Does anyone know if they'll have a fully fared production version? I feel like it would increase aerodynamics, range, and speed. Their racing version is fully faired but for some reason the production version doesn't appear to be.
now add to this a photovoltaic panel array system to charge it & you'll be riding for peanuts !
sure one has to have the cash to start with but , just imagine : no queuing at the gas station ? irrelevant gas prices ? me likey......
then as a GSXR1000 owner myself, at least around town NO big bike would even come close to it in real world traffic conditions given the ''instant full torque'' characteristics of electric motors - me VERY likey....eh, eh, eh.....
totally! I want an Empulse for around town so bad it hurts. Every time I pump more gas into my 2-wheeled Lambo (09 R1) that gets an appalling avg. 20mpg!
@S0u11ess@S0u11ess It doesn't look like it. Most e-bikes are 1 seaters because the batteries' range is drastically impacted by weight. So having an extra 100-200 lbs on back is fine coming home from the local disco, but not for a day in the canyons.
If this is a 6 kWh battery pack model where will they fit another 4 kWh of batteries? 10 kWh is almost twice as large as what other manufacturers currently use in they bikes/scooters. Brammo Empulse is IMO the best looking electric motorcycle at the moment.
I'd rather buy a bmw s1000r then this crap, and it almost cost the same! C'mon BMW, SUZUKI & KAWASAKI'S are now pushing 200hp & close to 200mph! LONG LIVE THE HAYABUSA!!!
@GSX1340R Sure, the 'Busa is a great bike for touring and on the dragstrip. And my friend Tom can actually push his around Malibu quite respectably.
But I'm tired of riding my R1 around town in 1st gear, sucking up 20 mpg every day. The Empulse should be just as fun as my R1 in the twisties and off the line. Iin fact, I'll bet I can launch this bad boy quicker than you can launch your 'Busa, even though you're bound to lose me by the end of the 1/4 mi. :-) Try one when they come out.
hey's right. Electric motors are the future so you losers addicted to oil are guna go the way of the dinosaur. Burning up a bunch of oil to propel a vehicle is just primitive. I'll take my Ebike with 100% torque right off the line. I'll be charging mine off of my PV solar panels at my house, i'll never plug into the grid.
Nice lookin' machine. I am definitely thinking of making a purchase in 2012. Don't wanna buy one of these in 2011 and get pissed cause Brammo goes tits up. Nice looking streetfighter design. I like how you can buy the lower end and only sacrifice a little range. The lower end should be faster since it weighs less with the same motor. This thing must accelerate like a mo-fo.
Why cant we have American workers working on these? Just a respose to seeing a post that said Brammo sold to Singapore. I would like to see all of this tecknolagy put to work in the United States. Well..I guess you have to do whats best for you. But damn. Anyway...I like the bike.
@yesIdoLikeDogs becaseu the corporations work on what is profitable, no oil no money for them, i mean tehnology is really advanced that they can make this bike and, if big corporations worked on them they could sell it even cheaper
@LiberalNutbag well, the parts mfg is in Singapore, but they said they're going to build them here, in Asia and in the EU, to manufacture close to customers. I suspect, judging by the recent groundbreaking on a new facility, they plan to keep some manufacturing in Oregon. Doesn't take a whole new building to do R&D.
@LiberalNutbag I dont blame your QUESTIONING point what so ever. Just like ssd's with sandforce 1200 controllers. g skill phoenix pro, mushkin callisto etc..both are manufactured and 90% built in usa..but the controllers themselves come from damn Tiawan or however it's spelled. I look forward to the day AMERICA'S MAKE 100% AMERICAN products. no IMPORTING..no having to buy ANYTHING out of country ever again. but ALL americans needs lower they're pay standards. ex: Ms state 12 to 10 per hour.
were in worst shape them before... I finally asked for a refund but the company was yanking me around. I finally had to hire a lawyer... funny that's when they gave me my money back.
learn from my mistakes always check these things:
1. Warranty / Refund
2. dealership Serving
3. Check the company out: BBB check for complaints or financial strength
4. Check the batteries if they are lithium / because they said they were on my bike and in reality they weren't.
@maxsystems so what company was it?!?!? it would be nice for people to know about problems before buying. I'm never shy about calling out a brand for not living up to my expectations. Bad press is often the only way to get them to change. As excited as I am about the Empulse, if it doesn't live up to my expectations I'll say it.
I had issues with battery performance and wasn't getting no where near the numbers stated on paper. When it came to serving the bike it was a nightmare no company/dealer in AZ was authorized to service the bike and the company I bought from didn't cared never answered or replied to my calls, voice messages or emails. And when I did reached them they said I had to pay for shipping to send it back to California. I really liked the bike so I sent it back, when I received the bike the batteries
I wouldn't be to eager to shell out 9-13k for an electric bike unless they come with a decent warranty and dealerships that serviced them nationwide or regional. Trust me save yourself a headache-unless you live in California or Oregon don't buy. I live in AZ, and I bought an electric bike from a competitor that's based in Cal, the elec bike seemed OK and the numbers of MPG and speed on paper seem decent so I bought one, I was pleased with the bike the first week, but after a month....
If there are state wide demo rides, I will be interested. The adjustable suspension has already sparked my interest. So you are saying 100miles on the top spec model at over 100mph?
@allwheeldrive1 What they're claiming is the battery can last for 100 miles, but at a lower average speed than 100mph.
I know there are some roads we can keep it above a ton for ages, but it's still less than 100 miles before we need to slow down. I'm not sure what average speed will be to get 100 mile range, but I've found the original Enertia I borrowed to have decent range.
prob I have is motorway... and 55mph is sort of an absolute minimum safe speed. I have CB500s, which has loads of power, but drinks fuel a little too fast for our UK fuel taxes.
This bike would be great, but I do a 26 miles M-way journey everyday... so without clear speed to range data, I unfortunately can't look at viability. 35 miles range @ 55mph adv speed is minimum performance spec for viability.
they need to be quoting some range Vs adv speed data. All they keep saying is 100mph and 100 mile range, admitting that adv range it 100miles, but without saying what the adv range is based on (city, highway rural...etc). spec needs to say 100mile range at x mph adv speed.
@geoffart true. I think they don't even know yet. With the recent advances they've made to the Enertia Plus, they're clearly heading in the right direction. We'll have to wait till they finally roll off the assembly line and see...
SWEET!!! You know, if people want that motor sound you can hook up a sound system. lol. Another idea that Im sure you have thought of or already built..A three wheeler for thoughs that may be uncofortable about driving a two wheeled machine.Anyway,.. the streets need to be filled with these bikes.
I have 2 bikes a Buell and a Brammo Enertia. Any trip of real distance I use the Buell but for my local riding I use the Enertia and it has proven to be very reliable and lots of fun. Count on me upgrading to a Empulse! On top of that they are a American company building a bike that doesn't use any middle east oil.

@geoffart But the specs on the Empulse are:
top speed "over" 100 MPH (exact speed not yet released)
range available in either 60, 80 or 100 miles average range depending on how much you want to spend.
