  • I saw Matt live after he released this album and his show was amazing. His live shows are always super high energy. I also got to meet him in Vancouver the day that this album was released, where I congratulated him as he'd been working on this album for 15 years! (Point being that he wanted it to sound different from all of his other music, different isn't bad). See him live on his tour for this album, guaranteed you'll feel differently about the album when you do.

  • i worked on this album its a very personal album for matt thus the mellow music... Matt is an artist and his music is his way of expressing who they are at a moment in time this album reflects where matt was at when he wrote it. its a very intelligent album.

  • @PaulDutil

I agree very intelligent (as always), just wasn't feeling it musically as much as say Vancouver, I've bought every album Matt has ever put out, some I love more than others and I will always come back and buy a new release without even hearing a song because I know the quality is there even if it's not an album that totally wins me over. I like when Matt gets highly energized in his music and lyrics... I just found myself not being able to connect with this one as much. Rock on!

  • @PaulDutil i think it's fucking incredible. i like it a lot more than Vancouver, which i absolutely loved also. excellent job to you and Matt and all the people that worked on the album. fucking GREAT.

  • Just take it from album to album. It's the process. Read deeper than the evolution of the albums, and into the meaning. His worst album...doesn't exist.

  • I have to disagree. While 'Vancouver' is a great album start to finish, 'Hospital Music' was more sincere and honest. He really opened up and let the listeners in. I really like this new album, but when you listen to the others, you get the impression that 'Lights of Endangered Species' was done, just to get it 'out the door'. I wouldn't dare say it was rushed, but it lacks something his other albums have.

White Lightening R & R Review is my least favorite solo effort from Matt.

  • First album of his I really didn't like at all. I have liked everything up to this point, including Hospital Music. Completely agree that it was too mellow/drowsy etc.

The Nickleback thing IMHO has little to do with their being Canadian and more to do with the fact that they are one of the bigger mainstream acts today in rock music. No way Chad Kroeger can even spell "Symbolistic" much less use it in a song.

  • @TheSteinasty

I love when smart people come around. You get it!!

  • I love how you compare Matthew Good to Nickelback...only Canadian bands you know?

  • @flydc29

No, the point I was making which "TheSteinasty" completely understood was that Nickelback is brain dead rock, you don't need too many brain cells to listen to the garbage they turn out, where as someone like Matthew Good is smart (even if stupid politically speaking) yet he writes material that is not only challenging musically but lyrically. BIG DIFFERENCE. I used Nickelback as example cause they are typical overrated mainstream garbage that people like you digest.

  • Overall 'Vancouver' has been his best album thus far in my opinion...the instrumental alone is incredible, that mixed with his voice you can't find anything like it! I'd love to see a concert with a set list containing Non Populus and Empty's Theme Park..if those were played consecutively I would probably jizz all over the people sitting infront of me....

  • Where is this video from?

  • i'd love his farts too. PS: Hospital Music was amazing. this album was ok.

  • and as it prooves they do not affect creativity if used ccorrectly and adequaet nutrition is replacing the lost nutrients .. because meds deplete nutrients. matt good proves this because his most recent album is my favorite. He is truly amazing and i love him so much !!

  • @AllThatMakesUsHuman4 , you're actually right. Im sorry i was on a tangent that day ... part of beinb bipolar. I agree that most people need medication to function but I look forward to the day when that wont be the case. I myself am treating my condition naturally and I only hope that others who have bipolar can do the same soon. Medications are not good for your body and poison you over time , they are amazing used acutely but realistically aren't good to be used for long periods

  • I like the line "if I am the crazy one, what the fuck's with everyone else?"

  • actually, i am pretty sure his farts are something i could live with. from matt good, they are probably kind of savory.

  • beautiful progression from a lovely man, just figuring it all out... its lovely

  • Someone needs to put 'Set Me on Fire' on Youtube.

  • I kind of agree with @EllerySneed, I am going to see Matt Good @balafalls Oct 9 2011 and I hope to hear the high energy version of Matt Good! Do not feel like spending good $ on anything less. MG rocks... for example the song Lost Parade is great.

  • Actually this is my GF's youtube Account.. I'll make you a fangirl though!!!

    '

  • Ellery Sneed- its actually my boyfriend who made those posts...I have also been a fan of matts for 15 years..........so what if someone falls in love with an artists music?? fan girl....good one lmao

  • In my eyes he has never written a song i don't absolutely love!!!

  • @jentrevors

That's cause you're a fangirl... he could fart into a microphone and you'd love it.

  • @EllerySneed Ah, hostility, that's entirely necessary when someone's musical taste differs slightly from yours.

  • @Selachim

Not being hostile, it's just when someone says they love everything a musician has ever wrote or recorded it comes off very fanboy/fangirl ish... usually those types of people would say a recorded fart by a musician or band was AWESOME too... just saying.

  • @EllerySneed Agreed, that is a statement akin to a fangirl. However, I think as a whole, 'LOES' was his best work (lyrically, not musically) since Avalanche. Save for a few songs (eg. Empty's theme park, Blue Skies Over Badlands, Silent Army In The Trees), his lyrics have not struck a cord with me since 'Avalanche'. That's not to say they aren't good, I just found the lyrics on 'LOES' much more relative in my life.

  • @EllerySneed For me, the ability to relate to Matthew Good's lyrics makes him a special artist, not his musicianship. I will agree with you that this album is not fast paced or hard hitting, but it was never intended to be. That's cool if that's what you like, but I never listen to MG to rock out, I have other bands for that. I turn on some MG when my soul needs some soothing. PS: I love your fart into a microphone remark, it is so true haha

  • @EllerySneed wow ur such a prick, she was just trying to be positive and you have to take her down a notch. Its negative people like you that are ruining our world

  • @ddaleo7

She can be positive all she wants, that is fine! I just don't like when people go overboard and get stupid in the process. When someone says a band or musician has never written a song that he/she didn't love it comes off very fanboyish. You know what really ruins the world? Bad music and the majority of mainstream musicians on the radio at present time. That is what ruins the world.

  • @EllerySneed well i 100% agree with u on that one

  • @jentrevors In yer ears! In yer eyes!

  • Most Matt Good albums i don't like at first but then i fall in love!!! It's like that with all my favorite music..

  • Loved the album, love this song.

  • that being said... matt good is a fucking genius and his shit his better than most even when its bad and i still love LOES. :)

  • The reason his last few albums haven't been as good as the old ones is because hes on prescription drugs for bipolar. Hope he finds an alternative way to heal his condition. I did , im bipolar 1 but yeah those drugs make you dull and lifeless with no creation. no way to live. Love you matt

  • Vancouver sucked.

  • @lindsmh hmmmm nope, your mistaken

  • I enjoy LOES very much, its got a bit of a Hospital Music vibe in rythem but lyrics not even close. This was much less personal on an album wide perspective and more of a social commentary on life and music in general. And even though its a little mellow I consider it my 3rd favorite just ahead of Beautiful Midnight behind 2-Underdogs and 1-Avalanche my favorite album of all time any artist any genre

  • music is very subjective. If you grew up listening to his music you would think that all of his songs are approaching perfect.

In fact, this was y least favourite song fro the album..

  • Lights of an Endangered Species is an incredible album, I don't know how you can't like it.
