I personally commend this family for standing up against homosexuality. It is a disgusting behavior that somehow mainstream media found a way to thrust it upon all of us as an accepted behavior. Christianity is about Jesus creating a new covenant with all of humanity. The Old Testament God is very different from the New Testament God in terms of his relationship with man, This is the most fundamental difference between Judaism and Christianity.

Thing is, secondary issues, as you put it, seems to be the source of many conflict throughout history, including bloody ones. So I don't see them as such. For the verses, let's take Matthew 12:30: "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters". This is hardly a message of tolerance. While I'm not completely certain on my stance on gay marriage, there are Christians who still accept homosexuals for who they are because, quite frankly,elling someone that their going to hell for being gay is like saying that you go to hell for being black. I think there are something close to 40 000 denominations of Christianity world wide, all of them use the same book to construct their beliefs framework and not all of them reject 2/3 of it. Yes, they differ on secondary issues, but not on the primary definition of Christianity - believing in Jesus, and following what he taught. Anyone who does will know that Jesus taught us to love others, whatever sexuality they are or anything else. It's very simple. WBC don't do that. Therefore, they're not truly Christians. Thing is, secondary issues, as you put it, seems to be the source of many conflict throughout history, including bloody ones. So I don't see them as such. WBC to me is as christian as you, simply because everything they do/say can be retraced to the bible. The teaching of Jesus also include how you should handle slaves, and that you will burn in hell if you disagree with him

@assalane It's an extremely well known fact that Christians are not called to obey Old Testament law, and that they believe Jesus came to fulfil the old law in spirit, and that Jewish ceremonial laws (different to moral laws) are no longer obseved. For the verses, let's take Matthew 12:30: "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters". This is hardly a message of tolerance. How can you love someone if you perceive him as an enemy? But, imo love must be earned through a relationship based on respect and understanding, and not given carelessly to a stranger.

They mostly disagree on very small, secondary issues, or they're in agreement but just different localised churches.
