I think the comparison between Harry Reid and Trent Lott is flawed. Reid said something that is (sadly) true--blacks who have lighter skin and don't speak in an African-American dialect are more likely to be elected. What is offensive (to me) is that he used a politically incorrect term ("negro"). With Lott, he praised someone whose entire presidential career was based on the use of states' rights to resist racial integration. Even though he said it politely, the content was offensive.

You know, one of the reasons why Liberals are rolling over and playing dead on this Harry Reid issue, is because Conservatives are playing their typical finger-pointing game. Conservatives acknowledge the remarks by COMPLAINING about how they can't get away with saying what Reid said. They seem more, "upset" that they can't be publicly racist too. I don't condone what Reid said. To hell with him. He's not important to me. Harry Reid should hold himself to the same standard that he holds others (Trent Lott, specifically): resign. On the other hand, a refusal by Reid to resign would politically neuter him if he tries to scold Republicans for insensitive or flat out racist remarks in the future.
I consider Reid to be an ass-hat, so either course of action works for me.
It's not that conservatives are stupid enough to resign, it's that conservatives are the only politicians with enough integrity to resign. When are people ever going to understand that republican President Lincoln ended slavery, that the racist white governors during the civil rights movement were all democrats, and the ignorant politicians today are still liberal democrats.

Must add, I type fast so I make typos and accidentally miss words so I will type slower, that the Tea Party movement began by people unhappy with the policies and stances of people in both parties. The Tea Party is made up of people who are unhappy with the state of politics, the society and liberal indoctrination. It got steam when Bush and the congress in 2008 passed the bailout as people were upset. Then it was time to do something after the stimulus passed and people on both sides lied.

I have to also mention that we have no choice but to clean up the Republican party with real conservatives. I think the comparison between Harry Reid and Trent Lott is flawed. Reid said something that is (sadly) true--blacks who have lighter skin and don't speak in an African-American dialect are more likely to be elected. What is offensive (to me) is that he used a politically incorrect term ("negro"). With Lott, he praised someone whose entire presidential career was based on the use of states' rights to resist racial integration. Even though he said it politely, the content was offensive.

You know, one of the reasons why Liberals are rolling over and playing dead on this Harry Reid issue, is because Conservatives are playing their typical finger-pointing game. Notice how Republicans are not saying, "Shame on you Reid for saying that about our president!" It's more like, "It's a shame DEMOCRATS can say that, and WE can't." Reps are using this as a scapegoating tactic. "See, it's not us...it's THEM!" Goes to show they're not promoting much intelligence here either.

Conservatives acknowledge the remarks by COMPLAINING about how they can't get away with saying what Reid said. They seem more, "upset" that they can't be publicly racist too. I don't condone what Reid said. To hell with him. He's not important to me. My thing is, if the right is going to be outraged, be outraged at the REMARK, rather than being outraged at the consequences if they made the remarks.

Personally, I don't see it that way at all. I don't think that conservatives are complaining about how they "can't be more publicly racist".
Mainly because conservatives were the ones saying, "He's black? What? So... why does that matter?" Besides, even if conservatives WERE racist, strategically I don't see why ANYONE at this point would complain about not being able to get away with what Reid did. It would be more optimal to condemn him.

People should have enough common sense to know that all people are not the same. My point is, if people are going to be against racism; be against ALL of it, and not some of it. Both, the Left & Right should be outraged at the comments made about OUR leader, rather than the Right using the Left as scapegoats, and saying, "See, we're not racists..it's THEM!"

I'm aware of what some blacks do for acceptance. That's been the same since slavery. However, I was trying to make a totally different point. The Right is always pissing and moaning about why THEY can't get away with things that the Left can. Rush Limbaugh called the Raiders, "Bloods & Crips," and the Right made excuses for him. Harry Reid should hold himself to the same standard that he holds others (Trent Lott, specifically): resign. On the other hand, a refusal by Reid to resign would politically neuter him if he tries to scold Republicans for insensitive or flat out racist remarks in the future.
I consider Reid to be an ass-hat, so either course of action works for me.
