this song always, always, ALWAYS reminds me of the period in the late 70s and early 80s when I'd drag my hungover butt home at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning still wearing my Saturday nightclub clothes. Those times were almost too good to be true.....
I keep asking: Is there anything nicer, hotter, better than late 70's pop music?
Never before or after pop music sounded more stylish and elegant than in the late 70's. Thelma Houston and her disco hit still makes my best Saturday nights shine on my Sunday Morning face....33 years later!
I had a friend who was the DJ at the club I hung out in. He knew I loved this song and always played it as the last song of his set on saturday night....
OMG.., this is a Saint Disco classic on the early hours of Sundays...,a favorite of my friend Frank Megaro & Joey Bulfaro.., hoope they play this at TRIPPIN ON THE MOON next month....
Thanks so much. I used to love to watch the female impersonator Ella Fitzgerald perform this at Ziegfelds in Washington, DC. It bring back many fond memories.
THANKS FOR RESPONDING; yeah the 79 version Ive only heard a couple of times; and ITS BEAUTIFUL (Its so much better than this version). THANKS for your sharing anyway; HOPE YOU or ANYBODY ELSE can find it!
Awesome Song. Thanks for adding it.Absolutely love it. Wasn't even around when it came out....lol :). Just heard it in a club a week ago. I agree this version does sound a bit different. If you love this song. You might want to check out a track called "Silly Love Songs" by a New Zealand group called "Ardijah". There's a live version on youtube, but I wish someone could add the CD one.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this! I asked someone (a Thelma Video Poster) if they could post this one. I havent heard this song but a few times total; and I love it. This is excellent QUALITY btw. Is this the 79' version? I seem to recall less KEYBOARD and more disco sound, though I VERY WELL may be wrong. Anyway, thank you, regardless. DOES ANYONE HAVE THE 12 INCH DISCO VERSION of this one (GOOD QUALITY)?

Sad but true that Thelma can sing Whitney (neice) under the table!

i noticed that many of the 90's house tunes are based off of 80's disco. t-empo made a good house mix of this.

You ain't never lied! They are singing their heads off on this album. Thelma's one take of SURELY GOD IS ABLE is worth the purchase alone.

I remember seeing "Ella" at the gay club "Lochlan's Tavern" in Richmond, VA way back in 1980! What a show!

morning music at "the saint", is this a remix? it sounds a little different than i remember
discoguy79 3 years ago 3
I think it was slowed down a lot when played as the transition song, back in the day. :)

was it? that could be

It's not the 12'. I think there's a few versions. Beautiful tho huh?

i love the song, but i like the original untouched better
discoguy79 3 years ago 3
Absolutely. Sadly it never got airplay.
GymProv 3 years ago 4
never got airplay? It was the song that prevented Houston from being a one hit wonder, it made the top pop 40 (but didn't get very high)
fanofprotopic 2 years ago
True, but they STILL call her a one hit wonder. LOL

Great song, but it always sounded like a blatant ripoff of Teddy Pendergrass's "I DOn't Love Anymore"? Is it by the same songwriters?
