I ride an Oldenburg gelding, and in our lesson today, We were working the 3-loop serpentine today and transitioning to trot at the center line, and he did a Flying Lead Change on his own. It was mostly his choice, but it was still, pretty awesome! This is a great clip showing what they look like!
Thanks Grace, a few months ago i was asking my pony to canter and she got the wrong lead in the corner, then my instructor asked me to come back to trot and get the corret lead, just before we came back to trot she did a flying lead change on her own! (unfortunately just after she did it i brought her back to trot, i wish we had the camera with us!) I hope we can get her to do them by design one day. :)
How can i get my mare to do a flying change? i have got her light on the fore hand but she simply wont change! ive tryed shifting my weight and dwin 20 and 10m circles!please help
Have you already done simple changes of lead with her? If not, try that first. I don't want to tell you something you already know, but in case you don't... Ride her in a 3-loop serpentine. As you cross the center line, transition down from canter to walk. As you change the bend for the next loop, ask for the other lead. Also, do you practice counter canter? People differ on which you should train first, but you could try that. Good luck & hope this helps!
1 of 2: if your horse has impulsion, and is moving in a "forward" fasion then bend her in the direction of the lead you want so if you want her left lead then bend her lik this- ) and if you want her right bend her like this (. They cannot of the left lead if bent right and cannot of the right lead of bent left. Understand? If your horse moves off your leg and bends correctly start cantering in a straight line in whichever direction on the weong lead (it doesn't matter when traveling straight)
