  • Loved it

  • bob chilcott worked with them on their english diction lol

  • Yeah great performance but vibrato sucks. Women can't help it, they whine.

  • S1sherlock you have a great ear! Test the pitch at the end and compare it to the beginning. It is different.

  • No, Zargon314. The original and period form is sung "sprit." The modern option is pronounced phonetically, "spear-it." I personally prefer the period pronounciation. Maybe that's because "sprit" doesn't challenge the legato phrasing as much. Too many consonant sounds makes legato harder to execute.

  • doing this with my high school choral group

  • I'm doing this with my College choral group! It's a lot harder than it sounds xP

  • I love this!!

  • shouldn't it be the "Spreet" of truth? instead of "spear-it"

  • @Zargon314 The original part books had only "spirit." The choice of how to pronounce it is left to the director as I'm not aware of any writings by Tallis on what exactly he wanted. The two most common are Spir't (omitting the second I altogether and singing it "speart") and Spirit with the first sung so quickly that it almost sounds like "sprit". I've never heard this use before, and while I wouldn't say it's best, it's not entirely wrong either.

  • I have to sing this as my midterm and conduct we just got the song a day ago.after listening to this I feel like I am going to fail very badly.

  • idk if it was planned or not, but i like the key change from F to E

  • @galesayers34 Wow. I didn't notice until you said something, but it's so subtle I wonder if it's in the music.

  • WAY too much vibratto, should have none.

  • @socwoods Some people have natural vibrato. It is impossible "to have none."

  • I'm doing this song to with my choir, this version sounds perfect to me :) Congrats to you all!

  • Maybe it's Youtube, or my ear, but they sound flat to me.

  • very nice sound! congratulations!

  • Yes, l agree a very nice sound indeed l am blown away by the pronunciation and phrasing by the Taipei Chamber Singers. Truly EXCELLENT piece that is far and away much better than many of the other US choirs.. Their singing was very precise and most enjoyable and (dare l say it) remarkably close in quality to many of the UK choirs! Loved the conducting and it was quite apparent that he and the choir really connected with this piece..

  • masterpeice

  • FABULOUS, thank you!!! Vibrato/quivers - are subtle but numerous: 1st one, to my ears, is at around 20-22 seconds. Is overall so excellent it was great but smoothing a few of those out would make it perfect, i think. Ta!

  • yes, i see your point, vibratos can be heard in the soprano line especially, which I presume would'nt be authentic to the period? was that the "pin" dropping at 2.25??!! :-)

  • This would have been sung by a boys choir in that period. therefore no vibrato. It really angers me as a singer when we are told to stop the vibrato. It is a true sign of a relaxed voice and not contrived.

  • Beautifully done - lump in throat and tear in eye on this - thank you!

  • I feel that trills and quivers of the voice can spoil this song.

  • Give me an example of where a trill occurs in this peice please.

  • My choir group sang this last year. <3
