@ronjhomer I know this is a very belated reply, but I too was in Royce Hall in April 2011 and it's amazing how Nobu became the center of attention even in the presence of the world renown Takacs Quartet. It was too bad that he didn't give an encore that night. I wrote about that concert on my "nobufans" site. Thankfully, I got to see more of Nobu in Boston a week after the UCLA appearance.
It is now November 2010, more than a year since the Cliburn Competition. Nobuyuki Tsujii has turned 22, and has become an international sensation. I thank the Competition audiences and the jury from the bottom of my heart, for giving recognition to Nobuyuki Tsujii so that the world gets to know and adore this very special artist. I saw him perform at a recital in October 2010, and came away more impressed than ever. Best of all, Nobu seems to be having the time of his life - so happy!
Nobuyuki, despite his blindness, has incredible mental resiliency and a technique with a sound colour that is amazing. This great artist also composes and definately has a gift of lyricism that is very captivating. It almost gives me ideas about starting to compose myself. Nobuyuki is the supreme example of a person who overcame a disability to accomplish the seemly impossible. We are glad to have him in our midst.
He is amazing. Nobuyuki is inspiration to people, with his mental toughness.
Regular people would practice for 3 hours, but Nobuyuki has to take like 7 hours to achieve the same status. It shows that he REALLY loves music, and he is dedicated. I envy you!
@pookiehohn I agree entirely, people have to remember that Nobuyuki Tsujii only knows his life the way he has lived it. Without "sight" he's a true musician, a great spirit and we are lucky to have him.
He is so inspiring !

He clearly deserved to win because of his outstanding ability. His disability( if one were to call it that) had nothing to do with it.
