  • I spent two years working on this piece when I was thirteen. Then I lost in a competition to an eleven year old playing an incredibly easy hungarian dance that he spent a few weeks learning to play. Why couldn't I have chosen an easy and simple song like him?

  • i can never reach this standard... WOW:)

  • ..im 13..stuck between 11 and 15..

  • began the piece yesterday....page 4 gets to me..all the others i can play at normal tempo

  • the way you play makes my chest hurt. Keep at it. Be sure not to loose all your rough edges. This song has a horrible habit of coming off like a practiced robot if played by the wrong violinist.

  • I love this video, but you play better than me! I am 11!

  • great job otherwise

  • its funny how she fakes being passionate. closing your eyes and swaying won't fool me.

  • I dont hear any change between the Forte and Piano parts in the begining? Maybe Suzukis opinion was involved in this to make those dynamics. Was this original music or Suzuki version you played in?

  • i play the violin too and i just started this song. I'm 11 and a half. I know the first page already but not the others. They are very hard. At least i have a good violin teacher. Im already playing in weddigns cuz of him--$455!!!! Im rich for being 11 and a half!!

  • You are absolutely amazing!! I'm a freshman and just starting this piece now but there is no way that I could possibly do it as well as u!!

  • awesome....you should look at my version on my channel... good job though.

    little adjustments are needed.

  • Very nice:) you slide a lil bit on your notes though... Make sure its nice and sharp!! ^^

  • Age matters. If you are 7 years old and are forced to play by your parents, you definetly aren't going to have much feeling or emotion into the music.

  • Wonderful

  • Other than that it is wonderful

  • Did you miss up??????

  • Good work

  • I am working on this song right now :)

  • Absolutely wonderful

  • This piece is taking me forever to play perfectly, especially at the double note parts... Practice is the only answer...

  • good but try to remember dynamics, make the vibrato softer.

  • I like your trill :)

  • it's helpful!!!!!good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i noticed that the violinist opens her mouth a bit when she does the 32 notesssssssss at the end.

  • cool i needed 2 make a script for the talent show emcee thingy and somebody was playing it so this was perfect

  • Gese... I'm playing this for solo and ensemble today and I'm watching other people play it before I actually go play and this girl was by far the best... I hope to god I can do that good in a few hours! Great job!

  • You are verrrry good but there are some things you could do better. Like why are you so serious? You have to smile sometimes, not too much but just once or twice :)

And the second thing is dynamics. Sometimes I get bored of song becouse there is no tension and story, everything is the same. Boring. But I can see that you practised it million times or more ;)

    Well done!

  • Any tips on how to master the part before the finale...the part with the chords mixed with the A string?

  • hey... lets give some credit to the pianist shall we?

  • @MrJpnkilla Pianists are underrated xD. The pianists always play the more complicated parts anyway. Who care

  • intonation was a little off around the harmonics, but still a really good job! la folia is not an easy piece...

  • Could do with more expression on the face :) but all in all you're great :D

  • i played this song for a recital last sunday....let's just say she played it better than me :)

  • impressive

  • Very impressive - excellent, precise fingering. You look like you really enjoy playing. Well done!

  • Very impressive! You look like you really enjoy playing. Well done!

  • i hate this squeaky violin shit

get yo yo ma out here

  • @frooben If you don't like 'squeaky violin shit', why are you here?

  • @azerothpromqueen81 i was hoping I'd see something other than a plank with wire and a stick

  • @frooben Watching someone play is as beautiful as the music itself. A shame you can't appreciate that.

  • @elfennauu i didnt say i didnt say anything like tht. dont be so afensive. net u couldnt hav done tht in years anyway. now, i know the whole song.

  • @elfennauu i do appreciate it. shes better than me. why cant u appreciate my comment???

  • i love la folia ever since i heard it, shamefully i never got to book 6. :( but awesome played!!!!

  • dawww :)

  • :) dawwwww

  • Don't use the Suzuki edition. It's just not a good edition. Also, maybe try Baroque violins. Baroque music sounds wrong on modern instruments

  • i'm playing this right now.

  • Comment removed

  • you are amazing

  • The runs of 32nd notes before the Adagio part are kind of rushed.

    Good job! :]

  • wow! You're awesomee !!! :)

  • im doing this for my 6th grade violin recial im in advanced suzuki =0 nice tone

  • You are so sweet playing this piece. Great performance.

  • how old are you? cuz this is really pretty

  • im learning this right now, it's driving me nuts, i will go mad, so i'm watching your video to hopefully learn. ahahhhaa

  • i only hope to be that good one day

  • wow you can play very good. I play this song also :).

  • play it too but you are much better than me ^^

    liked it ur skilled

  • awaosme , but in measure 33 (start if Allero moderato) my violin teacher tells me to play in middle bow =( lol oh well and inthink the part of ADagio was just.. gorgeous and im 11 and im using this piece to get to AYCO instead of AYSE :P

  • awaosme , but in measure 33 (start if Allero moderato) my violin teacher tells me to play in middle bow =( lol oh well and inthink the part of ADagio was just.. gorgeous

  • awaosme , but in measure 33 (start if Allero moderato) my violin teacher tells me to play in middle bow =( lol oh well

  • im 9 and im working on this piece..you

r so good!! wish i can play like you

  • I'm 11 & I'm playing this. :) Very nice job! XD I agree... more dynamics... but it's really good

  • however, nice runs though

  • I am playing this song for a story-teller for one of his stories.... You might want to add more dynamics. For example, make your forte's louder and your piano's softer. Try to add more emotions too. Also, the first time you have the 8th notes (3rd partish) make it loud and slightly detached. But the second time you have the 8th notes make them softer and more staccato. I personally think that you are too young to play this and with the correct emotions. Also, work on intonation and e squeek

  • I think it sounds good. I agree with the dynamics but I think that your age doesn't matter when you play a violin piece. It's not about how old your are but about how well you play it and how advanced you are. Age doesn't matter at all in violin playing. I play this piece and I am 11.

  • @cooldodobird I agree! I don't actually play this piece yet (I'm in book 4) but I know a kid who's 8 (I think) and he can play this piece quite well.

  • @cooldodobird i agree i got 100 on this song wen i was 10

  • @cooldodobird OMG thank you for posting this.... this totally goes against the fact of prodigy (=,,, cause in the end we all master what we strive so hard to achieve right!

  • @cooldodobird I completely agree about age not mattering. I don't play this piece yet, but there's a kid I know who takes violin at the same place I do, and he's only 8 but he can play this piece, and he's a pretty amazing violinist.

  • @cooldodobird Same

  • @cooldodobird , Age doesn't matter, except when you're 23 and too inexperienced to play in an adult orchestra and too old to join a youth orchestra, then it's an enormous drag. FWIW, I can't play as well as this girl and I've been playing for two years (piano and guitar for 12). Feel like I've missed the boat and I'm never gonna get the chance to be a part of something, even if I turn out to be a great soloist (pfft, yearight).

  • @puddingpimp DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

  • @

i think age matters. with age a person gets to experience more of life. how they see things changes and what they can put into their music in terms of emotions increases. so for a 5 year old to have high amounts of expression is typically not widespread. only the prodigies could do that. but at some point, if you cannot feel music, it doesn't matter how old u are. even at eleven, if you feel music you will play better than someone who cannot... so its kinda complex like that. but keep it up

  • @koreanswmr16 I don't think there's really a correct age to play anything. It depends entirely on the on the person. An 8 year old could excel at this, and an adult could do terribly at it. And I think this was a quite good performance. Yeah, maybe some thing could have been improved a bit, but I thought it was very god.

  • I agree that she could use a bit more dynamic, but I disagree about having to be a certain age to play with emotion. I think it's more about a personal connection to the song or the style of music than age. There are plenty of violinists in their 40s or 50s who play without emotion.

  • you might want to try and not twist your head so much at the beginning =D cause ur basically lying down on the violin ;) Good luck and great interpretation!

  • she's rlly gooodddd

  • My friend played this for her solo exam, and she's 14!

    Very nice.

  • i play this at 17 yrs

  • Wonderful (^o^)

  • Great job!!!!

At a young age, to be able to play like this.

    Hahaha i feel intimidated now..

    I played this when I was 13.

    and I totally sucked.

  • perfecto !

  • i skipped book 5 in order to learn this piece

  • si la verdad es de gran agrado, pero esta chica no la interpreto muy bien, y la vercion que toco no es tan complicada, a mi agrado le falto... pero genial que la toque XD

  • The Folia is my theme favorite, of for live. The best theme of violin. Salutes

  • La folia es mi musica preferida de por vida, el mejor tema en violin.Saludos

  • Bravo!!! Very Good!!

  • great job. I'm working on this right now. not an easy piece.

  • your really good, i stopped around book 5 when college dominated me

  • I'm 14, and I still can't play as well as this...

    Then again, I'm a lazy-ass who doesn't practice.

  • SELAH? Is that you?

  • Yes.

  • La Follia not la Folia

    Follia = Folly

    Folia = Leaf in latin

  • actually NO, the song is "The Leaf" duh....its in EVERY suzuki book? do You actually think this song is "folly".??? wrong wrong my friend......

Esistono altre lingue oltre all'Inglese, ricordatelo.

  • great job!!! ur really good =)

  • Thanks, appreciate it.

  • why do i have to be cursed with these suckish hands that can't play the violin???

will you give me your hands for everything i own, including my sister?

  • Great job! How old are you? You look awfully young in this video, although I realize that it is a bit old...

  • is "La Follia" not "La Folia"!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • In Suzuki 6 it is spelled La Folia. So chill... Giving constructive criticism to the actual performance is one thing but it is crazy and derogatory to give unneeded comments about the titling! Consider removing your comment.

  • I only said that the original title is "la follia". Arcangelo Corelli was Italian. In Italian there is not the word "Folia," but "Follia" (madness).

  • No, It's La Folia, that's how it's written in my Suzuki book.

  • beautiful!! I really love this piece

  • Thank you very much.

  • wonderful. =D

You should all look up Emilie Autumn playing this she is wonderful as well

  • Thanks.

  • Good job on the double strings near the end! I have the most trouble with that part.

  • :D this is awesome.

  • Thank you.

  • At the end of the song you are out of tune

  • im playin this piece now...i think its too slow until the second page or the middle of the first page.

  • lol i nver liked this piece that much... this is until i heard u play it

  • Amazing job! I wish I had great bow control like you. NO FLAWS!

  • Thank you. You're very kind.

  • awsome job!

  • Thanks

  • Thankyou uv really inspired me. Amzing tone and I love the clarity of your playing and your amazing bow control.

  • Thanks.

  • Thanks. Very kind of you.

  • Thanks.

  • Very good, I loved the tone of your violin playing. Watch your intonation and don't squeak so much and that will be perfect.

  • awsome dude !

  • Thanks Dude!

  • うまいっ!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Q It has had much practice msm, I TOW studying this music for a presentation and q say it is more or less with more dedication and about 5 hours of study per day for dah it comes in 3 dias.sempre q I studied it solfa all the music and give a scale of 5 times for each sib is well tuned to the notes as scale.

  • awsome job

  • hey i played this :) grrrreat job

  • you have an amazing tone! beautiful job! what are you playing now?

  • Thanks. I'm playing Preludium and Allegro by Kreisler. How about you?

  • Oh I don't know that piece. Did you finish/continue with Suzuki?

  • out of tune

  • Not really, only in the 2nd position parts sometimes. But everything else was excellent...

  • how is it out of tune?

  • awesome mate! 5/5!

  • Thank you. You're very kind.

  • nice :) you must have practiced hard for four years... i never practice :( i need to do that once in a while... :/ how much do you practice?

  • this isnt the hard one. all of the difficult parts are taken out of this arrangement.

  • just wow. i can't play this song. everytime i practice i listen to this video because im too stingy to buy the suzuki cd. u are amazing! :)

  • Thanks.

  • @lindasy93 you can get a copy at torrentbox

  • YOU ARE FANTASTIC! this piece is really difficult and your tecnique is amazing. How long are you studying violin?

  • Thank you. At the time 4 years. Now, 7 years.

  • cool i'm way past that but this song is fun!!

  • god, i hate it when people comment like this.

  • so do i, ugh. no one cares if you're past this!

  • well sry i just remember this song it was the coolest song i played

  • This song is amezing I play it last year it's beautiful

  • you're really good!!!!!!!!! I'm playing this song too

  • I'm playing this song too! *******************

  • wow!

  • beautiful!

  • The chinrest isn't really supposed to be a chinrest-you hold it between the edge of your jaw and your shoulder. This position helps you get your bowing right on track.

  • I guess it's helpful for what you say, anyway, I think she could get hurt... but that's why the different technics are different and each one has it's own positive aspects...

  • @masterviolin659 i really dont care how they pout thier violins what is most comfartable to htem is okay. In sad siongs i kinda put pressure and happy songs i think of happy stuff and angels.

  • nice but need some more tunning on each note.

  • muuuuy bn super!!!!

  • la Folia is not of Corelli, Corelli made variations on this, and many people believe this, but la folia is a piece of unknown autor from Portugal of XVII Century, and Rachmaninov take as a Corelli composition, on Variation of a Corelli... Regards. Polo.

  • Indeed. The Vivaldi and Marin Marais Folias are very beautiful.

  • This isn't the Corelli Folia. It's the Suzuki Folia! I absolutely detest suzuki method for this reason. They change the music! This holds so little resemblance to the original it's disturbing! Most of the variations are completely rewritten! 90% of the double stops are gone! The truly virtousic passages have been removed! This Corelli masterpiece has been raped by suzuki method! It's disgusting!

  • You are an idiot for posting this suzuki arranged this piece like this to help students learn. Not for his own personal good or to "rape" this piece. If the person so chooses to do so they could learn the harder version but this piece is just to help learn.

  • There's a WORLD of other pieces of music that are appropriate for her skill level. What's the point of learning Corelli's "La Folia" variations if your not playing the music Corelli wrote?

You have to work up to the hard pieces. That's what drives you to become a better instrumentalist. That's how you learn patience and diligence. You shouldn't have these masterpieces served to you like tea and cookies.

  • What do you mean? That's like saying you shouldn't teach a young boy the Ode to Joy on the recorder because he isn't a spinto tenor.

You have to work your way up to the best pieces, but it's not like you're cheating by playing a simplified version, as long as it doesn't replace the more difficult one. Anything goes when you're just trying to teach a student. If this were a fully trained violinist, now that would be another story.

  • "What do you mean? That's like saying you shouldn't teach a young boy the Ode to Joy on the recorder because he isn't a spinto tenor."

There's nothing wrong with arrangements for different instruments. Composers did it all the time back in the day anyways. I didn't say there's anything wrong with arrangements. But taking a piece and tearing it apart and reassembling it so it is easier is something that I don't approve.

  • "You have to work your way up to the best pieces, but it's not like you're cheating by playing a simplified version, as long as it doesn't replace the more difficult one."

But IT DOES replace it. Don't you think its odd when you ask a twelve year-old what they are playing and they say they're working on Bach's violin concerto in A minor?

  • Again though, why simplify masterpieces when there are 400 hundred years of simpler pieces to play? That's another joy of learning an instrument: discovering new music.

  • Why is that odd? I was twelve when I learned Bach's violin concerto in A minor. And it was not a simplified version. You shouldn't judge someone just because of their age. An eight year old could be very talented and skilled at playing the violin, therefore he/she plays a difficult piece. Age does not matter, but skill level does.

  • Most twelve-year-olds don't learn the original version of the A minor concerto becuase it is musically difficult. Not technically. See, that's precisely the problem. That's why we are cursed to hear students play Vivaldi's L'estro Armonico concerti at half-speed.

Here, if you want to hear the difference, I have the entire piece split into two videos on my channel. Keep in mind though that the performer does do alot of improvised ornamentation. Nevertheless, it is really different.

  • I watched your videos and it sounds very nice. But, I don't see you get any camera time. Please don't get mad. I don't see a reason why talented kids get criticized for living up to their full potential.

  • There's nothing wrong with the kid. She plays nicely, and I'm sure she has a fine future ahead of her. That's not my point.

  • Just because someone is young doesn't mean that they aren't capable of being musical. I'm in an Youth Orchestra and the first violins (being one of them, I can speak for them) are plenty capable of playing musically challenging musical. Last year we played Mozart's Symphony in G minor and we (the first violins, as a section) sounded great. We played at full tempo too.

  • I never said that.
