  • Jape was amazing & so is Jay, as much as I love Buddy & Ritchie I always loved Jape the most....not many know that he was an amazing songwriter & he did in fact invent the Music Video in 1959! tell ya' what I'd rather be watchin' "Bopper Vision" rather than MTV ....hmmm maybe this is why I don't watch MTV..............HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (menacing laughter)

  • I had a chance to see Big Bopper Jr and he's good, He's J.P. Richard's son alright.

  • Jay hope you read some of these comments your father was excellent and what you do i think your father would be so proud of you and i also take into account he was not just a performer but also a father god bless you your family and your dad RIP Jiles Perry Richardson Buddy Holly Richie Ricardo Valenzuela you all still rock the world .

  • I was there that night with my son. Quite a show, After this song he sang another about fathers. I wish I could remember some of the lines but I can't. I wonder if anyone might have a recording of that one? Sure would like to hear it again.

  • Its crazy how they never sold it all those years.

  • very cool

  • You got Richie Valens playing guitar behind the bopper too

  • its amazing!!!

  • This would probably be The Bopper at 50, had he lived. Damn, Jr could pass for him. Great clip.

  • I recently saw a picture of The Bopper's coffin at the mortuary before he was buried, and there was a guitar shaped wreath next to it, sent from Elvis.

  • Bopper Jr. you know how to make a grown man tear up. Your Daddy is watching. He is an Angel proudly resting on your shoulders and he will never, ever leave you. Your Dad was a good man. His light still shines bright because of you. Thanks....

  • is that buddy holly on guitar back there?

  • @tallboodyheartsyou13 Sort of... it's Buddy Holly impersonator, John Mueller. He's great.

  • @slimymeteor Who's the guy impersonating Ritchie Valens? I got a shiver when I saw him!

  • @MsCat2U Ray Anthony does Ritchie Valens, and the three of them actually tour together as John Mueller's Winter Dance Party. It's an incredible show that I'd recommend to any rock 'n roll fan.

  • his father would be so proud of his son. a fitting tribute

  • Wasn't Buddy Holly's wife pregnant at the time too?

  • @mrceebees14 Holly's pregnant wife, a widow after barely six months of marriage, miscarried soon after, ending that part of the Holly family tree. The miscarriage was reportedly due to “psychological trauma”

  • They're really making a movie of the Big Bopper??

    I can't wait!

I'm 18 and sadly, none of my friends listen to this music which is amazing!!

  • Its sorta creepy that guitarist looks just like Buddy Holly!

  • this is awesome!

  • I wonder why they never made a movie about the big bopper like they did with buddy holly and ritchie valens?

  • @stmichaeldad they are in the process of making a big bopper movie

  • @thecarters28 I can't wait o see it...any idea who is in it or when it comes out?

  • @stmichaeldad the site says in theaters 2010. just go to google and type in big bopper movie... it doesnt give out to much info though .

  • This is incredible! I never knew that the Big Bopper had a son! God Bless. Thanks for this. Your Dad was fantastic! And so are you!

  • @jrichmond7 The Big Bopper's wife was pregnant with Jr at the time of the crash. The poor kid grew up not knowing his dad.

  • Why didn't Junior get into the music business? He's could've been just as good if not better than his dad. He's got the same charisma, voice, and demeanor as his dad. Damn it!! So sad though, RIP Big Bopper Sr. :(

  • @bettescorpio From what i understand in a Q&A after "The Winter Dance Party" he said his mother wouldn't allow him into the music bussiness,as she felt it claimed his fathers life. You may be able to see the same Q&A here on Youtube?

  • @scruffy2112 Thanks for the info! :)

  • Unbelievable. Voice exactly like his father's.

  • he looks so like him, did the big bopper forget the breifcase that night has it sat in the surf ballroom for 50 years

  • You know,Somewhere in Rock n Roll Heaven Buddy Holly,The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens are looking at each other and saying what Bernard Edwards said on the last night of his life to his partner Nile Rodgers,He said quote"Man This Music is Bigger Than us".

  • nice vid

  • It was real good to see this video, I really liked the last part that Bopper junior added, "This briefcase is coming home" and the extra verse :)

  • ITS SAD CAUSE RITCHIE VALENS DONT HAVE A SON

  • What a nice tribute to his dad! Love the last verse.

  • I go to summer school with this mans son! thomas! cool kid!

  • i can see were he gets his good looks from,he looks like his dad

  • fantastic got a lump in my throat. close my eyes and you could swear it was the bopper himself. awesome. thank you for posting this

  • i wonder if thats the orignal jacket the big bopper wore his father i can never seem to find any information on orignal items owned but the big bopper

  • fab

  • God bless him,What a great performance!

  • i think your great i know your dad would be proud i thought i would cry when you talked to your dad on the phone 50 years to the day of his death you keep doing what your doing he's wasthing and proud of his son

  • God bless you Jr... You are a credit to your dad and what a wonderful way to respect his memory. He would be proud of you..

  • Neat but kind of creepy too! I can hear his fathers voice in him! WOW! Talk about speaking from beyond the grave!

    Way to go Bopper Jr.!!!

  • I really enjoyed you performing your dads song Big Bopper Jr.

You are a tangible piece of American History.

And I can See the pride you have in your father though you only knew him for a short while.

  • @2BrokeG actually he never met his dad he was still in his mums womb when his father "The Big Bopper" died

  • @2BrokeG Um Actually, Jr. never met his father. Sr. died in February of 1959 and Jr. was born in April of 1959. Check it out in Wikipedia.

  • @MRFABIAN2009 and yet his son is closest to his father than any one of us, just remember that.

  • @2BrokeG

The Big Bopper died 6 months before Bopper Jr. was born

  • I was lucky enough to meet jr and have a nice conversation. He's very dedicated to the "Winter Dance Party" and to carry on the tradition. Hope it never dies!!

  • I recall reading that it took many years, of soul searching before he could get up on stage to perform his dads songs. I recall hank Williams jr,also started his career doing his dads songs, but you dont see anyone fling dung at him for doing so.

  • Love Ya JAY!

  • I'm probably gonna get crucified for this, but does anyone think that by him making a career out of parroting his Dad whom he didn't even know, it's a little like graverobbing? It just seems like a bit of a smarmy thing to do. I mean, what if Lisa Marie wore her one of Elvis' jumpsuits and started doing "Jailhouse Rock"? She'd be nailed to a cross by sunset! LOL!

  • @gurganuschris i think you have a good point there.

  • What a great moment that was. I teared up a bit when he talked of his pops briefcase. I'm only 46 but have been a Big Bopper fan since I was 3. God Bless you Bopper JR. Your dad is an American Icon...

  • Wow, he sounds a-lot like his Dad.

    That is scary.

  • I got to know JP (Jr.) when he had a bar in Katy, Texas, a dozen or so years ago. He's gained weight since then; but at that time looked more like his Dad. Nice guy, as jovial as he seems

To loyboy: because of his weight, I doubt that's Dad's jacket he's wearing. Probably has had it copied.

  • sweet to bad he lost his dad in a verybad way

  • He sounds almost excactly like his dad. R.I.P. Big Bopper.

  • I just want to run up and give J.P Jr. a big hug.

  • Being 36 yrs old and knowing all the words to Chantilly Lace and singing them along with J.P Jr. Just shows you that I was born 14 yrs to late, lol.

  • This guy is truly a beautiful person.

  • Jape would be proud, great performance jr.

  • i wonder what happened to the orignal big boppers leopard jackets went unless his song is wearing the orignal now

  • This gave me chills just watching it, what a great video.

  • He didn't sell his dads coffin. The Bopper was being moved to another spot in the cematery, and under Texas law has to be interred in a new coffin. Bopper Junior donated the coffin to a museum in Texas. Hope this will set things clear with you.

  • you can go on the internet and see the story about him selling the coffin. It was orginially in a museum but he is selling it to make money for the movie about his dad. This was on line and also in the paper.

  • @yeloot Yes donated just after it was attempted on a sale for 250k on ebay it didnt sell-

  • Bopper Jr. does a GREAT job at his Dad's song. And what a poignant moment when he announced that the briefcase was finally going to make it home. I wish I could've been there. This looks so memorable and nice. A lovely tribute.

  • this was such a touching moment in the show. I almost cried myself! How sad that he has to sell his dad's coffin to get money to make a movie about his dad when Buddy and Ritchie both had hit movies.

  • I was there also and glad so many filmed entire songs. I could only do small clips on our camera. Thanks for posting this. That concert was a blast!!!

  • I was there and singing along, so my voice is in the background on this! Great night at the Surf!
