As an operator of a vehicle you are responsible for all aspects of proper operation. You can not exit your car into traffic and if you are in an accident you need to observe safety. This includes putting on your hazards and placing flares or traffic triangles at a sufficient distance so that drivers can avoid your vehicle.

But standing in the icy road and dancing out of the way as the next car smashes your car is a lot of fun too.
