  • I can't stop crying!!!

  • so beautiful I couldn't stop crying what a beautiful video I recognized the music from Schindlers List...Great Choice of Music....Mahalo so much for this it is so beautiful...Mahalo Nui

  • Theylooked similar to the Merina Dynasty in Madagascar. Sadly both hawaaian and merina were overthrown by greedy racist whites!

  • Beautiful...thank you for sharing...

  • This really, and most truly touchest my hart :,( on how Hawaii became a very strong monarchy in the pacific. The United States should know it is still not nice to take over other peoples land. Im happy to be american but i think its still not nice what the Americans did to the Hawaiians :(

  • Such a moving tribute to the brave and beautiful Hawaiian royal family. I recognized the music immediately, I have seldom experienced a more perfect blending of pictures and melody. The thought of the sadness and tragedy that these special people faced is beyond words. More Americans should educate themselves about the history of Hawaii, the facts are readily available for those who value truth and honor.

  • wow great pictures!! mahao nui loa:)

  • This is so sad. The most melancholy part are the pics of the queen in your final days. She looks sad. I suppose we would feel sad if someone kicked us out of your own home and land.

  • This is so sad.

  • beautiful video. where can i find the music?

  • Aloha Hokulani, i never tire of watching this. Such a beautiful tribute and choice of music.

  • Ue ka lani..........

  • i weep for my ancestors and for our beloved Queen~

    auwe ke ali'i o hawaii~

    he pono nei~

Thank you very much for sharing this.

  • If you study linguistic or languages you'll get some understandings of where or the path these pacific islanders took through southeast Asia on to the Indenosian islands so on and so froth... here are some, Malaysians - ibuoka, Hawaiian - pua'a, Cook Island and New Zealand Maori - puaka, English - pig...

  • Aloha sistah Hokulani. That was very beautiful. I was wondering if you have a website or facebook thingy. I'd like to learn more about our Ali'i. Mahalo nui loa, Aloha.

  • Check out fan pages "Hawaiian monarchy" and "Monarchies of Asia and the Pacific" on Facebook.

  • All are part of the Austronesian language family, one of the largest and most widely dispersed language family in the world.

  • I couldn't help but notice the comment made by syazwankhan. It's interesting because when King Kalakaua did His south east asian tour, He went to Malaysia and was surprized at how similar the language and people were to His Own. I lived in Indonesia and i was amazed at how the eastern side of Indonesia (Maluku) how similar they are, not only Hawaiians but to Polynesians as well. Wonderful video of the Ali'i, may their spirits live on and guide us for a better tomorrow.

  • Yes, the King commented to his sister that the Maharajah of Johore looked exactly like his deceased brother, Leleiohoku. The Maharajah also was surprised with the similar primary vocabulary (api=ahi, lima=lima, etc). King Chulalongkorn Rama V of Thailand also noticed that since he spoke Malay and remarked that Hawaiians seemed to look like southern Thais from Patani (who are actually Malays) and Champa people (another Malay people in southern Vietnam/Cambodia).

  • Oh my God !!!

    who's is that Ali'i in 3:25 ??

I just can't help it cause he looks like my cousin Mirza

  • That's Queen Lili'uokalani when she was in her twenties.

  • Or do you mean 3:23? If its 3:23 then that's Prince Leleiohoku who Kalakaua said looked like the Maharaja/Sultan of Johor.

  • Yup what I meant was 3.23-3.25. Yes he look totally like my cousin. Anyways Hokulani, where is their descendants today ?

  • That one did not have any legitimate descendants. He was the heir to the throne but then died suddenly in 1877 thus paving the way for Lili'uokalani to become the heir to the throne.

  • Greetings from Indonesia ... yes, I believe that Hawaiians have a long lost historic bind with Indonesians. But nobody knows, actually from which part of Southeast Asia Polynesians are originated before they made a journey and find the recent Polynesian Islands ( they did not stop in the islands occupied by Melanesians ).

  • They look like malays

  • Thank you very much for posting this. I was born and raised in Hawai'i. Some of these photos I've seen before but many only for the first time. Tell me, on 2:34, there is a picture of King David with a group and R. Louis Stevenson, having lunch. I was told my great-great grandmother was a servant for the royal family. I believe the woman, standing at the back, to the far right is her. Where could I see a better copy of that picture?

  • A truly beautiful reflection on past Hawaiian glory, but won't you please tell us what the stirring, profoundly moving piece of music is? It is really quite lovely.

  • A remix I did of the love theme from "Cinema Paradiso" by Ennio Morricone.
