I really like those songs that the band played. What were they? the first two songs sounded like "Pipers Cave" and "The Earl of Mansfield", the last one I couldn't figure out.
sort of. The band director for Northwest Junior Pipe Band is also the piping instructor at Shorecrest High School, but this band is an independent non-profit organization with no big sponsors or organizations. :) But, several of the kids from NWJPB also play with the Shorecrest band.
NWJPB brought back a 5th place plaque from the Worlds, as well as winning first at Perth and Crieff in Grade 4. At Perth, they also won against this years Grade 4B 4 time champions (World, European, Cowal, and British).
good luck first of all im with scotia we got 3rd last year in the same event so hope you bring a trophy back to the US, but you might be the only novice junior band but St. Thomas wil be there too
It's not uncommon. There aren't a lot of visual differences in pipe band competitions, this is something you don't see many bands in this grade doing, but I think it's really cool looking.
@16andrew90 It also happens to be common in bands without a drum major as the drummers and pipers as well are taking their time from the bass drummer.
Actually they're 18 and under, we have 4 seniors graduating this year. The most amazing thing to me is that a bunch of them have been playing for two years or less, including the 9 year old drummer.
How wonderful, to find this , its great to see .... They all did well !!!

St Thomas isn't listed on the RSPBA site this year, there's a draw posted on the calendar page. Great job last year!

It IS rather uncommon, even in upper grades, bass drummers tend to march at an angle, not fully sideways. I personally think it looks daft.
