There's "hard" socialism (USSR) and "soft" socialism (Western Europe), but essentially the goal is the same: central control of people's lives, ostensibly for their benefit. Nazism was a strain of socialism w. a hyper-nationalist/racist bent, but socialism all the same. Socialism doctrine may not de facto advocate murder, but it does advocate oppression, specifically of individual ambition. Prove me otherwise.

Where it becomes repressive is when there are holdouts who DON'T want to share their wealth. THEN it equals oppression and control. Norway may be that rare place where everyone is fine with chipping in their fair share, and the debt-to-GDP ratio (60%) is reasonable, but consider Norway the exception rather than the rule, considering W. Europe's condition.

I haven`t been to the US myself, but from what iv`e heard, there are mostly middle class people, pretty many poor people, and then a very few extremely rich people. And if you look back, USA is fine with dictatorships as long as they`re not Communists or in North-America.

As for our "poor" people, they're given subsidized housing, food stamps, and welfare (sadly). Hardly "poor", in other words. The US was never "fine" w. dictatorships, but we had the choice of bad/worse, we chose bad, namely during the Cold War. We have responsibilities that no other nation has.

To conflate socialism and communism with the mass murder and oppression of Nazi Germany and the USSR is flat out propaganda. There is nothing in socialist doctrine that advocates murder or oppression. Nazi evil was the implementation of anti-semitism, eugenics and fascism. Soviet evil was the removal of democracy in favour of totalitarianism coupled with a disregard for basic rights

There's "hard" socialism (USSR) and "soft" socialism (Western Europe), but essentially the goal is the same: central control of people's lives, ostensibly for their benefit. Nazism was a strain of socialism w. a hyper-nationalist/racist bent, but socialism all the same. Socialism doctrine may not de facto advocate murder, but it does advocate oppression, specifically of individual ambition. Prove me otherwise.

@AmbassadourOfChunk Socialism is fine so long as everyone (and I do mean EVERYONE) agrees, of their own volition, to chip in their share. Where it becomes repressive is when there are holdouts who DON'T want to share their wealth. THEN it equals oppression and control. Norway may be that rare place where everyone is fine with chipping in their fair share, and the debt-to-GDP ratio (60%) is reasonable, but consider Norway the exception rather than the rule, considering W. Europe's condition.

@spitfire71068 Yeah, there are definately some bad leaders in Europe, but as a rule, most of them are pretty free. Besides, socialism has less difference between rich and poor. I haven`t been to the US myself, but from what iv`e heard, there are mostly middle class people, pretty many poor people, and then a very few extremely rich people. And if you look back, USA is fine with dictatorships as long as they`re not Communists or in North-America.

@AmbassadourOfChunk We're not interested in narrowing the difference btw. rich/poor in America, namely because the American people seek to do it themselves through hard work and entrepreneurial spirit. As for our "poor" people, they're given subsidized housing, food stamps, and welfare (sadly). Hardly "poor", in other words. The US was never "fine" w. dictatorships, but we had the choice of bad/worse, we chose bad, namely during the Cold War. We have responsibilities that no other nation has.

But that doesn`t give you the right to nuke them. If it had been done to prevent a lenghty and terrible war, I would at least understand their chain of thoughts. But the Americans nuked two civilian japanese cities, to prevent the Commies from getting control over Japan. Just like Vietnam, and Cuba.

Rage is definitely one of those band that when you're young sound profound. Their lyrics. Their rebellious overtones. Combined with their amazing musical talent, they're definitely an amazing experience, when your an inexperienced, young, wanna be revolutionary. Then you get a dose of the real world and realize: While talented, these idiots are fucking CLUELESS about life and the real world. I stopped listening to RATM when I realized what hypocritical, anti-American garbage it was. :(

i know what you mean, i find it hard to retain information about politics whether it be because of all the jargon or just because it goes over my head.... and so much of it seems like unnecessary beaurocratic bullshit. i still try my hardest to keep informed though and read as much as i can without forcing it in because eventually i want to write a sort of political graphic novel tackling certain issues. it seems to sink in after a while, keep at it!

tom morello was questioned about this before in an interview where they asked him if he thought it was a contradiction that his band calimed they were anti-capitalist but had a million dollar record contract and the massive stadiums they had played at meant they were well and truly feeding capitalism.
