I did a cover of this song with a friend. Does anybody know how to contact Jay Lansford??? I want to post my cover music video on YouTube but I want to make sure I don't need some kind of license or permission first.
This version is my favorite. But I love that the Vandals covered it, because it's an homage to a great song. Also love that the pic in this video caught an Angelyne billboard.

OK the vandals version is "slicker" but this version was the one I know, love, and remember from my youth. I was a 13-15 year old kid living in Sioux City Iowa, and Beach Blvd. and many other comps layed the ground for what became a great midwestern scene. Myself and the other "15 or so" kids at the time that had enough guts to walk/skate downtown on a friday night with thrift store button shirts w/ saftey pins and bleached hair, to go to a fucking movie at the Riviera loved it! take care man!
This is so much better than anything the Vandals could even hope to do! Vandals are novelty music AT BEST. This is punk. Whoever is saying the production on this sucks is fucking retarded.
I agree, the Vandals version sounds better. We were in high school when we wrote this song and were teens when we recorded it in 1979. The production is Low Budget (at best). The Vandals recorded it 16 years later.
It's a very good song ;) You did a very good job. Both versions sound very similar, all the way down to the singer's voice. The Vandals version is just better produced. I'm a fan of both :D
@ampegsvt666 -I think the vandals covering it is an honor of course but I'm glad I've finally heard the original version! -to me this is what punk rock is all about-just like the Ramones you wrote an amazing pop song and played it hard and loud with attitude."bubblegum with teeth" as Joey would say.-And you may have been in high school but you were smart enough to know not to take yourselves too seriously which is more than some bands with members in their 40's can say.
@ampegsvt666 damnnn '79? That's sick to hear how punk was already pretty strong. I'm young (17) so I have A LOT to learn about the history of punk. Love it <3
I BEEN INTO PUNK FOR THE LAST 18 YEARS OR SO AND THIS IS TOP SHELF
!!! MY BUDDY JOSH GONDERSON MADE THIS SEEN AND TURNED ME ON TO THIS!! THANKS JOSH AND THANKS SIMPLE TONES, IM 29 AND LOVE THIS SHIT STILL!
