@Greenclw nope. if you do any crime with the cowl on just go somewhere where the guards cant see you and take it off, then yield to the guard. you will have no bounty. its good for the dark brotherhood quest. its also very good for caves where there aren't guards anyway

it is possible to get 2 gray cowls of nocturnal,

cowl #1: get a bound helmet on yourself, damage it, repair it, drop it after you repair it, wait until the spell runs out then pick it back up, reverse pickpocket it to gray fox on turn a blind eye, do the quest, when you get back he will wear the bound helm, this is hard, you can then pickpocket the gray cowl (this one has the stolen flag)

cowl #2: finish thieves guild (this one does not have the stolen flag)

He has a permanent bounty. BUT. If you commit a crime as the gray fox the bounty goes to the mask, not your character. Take it off and bounty goes away.

just finished the questline myself. the cowl has to be the best reward in the game. also, it is recommended that you DON'T steal the cowl as IF you get arrested and go to jail when you aren't wearing it it will be completely removed from your inventory as it has the 'stolen' flag. but yeah it pretty much allows you to do all the infamy boosting crap with it on, so you don't have to do the whole pilgrimage thing all over. be tactical. :P

I enjoyed the Dark Brotherhood a bit more than the thieves guild, however, the cowl sure is fun getting a gigantic bounty with, and when you take it off your bount goes away with it :D

I agree the thieves guild was my favorite part of oblivion, why I liked the story for it more than I liked the main storyline.

Oblivions was great fun but suffered from major balance issues, like I can make a heavy plate wearing archer or uber critting rogue that wears heavy plate, what's up with that?

@stxlandil Because it's non-linear, which is a plus in my book. I mean, it would be physically possible to be a heavily armoured rogue, but it probably wouldn't be effective. Same in Oblivion. You'll be slower but it'll be possible.

uuuh, no, if you played you would know that the cowl is enchanted so that nobody knows who you are when you wear it, taking it off removes that enchant and people forget about you being the gray fox. listen to the actual gray fox talk when he gives you the thing.

if you do that, it will possible to wear the gray cowl whenever you want :D! but don't talk to ANY guards after you have paid her! if you do that, they will try to arrest you :/ but normally they would have ran after you but now they don't =D!

i did it today and its so awesome to wear the cowl without the guards ruin the fun!

and if you don't have enough gold, use the gold glitch or mod.

you get to the shivering isles by looking for a place on your map in the middle of the sea called A Strange Door. for knights of the nine go to anvil and look for somone named The Prophet

Okay, Knights of the Nine quest giver is a Prophet in Anvil. Simply fast travel there, talk to someone, and it should have an option to talk about the Anvil Church Attack. Click that, and they tell you to talk to the prophet. It should give you the quest. The door to the Shivering Isles is located in the waters west of Bravil, like directly in the center.

The gray fox? You gain leadership by beating the quest line. I mean murder isn't exactly very well recieved in the theives guild so I doubt you do but I have only done the first quest in the chain so who knows

Try waiting in the city that the Gray Fox is not in. For example, when waiting for the last quest, I waited 3 days in The Elven Gardens then switched to Market District, and Amusei came straight away, after aboProxy-Connection: keep-alive
