@TheLerom Others have replied that Napoleon Hill talks about the importance of effort in other chapters of the same book, but even in this chapter in the book, he shows how real faith involves action, not just hoping. The big difference between this series and "The Secret" is that it he tells people to work, unlike "The Secret" which just tells people to "be open." This is why Napoleon Hill is fondly remembered to this day and so many of these authors are quickly forgotten, even best-sellers.

The Secret is ok but what didnt work for me was they made it sound so simple: all you have to do is change your thoughts like that's so simple. they left out that changing your thoughts is hard as hell! i have been working on that for about 8 months now and have found some effective ways but it's still a battle every day. I like the way Hill explains this stuff while keeping the spiritual side in it.

@mrprofd Well, partly. The Secret was actually stolen from Wallace Wattles' book The Science of Getting Rich (19th Century). It's actually an open secret. The fact that there's so much overlap indicates its validity I think. Wattles claims to have drawn upon Hinduism along with Descartes, Spinoza, Hegel and others. The concept of one universe is certainly popular with the modern spirituality of Eckhart Tolle and Adyashanti. So, it's all one. LOL

Hey ashams22- I'm Muslim too and I agree that everything he says is in agreement with the Quran - in Napoleons book Think And Grow Rich, there is a chapter on persistence and he summarizes the biography of Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) and uses his example of persistence, he uses another Muslim hero (The conquest of Spain) in his chapter on Desire in how he burned the ships behind him. Hill recommends a specific biography of Prophet Muhamed(pbuh).

Hill also talks about getting over the fear of criticism, and not caring what 'they' think - so just stick to your guns, who cares what they think! Hill doesn't directly refer to the muslim hero, but the story is the same, so I can only infer that it is the same story - but heck it certainly makes it clear the notion of a burning desire.
