music!!! Like many kids in the 60s, I loved this series. There's not much of the black and white episodes in existence, but there seems to be a fair number of the colour ones out there. Maybe they will appear on a DVD some time, by Network DVD perhaps. I've not yet come across any of the Chris Chittell eps so far, which is a shame as I fancied him something rotten back then!!!

  • you can get them on dvd - look out simpledvd of barnstable

  • wow!!! thank you.

  • @Pamfino2 A total of 104 episodes over 8 series were made. The first five series were all wiped by Southern but film prints of the entire series 1 and a single episode from series 2 have subsequently been recovered. The final three series (6-8) exist in the Southern archives. A Region 2 DVD release of series 6 was made in April 2009

  • @Pamfino2 In 2010, reruns of Freewheelers are being shown on the British satellite television channel Film 24

  • Brilliant Thank you so very much ! And this is from a middle aged person who enjoyed the series when it was first shown.

  • This version isn't quite the same as the one I've got on a '60s library music LP... This one is in stereo (mine isn't) and the ending is arranged slightly differently from mine. It's still a great piece though!

Where is your recording from, Pamfino2?

  • I downloaded this recording from the site of a guy I knew on my original Pamfino channel (which got nuked for copyright reasons - swines!). Unfortunately, I've got the memory span of a gnat these days so I can't remember his name. This does seem to be the version played on the TV shows though. Double fab, isn't it!!! ;-D

  • Great TV programme, fantastic TV theme, bought the series 6 DVD and now this - so grateful for you putting this on Youtube after all this time so we can all enjoy the full version.

    Thanks

    D

  • Great theme tune.

  • can't listen to this without shivers of childhood nostalgia running through me.

  • I've been looking for this theme for over 20 years! So glad you posted it and in stereo too! Wish it was on CD or iTunes but thanks to Pamfino2 and YouTube I finally have it!

  • Brilliant tune from the master musician Keith Mansfield. I first heard this on Sounds of the Sixties about six years ago and fell in love with it.

  • At last found this tune. From the very popular serie from the 60's. I'm using it now as my ringtone. Saw all the episodes. Thank you for posting. Hans Jansen Malden. Holland.

  • Brilliant theme to a classic series from the golden era of TV! Someone kindly sent me this full version some weeks ago - I'd been trying to get it for years.

  • Thanks so much for posting this tune, I have been trying to get a copy of it for years, it really lifts my spirits, this tune.

  • I remember this tv series really well, it was one my favs, it was about 1969? . Great theme tune too. It was from an ear when childrens tv was decent , moral and showed respect to adults when children put others above self , Unlike todays kids telly !

  • Great track, never actually herd the full version but remember watching the series when i was a younger lad. thanks very much for posting the track. Much appreciated

  • Remember the series and the theme tune very well indeed - I was at high school at the time, and it was my favourite programme. And I just loved the theme tune: to this day, I can hear the Southern Television jingle (the older one) and then that drum intro kicking into the tune and still sends a shiver down my back!

Thank you so much for posting this - I've been wanting to hear the music again, and especially the whole piece, for many years.

  • I remember the tune not the series , .its the brass section still in my mind from time . Great to hear again . Thanks for posting . john

  • Thanks so much for this! I vaguely remember seeing a few episodes of 'Freewheelers' in the early 70s, and could just about recall the theme tune, but i didn't realise there was a 'full' version. Excellent!
