  • I served on her from March 1969 till Feb 1971 have very fond memories of her shame to see her locking so forlorn the buffer would have a fit

  • It makes me so sad and angry to see her like that. I last saw her in 2000, When I had a look to see what work had been done, I noticed that she hadn't been painted in several areas since leaving Glasgow How did I know that? Before she left Glasgow (in 1991 or so) we had given her one last paint and rust treatment, Evidence of which was still around years later,

  • @Faultline54 Glad you like the video, there are some more I've took on here if you want to see them. There are some highly interesting tales in the ships career. As of now though sadly she still sits in Birkenhead in the same spot. There was a new berth agreed but for some reason (full details unknown) her owners didn't draw up the sale even though they want rid.

  • How did you get access to this dock? I walked past last week or the week before and couldn't see any way of near to HMS Plymouth. Any help would be appreciated!

  • @IanD1905 Hi, I just phoned up the harbourmaster and asked if it was possible to go in and take some pictures, they were fine with this and also took me inside the ship and I got loads of photos. It was very creepy as there is no power supply so your fumbling around in the torch light but the photographs came up great with the flash! It's still set up as the museum inside as she was when she closed.

  • @TheF126 I don't suppose you could message me the phone number could you please? I'd really appreciate it.

  • @TheF126 Grease some politicians palms that might help Its bad situation for warship museums all over unless they are in large tourist area such as carrier intrepid, Midway or BB Missouri

  • A disgrace that the City of Plymouth didn't want her after she was built at Devonport and served the nation gracefully. I did hear that she could be on her way to Cornwall.

  • @clydeferries Yes and the latest news is that MDHC have not drawn up the sale agreement which they have been doing since November 2010 and she will have to sit in Birkenhead until next year now - I just hope this dosent make interested parties uninterested!

  • @clydeferries The People of Plymouth do want her It the City Council that aren`t interested. We have the chance of a naval heritage centre ,perfect for showing her off but the Council say " In the current economic climate it is imperative that there is no risk of these liabilities falling on the public purse".

Many thanks for uploading this video

  • Hi

Im about to start building HMS Plymouth I have quite a few pics but I would welcome any more pics you might be able to send me if possible?

Im particularly interested in the area around the upper hangar next to the emergency conning position below the aft mast and any pics around the MRS3 and the base of the main mast

  • My old ship, grand lady, sad to see her in such a state, thanks for posting the video.

  • @henryvagincourt Your Welcome! I have many photographs and video's of her, if you want to PM me your email I could send some or whatever to you. I believe there are plans to have her moved by May 2011 now - hope it happens this time!

  • @TheF126 hi what are they going todo with her i heard that plymouth wont her back

  • @man12345mn That's been widely said but it's never happened. The latest is though she may be going down to Truro this summer! They have agreed a berth so with a bit of luck it might actually happen. Let's see..
