  • Pat, are you GOD?

  • Very simple but effective tune. Gets you feeling good, positive, oriented ! Arturo Villarreal, from Panama!

  • I wonder if Lyle loaned out his rig to Jim Beard to get the orchestrations just right.

  • Really interesting to hear with a different piano sound. Nicely bluesy solo.

  • This rocks. But who is on keys/piano? It's NOT Lyle Mays!

  • @andyinsdca - I think it's Jim Beard. His Wikipedia entry states that he toured the world with Pat Metheny's Secret Story project in 1992-93.

  • This is simply sensational, Pat out does himself again.

  • THANKS FROM BILBAO!!!

  • This song got me into Pat ....' I thank You '.

  • This song has always been a fav of mine!

  • Born in Lee Summit, Missouri=Kansas City, Missouri baby ;-)

  • PAT METHENY SHREDS !!!!!!!!!!!

  • really excellent drumming, bass, and trumpet. guitar synth and piano were better on the album version.

  • dam this some hot fussion jazz going on here the man is fucking insane great guitar playing excelente bad ass bilbao comands your attention

  • Bilbao rules!!!!! con dos cojones!!!!

  • Well THAT burned down the house! Glad I checked this one out. I haven't heard Pat play in a while but that sure put a smile on my face.

  • Proud graduate of the Lee's Summit High School in Missouri (The high school I go to). And we're playing this in our jazz band. Metheny you are amazing.

  • holy crap... i mean pat has an amazing gift but i was having a hard time following that solo. and i think he might have had a seizure too

  • Great version of this song. I've heard it at least 3 times in person and each time there are new thrills and chills!!

'Secret Story' was Pat's solo project and as I recall Lyle Mays was busy doing his own thing, therefore he was not on the official album tour which I believe started in late 1992 and ended in Kansas City November 1993. I was there at the last SS concert and was so taken by the music that I sat in stunned silence after several songs.

  • The world is a better place with more Metheny videos on Youtube!

  • Where's Lyle Mays on this one?

  • it might have been the "story tour", which had a special lineup...

  • Lyle Mays was not involved in the "Secret Story" tour, it's Jim Beard playing. Very good, too, but Lyle's even better. Listen to his incredible solo on on this tune for the "Travels" album

  • There has got to be some video of this tune from the Travels / Off-Ramp era. Its hard to imagine music more thrilling than the way it came out around then. I love all incarnations of PMB and other projects (best when they are playing from their own era...) but you're absolutely right, Mays' solo on that particular track is out of this world. So is Pat's.

  • GrayComa-

You really do sound like a stupid ass. Why you so unhappy?

  • this is incredibly amazing!

  • Whose is this song?

  • His.

  • Was that Mark Ledford on the horn? Never mind I see him during his solo. What a loss... dkendzior thanks for the memories.

  • miss Michael Brecker

  • Hey, where is Lyle?

  • Such a rare thing in modern music - technology, technique, and raw, blazing talent combining seemingly effortlessly, none outbalancing the others - a performance that truly awes and inspires. The mediocre sound quality cannot mask the the vivid excellence herein embodied.

  • ¡la mierda se arde!

  • Simply Put!!! Sensationa!! I've always loved this tune!! Mannnn!!

  • I know I just heard this, but I'm still pretty sure it isn't humanly possible to be that good.

Guess I'll have to listen again... and again and again

    SEEK BEAUTY!

  • fucking

    epic

    shit

  • drum machines have no soul. you go paul!!!

  • What dvd is this off of? I own ( Secret Storys,Speaking of Now,The Way Up,Imaginary Day, and We Live Here ) on dvd but yet never seen this exact version of Song for Bilbao on it.

  • Ah, yes...so much joy and great music in 9 minutes.

  • God. Fabulous!

  • who's the guy on the piano?

  • pipi333 - The Piano Player is Jim Beard

  • pass around the virtuosity...pls 'xcuze my ignorance of the keybordist's name but he sure fills lyle's place with a beautiful part

  • Wonderful!

  • Jeeee, ich hab Pat Metheny noch nie so abgehen sehen! WOW

  • You are the best guitar player in the world! Please come to Hungary, because we wait for you!!!

    András from Hun.

  • I love this song, I first heard it on a Metheny/Brecker albumn called 'Tales from the Hudson', they are both stellar on it and I highly recomend it.

Though Pat doesn't go quite so crazy on the studio recording, lol!

  • That album is "Songs from the Hudson". It's a good version of A song for Bilbao, but I love the original soundtrack. Both great anyway!!

  • "Tales from the Hudson" ;-)

  • thx for the correction :)

  • When I hear this song I hear the Antonio Carlos Jobim undertones so clearly, he was a great mentor to Pat. He utilizes Nana Vasconcelos and Milton Nasciemento percussion and rhythm to the hilt on this whole cd. Another prime example of the vast travels you can experience with Mr. Metheny...so good, oh so good.

  • Unbelievable solo from Pat... phew!!

  • I have lost the ability to form coherent sentence fragments after that.

  • THAT is some mighty getdown.

  • gosh!

Pat gets very wild on solo indeed! beuatiful

    thanx pat

  • really "gone wild"

  • Pat Metheny gone wild! Great stuff!

  • thanks you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    SEEK BEAUTY
