No, QANTAS has never lost a JET to an accident. The last QANTAS plane lost in an accident was a Super Constellation at Mauritiius in the 1950s. Fortunately everyone got off before the Connie burned to destruction.
@mastouris69 there are countless airbus accidents and crashes. google it. im surprised youd say that, considering their history. not unless you were just being sarcastic. even the "now defunct" Concorde crashed, that was the most expensive commercial plane.
The plane is not "losing altitude", it's making an emergency landing. And I don't think there was an "explosive decompression" in the passenger cabin.
"qantas" has also the best food and best service. can people just fuck off? and please stop commenting on my posts unless youve actually been on the fucking plane.
@abcd12345 Ive flown Quantas, and got to agree, pretty good service and food, considering I am in a pressurised tin 6 miles high flying at 600mph, cant believe people moan about food. What people also have to remember about flying is that owing to the dry atmosphere, human taste is reduced, and other senses are stronger like sound. One gripe when I flew in 2006, I had a plastic knife, yet a metal fork! Surely if I was a mad terrorist a metal fork, can be equally damaging as a metal knife?
@stubarlow11111 u know come to think of it thats probably only if youre traveling around the u.s. or to the u.s. cause tsa is only for u.s. if i am not mistaken.
airpressure inside of the cabin is (artificial) kept on the airpressure of altitude of 2 kilometers. "so always use your chewing gum". I dont know you get that gum for free when you buy your ticket because i never did. So on 10 kilometers altitude the fuselage has to deal with 8 kilometers overpressure. That is why the cigarform is the best for the cabin. An eggform should be the best. Big airplanes like Boeing Jumbojets and Airbus A 300? with lots of stairs and floors do their best. (-:
@68buickwildcat so that makes you the other reason people should be afraid to fly. knowing that the last few seconds you have on this earth will be utterly drowned out by the screaming moron next to you.
@jlrhind94 "Quantas" never crashed as there's no such airline. No "u" in the name; QANTAS is the correct spelling and stands for Queensland And Northern Territory Air Service.
@gp4nut No, they are applauding because they just stopped them from dying in an explosion.
Plus, people clap for singers/dancers etc. when they are performing, so what's wrong with clapping for pilots?
Even so, clapping doesn't make people 'dumb'.
You're just jealous people don't clap for you because you do nothing but sit behind your computer screen and write comments about people clapping. Seriously, grow up.
@mrbean2131 You may hate it but, the 747 is the finest plane ever built. I was a flight attendant for 38 years. Spent 33 of those years working the "whale". All crew members agree. It is the best ever built with the best performance and safety record of all commercial aircraft.
One night coming out of Narita we ran into such severe turbulence that bruising occured because of our seat belts. The pilots told us that it is the only plane that could come through that undamaged.
@bjbold Yeah, the 747 does deserve respect for being in the air as long as it has, given its passenger capacity and sturdy construction. I used to ride aboard DC-10 medevac planes back in the Air Force, and those huge Boeing airliners can shrug through turbulence that would turn a DC-10 into a lawn dart. You have to respect the engineers who can design and build something that large and flightworthy without having it fall apart under its own weight on touchdown.
a passenger in this flight complained and cried: My baggage! oh my baggage! it is lost! that bag was worth dollar 10...and u lost it qantas i will sue u.

@JetMechMA his way sounds cooler. You made it sound all normal and stuff.
i'd rather something explosively do something than rapidly do something... and I think that most of youtube will agree with me on this one... unlike 99% of my other comments.
Poor Qantas. I just think there are people in their organisation who have let the company down and its reputation. If Qantas is having their planes serviced in cheaper countries, then I am not surprised they are having things fall off their planes or these kind of emergencies. Cheap labour in poorer countries with larger unemployed willing to do more for less pay, puts any company at risk, especially airline companies like Qantas. Major airlines should rethink their strategies in line of this.
thats a really good safety record.... impressive.. and even with an incident like this they STILL didnt lose one.. just goes to show good piloting and skilled maintenance crews pay off

Yes! Lets fly the wonderfully trustworthy Alitalia - ITALY'S National Airline - 9 Crashes with fatalities and counting! YOUR airline like YOUR Economy is bust!
@AndrossKenobi Use a window as a gauge, the hole is the hole, probably about 5 window lenthgs high and 3 across, now that's a small hole. The rest of it is just wing/body fairing missing , it's not a hole and yes I have seen a jumbo up close, I'm an aircraft engineer :D
There is no evidence that there was any corruption in the Bush administration. In fact, Reader's Digest has stated that "there is no evidence of any corruption in the Bush administration."
It is not a gaping hole in the fuselage. It's "only" a blewn away wingspoiler. You could compare it with a spoiler at your car: When you place it you go faster and you stay on the ground better. Without it you can still drive your car and stay alive. The problem with aircrafts is that there is only one way to go when something goes wrong : Down and glide. Always there is no airfield in the neighbourhood to survive. That is the reason why airplanes are built “fail safe”.
@elton9876 well fact is there is a hole but most of what can be seen is a section of missing wing/body fairing...spoilers are totally different things...now you know.
@TalkToTheBody You are quit right. Thanks for amplifying. Fact is indeed that on high altitude (some 5-10 kilometers) air could escape from the cabin by a developed hole which is not clearly seen on this video. Anyway, this must have been an horrible experience for the passengers. They are very releived. I studied aeroplane physics/technics in holland/delft/technical highschool and my "only" experience with real flying is 250 solo flights with a glider, "only" at some 350 meters altitude.
@elton9876 never done gliding, but it would be nice to try though. As for the air leak, commercial aircraft actually prefer to pressurisation so any cabin air loss would be better for the airframe. We only have pressurisation for its occupants. Oxygen masks would have dropped, aircraft descends, no problem. Scary yeah I am sure it would be, even for an experience aircraft engineer. Skin is designed with tear away strips so only a small section of skin would be peeled off

@telosfd there are small cameras on the outsides of mew model planes
