I heard when he was a kid his father used to have him fight other kids in the neighborhood to entertain the adults and they would give him change. If thats true no wonder he so tough.
i met him in birmingham england at a autograph signing called memorabillia!!! if you can get to england then come along, ive met ken norton, joe frazier, sugar ray leanord, nigel benn. ive got all there autographs!!! check their website!!!
just type memorabillia nec into google and it will come up at the top. should be some good guests, i heard a rumour that jake la motta might be back and roberto duran might be there!! dont know for sure though so check before you come up!!
the girl who was 14 was in his over 21 club so he thought she was older, he prob thought she was 18 or somthing. Im not saying that its right but i doubt he done it on purpose.
@WBCHWCHAMPION Yeah but that was makes him seem less than tough now. HE's in his 80's with more vitality than most senior citizens. Jake LaMotta will always be the man
@POTATER1228 Thats for sure. You should see George Chuvalo! He's up in there in age as well but man oh man he still looks as though you would need a platoon to bring him down. He'll be at my next fight. He still loves the game. LaMotta had real talent combined with his tenacity he was a nightmare in the ring. Too bad he let his personal demons get the best of him. Yeah but he still looks good.
Great song choice, sums up La Motta perfectly. He was an incredibly self destructive person, some say that was the reason for his stance of always leaning forward, sticking his head out, tempting the opponent to lash out, as if he didnt mind getting hurt in order to counter attack.
You cant be tougher than Jake. He was insane the way he walked through fighters.
LaMotta also had more ringcraft than people think. He had skills, knew how to bait guys to come to him by playing possum. They he would come out of a crouch with 8 to 10 lefthooks no exageration.
Ray Robinson said Jake was the only guy he ever got arm weary punching at. Then Jakes eyes light up and he whips a hook to Ray body that brought tears to Robinson`s eyes.
he did get knocked down once in his carrer right near the end of it, when he moved up to light heavy, and many fighters have not been knocked down befroe such as the candian boxer who fought ali and foreman and friazier i can not remember his name probely but he thought some of the hardest fighters around and never got put down.
yeah,im glad someone who knows what he is talkin about agrees with me that Jake was knocked down in th lightheavyweight division.....u no idea th ammount of arguements i,ve had about this !
that's Fullmer. Fullmer liked to throw a kind of hard right to the body that left his chin exposed. Ray ate a couple to bate him then SMACK. To be fair to fullmer, he beat ray again after that and also beat basilio.
oh yh i knew it was one of them they all remind me of eachother. It was one hell of a punch which he hit him with. In most cases Basilio was actaully better than lamotta but lamotta is alot more famous, that must eat away at basilio.
Not the greatest fighter of all time, not by far. Not the greatest man of all time, not by far. But my favoriete fighter of all time, no doubt about it.
yh he was a "rotten human being". Watch the raging bull film about his life and u see some of what he was like. He was a animal in the ring and out of it.I guess tht made him great.
great video. i love the two pictures that were taken after his TKO loss to robinson that are signed and he wrote on them "Ray, i never went down". classic.
I have just finished reading the book. The book is just as powerfull as the movie. Lamotta is still alive and in his right mind. That shows how strong a human been that man is taking in account the number of fights he delivered and the kind of punishments he took over the years. He didn't live as a monk neither. An all time great fighter and a remarkable champion.
jake is a great man. great fighter. he admits to throwing one fight for the mafia. he was only put down once and that was by a nobody. he was also the first man to put sugar ray down. i dont credit sugar ray with all his wins because the mafia told him where and when to fight
I wish Jake was fighting today, loved his style. What I liked best about him was he didn't fold up against opponents, fought everybody, never quit... Great tribute!
Great style and awesome boxer my favorite of all time even though he was a bad man outside the ring an unrelenting fighter, no more boxers like that today.
Amazing video, good pic of song, he was one the greatest and most unrecognized fighters in a time filled with joe louis and sugar ray robinson, he lost to sugar ray 5 times, but he was the only fighter to defeat sugar ray in his prime
He as so great..even when he had to fight in the same time as the greatest sugar ray, he managed to be remembered as one of the greatest and most though fighters ever...
