  • Man the music i so god damn beautifull!I will downloaded emediatly!

Also the Ubuntu...i run 10.04 Netbook edition on Asus Eee PC,it is great!!!

  • Ah why cant you download UNR any more!

  • @SmallxTaylor you can get Ubuntu 10.10 UNE (Ubuntu Netbook Edition) or wait for 11.04 later this month which will have a single Ubuntu Desktop version for desktop/laptop/netbook computers.

  • @andypiperuk cheers mate got it now, had a lot of problems tho, but not hard to install :D

  • can i run it on a desktop pc?

  • @RadiiFx Deohends on your PC really. If not you can use Kubuntu, or any other distros out there.

  • does unbutu support any windows applications? I'd rather use office '07 than open office.

  • @slugmax you could run Office 07 under Wine on Ubuntu, but Open Office is extremely good and fully compatible.

  • @andypiperuk Thanks man!

  • @andypiperuk or use google docs :)

  • It's not bad but getting used to multiple Desktops resolves a lot of issues with the windowing.

  • ...and people still use Windows???

  • would this be touch sensitive to my tablet?

  • i have the new ubuntu 10.04 netbook remix on my channel

  • Does it work with most Netbook wireless drivers. I am buying the Asus eee PC soon.

  • check out my Linux channel people! nothing but Linux and Opensource Goodness! :)

  • what program was used to create this video?

  • @EdwardCullensMayo recorded using gtk-recordmydesktop and then edited on a Mac using ScreenFlow.

  • @andypiperuk i knew it looked too pretty too be foss :(

  • @EdwardCullensMayo pitivi and Openshot are pretty good these days - remember I made this nearly a year ago.

  • @supadupa2525 what kind of wifi authentication are you using? did you enter the details?

  • What I am worried about is losing anything that I have saved on Windows [ie: passwords to sites that I am a member off and such like. Does this operating system keep those passwords, or are they deleted? If they are deleted, then I will have to stick wih Windows Starter Pack on my netbook.

  • @wayneleon100 you can boot Ubuntu from a USB stick and leave Windows in place so nothing is deleted. If you install Ubuntu instead of Windows then everything will be deleted. I use a password keystore program called KeepassX which lets me save passwords to an encrypted file and move it between machines and operating systems.

  • @andypiperuk What are your specs?

  • @wayneleon100 You can dual boot so you choose at start-up what OS you want to run, I've done this and its suprisingly easy to set up...

  • @wayneleon100 if you're using Firefox on Windows, you can just back up your profile folder, clean up the hard disk, install Ubuntu, and use that profile again. Everything will be saved.

  • so what are the differences between this and jolicloud?

  • @WIIRULESMAN Jolicloud is similar but it uses a lot of web-based services, so you get icons direct for GMail and stuff on the desktop.

  • @andypiperuk Jolicloud is also quite ugly, imo.

  • I want to install 10.04 netbook remix on my netbook but the issue of mine is if i ever want to restore back to windows xp then what would i do? my netbook (along with most) doesn't have a disk drive so how would you restore?

  • @JeremyLeroy96 why don't you try the bootable USB stick version, try it out, and see what you think? then you don't have to remove Windows at all.

  • @andypiperuk i'm aware of that i did and i was not happy with flash video performance so i am gonna have to stick with slow windows, maybe get an iPad or something

  • hi, I am wondering if you can help me with this little problem,

i just bought an acer aspire one D150, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard disk, and i want to switch linpus for ubuntu, but i dont know if I Should install Ubuntu desktop or ubuntu Netbook.

Do yo think that im going to hace any problem with this?

    Thanks in regards

  • @edct40 it's really up to you. I should not think you would have any issues with either version. The latest (10.04) Ubuntu Netbook Edition looks similar to this and has nice big icons and a single app interface good for a smaller screen. You could run the ful desktop edition too, it's a matter of preference.

  • @edct40 I would recommend the netbook edition, because it fits perfectly for these acer models, it has all programs & features in a very good UI, i used it at my aspire one a150

  • I found the netbook remix really frustrating. Far better to use desktop version (Lucid 10.04), which is excellent on my aspire one.

  • but seriously which is better though?. I have windows seven starter blah i dont like it. It's missing so many functions I feel so limited everytime i log on to the netbook. I dont feel like buying windows 7 home premium. I'd rather put Ubuntu 9.10 or the netbook remix!!!!.

  • I like this way better than the Ubuntu Netbook Moblin Remix (that's a mouthful, but I -like THAT better than regular moblin) and 9.10 is definitely 100x better than 9.04, but I like 10.04 (just released) Even better... although it is similar. Hoping to get a netbook -> tablet convert for $500 and run this...

And steam for Mac? lol, imagine steam linux on something low-CPU/RAM intensive like UNR or even DSL-n ? OpenGL and *Nix base... could be coming!!!

  • i installed this yesterday on my hp mini 110 that came with a shity as hell linux os it runs alot better and i literally take it with me every place i go light and portable with a sexy ass os when i open it up only problem is i had to wright code for the wireless driver which made me so effin angry!!!!

  • There really is no need for windows on small devices.

Home pc's I still think it's better linux has problems with wireless networking in the home, and still has a slightly complex software/driver installation system for the average person. In small devices it's short comings in gaming don't really matter.

  • Ive installed both Karmic (9.1) and Lucid (10) on my acer aspire one A150, and they work great out of the box, apart from jerky video in iplayer and youtube. When I had XP installed, iplayer and youtube worked perfectly. This is a big problem because my main use for my netbook is to watch iplayer and youtube. The jerky video in Flash seems to be a known problem in Ubuntu , but no one seems to have a fix, this is a real shame.

  • Entpacken Sie das Uran aus den instabilen Isotopen von Verfahren mit einem Plutonium-238 Schwamm.

  • This version looks better than the version of desktop.

  • how to make me look like my desktop what we need?please help me

  • @mikizla88 Yes, that is very simple, just learn english!

  • j have this version 9.10... how to make me look like my desktop what we need??PLease help

  • @mikizla88 How about typeing so people can understand you first. :/

  • I love Ubuntu 10.04 already :D I installed the Netbook Remix on my netbook, and I hightly customized it. I don't use that standard Netbook menu, for instance. I like the Dust theme, which comes preinstalled with Ubuntu :)

I've been using Ubuntu for about a year now, and I keep loving it more :D I tried Windows 7, but it obviously didn't fill my needs.

  • @Jarige2 i have Win7 for my High performance PC for gaming and other stuff and it's the best of windows's OS.......... but on my Eee Asus netbook , ubuntu remix RULES !!!!! and the 10.04 is awesome!!!

  • i have this installed on my desktop and i like it just as much as windows 7 home premium :D its better than normal ubuntu and i think its even better than linux ultimate edition. (very edited ubuntu)

  • Windows 7 starter is really crippled. I'd probably install Ubuntu. But, only if it fits your needs. Read more about Ubuntu and decided if you like it.

  • the song in the background is very good. Who sings the song? Best regards Holger

  • Its amazing that anyone still uses windows.

Yesterday I was trying to install sim city 4 on a friends vista box, didn't work.

Ubuntu + wine comes to the rescue. It actually runs faster on ubuntu 9.10 too.

    GNU FTW

  • @AtheismandSkepticism I am amazed that people still play sim city!

  • I've installed this on my netbook... and I've got to say it's pretty great to use. Fast boot and response times, slick, space-saving and intuitive interface.

Coming from a windows background it was very intimidating though, depending on what beastie to buy, you can't expect it to work full-featured "out of the box", and you'll need to expect some trouble-shooting and habituation. The Ubuntu community is pretty solid in terms of community support though.

  • What program is this that puts large icons on the desktop? I've been looking for something like that for my netbook, like icons on a smartphone.

  • I installed this on my Acer Aspire One 532h, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. The only downsides were that it didn't support the multigesture trackpad and it seemed to drain the battery faster than Windows 7 Starter (I installed it through Wubi, so that might have had an effect on the battery. I'm not sure, though).

  • Dose anyone knows if its working on HP Pavilion Ze3751us?

  • Nice music.

  • kind of reminds me of android

  • Ubuntu NBR 9.10 is very very good... I used it right up until my netbook broke. lol... They finally found a way to make Gnome Look attractive with the nbr

  • haha 1:24 now i know your password^^, it's

    ●●●●●●●●●●

cool netbook remix i hope that it runs on my old asus eeepc ...

  • i am sure i run it just needs 256 mb ram and a 500 mhz cpu

  • yes i've installed it and it works well, but i've problems with the 4gb ssd, it's "used outside of the parameters" ...

  • @l2804l it works on the eee pc fine!! I have this version on my eeepc 701 sd!! it works perfectly, much better than the windows it usually comes with.

  • @Pressurecorpus14l yes i know ... tested it out but i have the first one (with 4gb) ... it was a present. i hope they'll make such a remix for the new ubuntu, too. greetings from germany

  • @l2804l I hope so too!

    And greetings from America!

  • nice job

  • What is the font style you use on the slide at 0:03 ?

  • @EasyLinux I think it's the same font that is used for the new lucid splash screen. I could be wrong though

  • I am seriously debating whether to to replace Windows 7 Starter on my netbook with this. Comments please?

  • You could give it a try first - have a go with a Live USB and boot into UNR first to try it out and decide if you like it before installing. It works great for me.

  • If you use Windows related programs, you might be better with Windows. But if you just surf the web, use Word processors, etc. Ubuntu is perfect because it runs better then windows.

  • I have a laptop with Windows 7 to do what I need. My netbook is simply for browsing, I am going to somehow create a USB live copy and try it.

  • @wackywelshlad windows 7 starter sucks, i'd change to ubuntu.

  • @wackywelshlad if your just a web, email user and prefer a great clean looking operating system then this is for you. If you have to have the Windows applications then you should switch to Windows XP. Windows Starter is not great, Ubuntu has many great free stuff such as word editors and it looks cooler, it's your choice

  • i think it's better to install this side by side with windows 7 rather than replacing windows 7 with this

  • @wackywelshlad I bought a Samsung n130 in December 2009 that came with the starter edition. It pissed me off on the first day, so so so slow... on a fresh installation !!! Think about the slowness a year or two years later, just ridiculous. I installed Ubuntu and my netbook became a war-machine lol. Even with compiz to the max and multi-tasking. So try it, you'll like it.

  • @wackywelshlad you can have them both

  • man can u help me getting this desktop? if so please.. :p

  • if u have a mac, stick with mac, because even they are both linux, so really, just use the ones that u are used to using. plus u PAYED for a good mac.... why switch to linux, plus mac is easier to use, it's made for dumb people in the first place, i mean my mom can use a mac when she first touch a computer... and she cant even use windows 98... so yah.... and linux is much harder to use than windows that's for sure, so if ur smart enough, then switch, if not, stay. really lol.

  • @megazeroxuxm

Has anyone ever been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

  • Can you write that again......maybe in English if possible.

  • @megazeroxuxm

Don't know about mac but i think the things most people do on their pc is easier on linux. The only problem is that people find it hard to switch on a different way of thinking and doing things. And if you try to do stuff in the terminal as a beginner it is easy to do things you don't want and don't know how to undo.

  • @megazeroxuxm yeah seriously

  • What have they done to make this faster than regular ubuntu running gnome. The UI is different, but what makes it faster?

  • He is not faster, the video was made faster... It's the same OS just the UI is changed and it works at the same speed.

  • dam I just love Ubuntu too bad I havent used it in the longest now I use my Mac but I rather not install ubuntu on it

  • Install it in a virtual machine, VirtualBox is free

  • Just use bootcamp to make a seperate partition. Easy as pie! :D

    FK

  • Hey man, what did you use for the screen recorder?

  • Looks great, I think such a kind of interface would be also nicer on a "normal" desktop pc than the current mess of overlapping windows.

  • Just install netbook remix on ur pc. :) it will work just fine and will be WAY faster than windows/mac os x or even normal ubuntu. :)

  • Who sings that song ?? I need the cool song to go with my Ubunto

  • Which is this song ??

  • As We Travel by Team 9

  • can you install the desktop version on a netbook?

  • yes just install it but i would recommend the netbook remix as it is optimised for a netbook.

  • is there a way to install the netbook version on a desktop?

  • yes, you just download it and install it :-) no restrictions.

  • @jameswx09 im not exactly sure this was after all made for computers that run intel aton, so it might run on other computers with intel proccessors, i tried running moblin once on my amd 64 athlon x2 but it woulden't function properly

  • It is actually free on the ubuntu website, you don't have to go where you suggested!

  • Windows is best for nettops and desktops. Linux is best for netbooks and laptops. Ubuntu runs smooth on my new laptop, Windows 7 on the other hand...

  • @jameswx09 Windows for pc games , linux everything else :P

  • I like the interface. I guess it suits almost perfectly for netbooks (as i consider kubuntu to be a great choice for PCs). As soon as i get netbook, i get ubuntu netbook remix! :)

  • Moblin 2.1 looks better..and wanted to make sure a stable version. but as I have not even a netbook, I care ...

  • Thanks Andy Piper for uploading a video of this. I love how you go through everything and just searching up Karmic Koala on google, doing basically what you generally do on a comp. Other people on YT seem to have trouble doing that.

  • thats pretty pimp

  • what is this song :) i like it

  • @W12359ful yes I have Compiz running here.

  • Wow. I've never used UNR but it looks really nice. Is that gnome-shell?

  • @LTS1287 it's not gnome-shell, it's a specific netbook interface for UNR based on the Clutter engine.

  • how do you do that?

  • well i dont know how it can be the derfault theme when i have UNR as well. under ur display what is the theme name...?

  • Dust I think. Don't have my netbook with me right now.

  • I use Windows 7 on y hardcore AMD laptop and Linux Ubuntu on netbook with Intel

To tell the truth I rune Windows 7 in it but Intel is the worst shit I've been on i almost hit the netbook to death of pain.

  • i think UNR is lighter than the normal version

  • what theme are u using?

  • dude, this is the default UNR theme!

  • man, that netbook remix looks cooler than the normal version! At least, I think so.

  • @murderslastcrow

hmm then I guess i'll try ot install it on my old computer....well not that old.

  • What happens if you run this on a desktop Pc?

  • your pc shrinks into a netbook

  • lol

  • dude, i thin UNR is optimized for netbook! i tried it first in my dual core and it runs slower than in the netbook!

The same happened with moblin, another os fited to netbooks!

  • i have an acer aspire one 110, that came originally with li'm limpus. I moved last week to UNR and i'm amazed. finally i getting th full power of my netbook. it takes more time to boot than limpus, but i think it is more light and fast, running applications. I think battery lasts longer.

  • I'm dual booting Ubuntu 9.10 desktop on my Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook. I've been dual booting with Ubuntu since 8.04. Ubuntu Desktop seems to get better with every release, except for graphic display, when it comes to ATI Radeon cards. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X300 64MB in my Inspiron which ubuntu can't find a proprietary driver for. The driver off of the ATI site doesn't work. The driver found in Ubuntu's Software Centre doesn't work either. Has anyone found a solution???

  • Sorry, ATI dropped support for that card after last march. That, and the old driver doesn't work with Ubuntu 9.10. Pretty much you are forced to use the open source drivers. The open source drivers allow for 3D acceleration on the X300, so you are not completely out in the cold.

  • I came to the same conclusion after reading a lot of forums, about ATI cards, on Ubunbu Forums. I was hoping you had another solution. The only thing with open source drivers is that they require you to install higher unstable kernels. For instance, I'm using 2.6.31-16 and thats the most recent stable release. However, I read that to use an open source driver I would need to download and install 2.6.32... I guess my question is do open source drivers work on 2.6.31-16?

  • It does work with the current kernel, I have it working with the current kernel. I think they mean for the newer cards. Seeing as you have an older card, an X300, you should be just fine. I will say though, if you are looking into any Ubuntu alternatives, Mandriva handles the X300 like a dream.

  • Thanks for the info. I'll try a live CD of Mandriva. I hope it's just as good as Ubuntu, or better and it work with my X300. I've gotten so used to Ubuntu. I'll try looking for other solutions.

  • hey guys how does flash work on this? only thing stopping me from erasing windows 7 or at least dualbooting

  • works fine for me.

  • can anyone tell me which theme is this?

  • Dust I think.

  • what editing app is that

  • what do you mean, what editing app did I use to make the video? I made it on a Mac with ScreenFlow but I recorded the screencast on Linux.

  • Only thing that I have to critisize in this version is that there is no that 'classic' Windows XP style desktop option anymore. Though it's nothing big but still it may be an issue to someone.

  • that would defeat the object of the customised UI though.

  • Did the speed of the video get sped up or were you just flying through to show the speed of the operating system?

  • this is all normal speed.

  • nice... pretty fast... I will try it soon!

  • about to install on a UMPC with a C2D...very nice looking UI but I wish Ubuntu would get rid of the brown theme :S

  • You can change the teame if you want, there are neutrals and totally gary ones too. I myself like the brown =)

  • on aspire one with ubuntu, since 8.... still crash on wireless connection... how do you get the solution for this?...

  • it works for me, maybe it's your wireless setup on the network?

  • can you un-maximize window?

  • Yes, but by default they open maximised - actually this works well on this size of screen.

  • yes, I understand, but sometimes it's good to have this choice, when you eg. want IM over web browser window... looks like viable option for netbooks! thanx for reply

  • yes, the IM (Empathy/Pidgin) would float over a browser window, for example. I do that a lot.

  • UBUNTU ROCKS!!!

  • Can you download torrents on the Netbook Remix?

  • Yes, you can install any torrent client that works on regular Linux / Ubuntu, such as Transmission.

  • Never mind i found it. man i like this music.

  • Nice video!!!!! whats this song called????? i like it a lot.

  • How did you get the battery indicator? I couldn't make it ... don't know how. After installed, the suspend/hibernate didn't work while having an SD card inserted nor the battery meter besides the clock in the upper panel :(

  • The battery indicator is just a panel applet - gnome-power-applet

Suspend works fine for me, I am using the SSD (not hard disk) version so I don't use hibernate.

  • Thanks. I don't know why, but when reinstalling the whole NBR, solved the problem.

  • Man i had installed Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 AMD64 , but the Desktop its very Simple , you know what software , allow you to use Applications Access on the Desktop , and to see Applications tab style in the Panel ???

    Its gnome-shell ??? or something ???

  • Are you using the Netbook Remix?

  • Jejeje i installed yesterday , i love this desktop :D , is very practice ^^

  • I'm going to get this on my new Netbook :D

  • so how much do you need to know about computers to properly use this, I know most of the basics for html and installed my computer from nothing, and for the most part can solve problems with it? Are there any disadvantages behind ubuntu?

  • other than a fairly steep learning curve, then no, I can't really see any disadvantages. It's quite differently structured than windows, but you're not limited in any way in terms of functionality.

  • disadvantages...

    Adobe doesn't make Linux software...

Autodesk make Maya3d for linux ... but not 3dsMax

you can get Blender but it's not as good or easy to use.

File exported from flash as EXE do not run... AIR apps don't run

This mean no easy way to make fun stuff for Linux unless your a hard core programmer... :(

WINE doesn't support all software... VirtualBox work... but doesn't support high end 3d... :(

No software equivalent for Flash CS4... :(

only thing it has is Pencil 0.4.4b ... :(

  • Adobe Air runs just fine on my Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I use it for Tweetdeck.

  • Comment removed

  • O.K. well I got Adobe Air working...

Not sure why it didn't work the first time I tried...

but my Genius Pen Tablet drivers still will not work.

  • i currently have it installed on my acer aspire one AOA150 it is much better than linpus lite. its really fast and a lot more reliable and relatively easy to install if you use unetbootin.

  • I agree you, i also installed it on my AOA150 :) Its very reliable and has anything you need for your netbook, also codecs for non-free formats are installed very fast with the software center. and very fast though.

  • UNR looks pretty cool. I might try to push my friend using XP on his netbook to try the Remix.

  • @itsjareds i have install on my aao AOA150 its really fast. much better than linpus lite. i haven compared it to xp yet

  • what is name of applet on 0:32 with which you are switching between programs?

i have ubuntu 9.10 desktop version and i want have this switcher too..

  • alt tab

  • did you install it or just run it on pendrive??

  • Great demo!

  • I loved the song !

    What's the title , author ?

    Great vid ;)
