i cot 4 and non of them hurt me. i pet them all the time and i am still not hurt. i guess they like me. but they hate my teacher because his hand is swelled and he said that it is hurting reel bad.
I searched bolivia bug on Wikipedia and got Megalopyge opercularis: has numerous common names, including southern flannel moth, pussy moth, puss caterpillar, tree asp, and, asp caterpillar
These are in Texas. My dad told me about these. Their body is covered with acid and their feet. If they walk on you it would leave small red foot prints that burn like hell. Best leave them alone. I think it's called a w-something....lol.
It's a puss caterpillar! It's the most poisonous caterpillar found mostly in the southern and eastern parts of the United States. Its poison is hidden in hollow spines among its hairs. It lives in tree tops and uses the poison to deter birds. We had a warning go out after a bad hurricane knocked down a bunch of trees, these guys were everywhere and kids kept messing with them and ending up in the emergency room. So the moral of this story is DON'T touch something if you don't know what it is!
I witnessed several people touched these either out of curiosity or by accident. The reaction afterwards (screaming running around like a mad man exct.) convinced me to avoid a all costs. In the area of Peru that I was we called them cuaterbyuccas (not sure how to spell it) quarter-by-yucca. I think because they were most often found on yucca plants.
@XxKevorkxX It has poison in its hairs. If you touch it, it releases it and it flows to your brain, killing the tissue. Let's just say : A LOT of pain.
The reactions are sometimes localized to the affected area but are often very severe, radiating up a limb and causing burning, swelling, nausea, headache, abdominal distress, rashes, blisters, and sometimes chest pain, numbness, or difficulty breathing
I found one of these little guys in germany. I played with it for about half an hour, and suddenly, I was breaking out in hives all over the place. Don't pick them up.
Ironically, the resemblance of the larvae to soft, colorful cotton balls encourages people to pick them up and pet them.
