Fotoflame strats, despite the stigma with the top and finish, are easily the best sounding and playing stratocasters I've ever come across. When Fender received the first batch of Japanese strats under their licensing agreement, it was said to have completely demoralized the Custom Shop employees.

To be honest the action looks high in this video, the string tree is old school Fender and has known issues, the tuners look cheap and old fashioned, and the head stock wood grain is inconsistent, OK that's a personal thing, but I don't like it. It's a nice looking guitar, but what is the price? A MIM Strat with pickup change and locking tuners would only set you back £550 all brand new.

@boagley1yeah i am agreeing with you slimmetalpickin. a japanese built strat is not better then a american strat. fender limits the capability of what the manufacture can do and put on the japanese strat and the american versions end up with better features. but a japanese built ibanez is much more precise and sounds and is much better then a american strat for playing. which is basically a superstrat not limiting the japanes manufacutres from there capabilities.
@boagley1 the ibanez guitars are basically higher quality and evovled guitars from fenders strats that fender is to afraid to change and keep up to date. and are built just as well if not better due to there experience copying and building guitars for fender. now what i have not yet seen is a good japanese guitar that out does gibson for its price. thought fujigen does make epiphones. and the fgn do look competitve but also look just as expensive as gibson. so i would get my self a gibson.

Fujigen Japan crafted & other Japan brand guitars are the among the highest quality crafted guitars on the Planet & will out perform any Gibson or other high priced guitar....regardless of the price! Who plays Japan crafted guitars? Joe Satriani, Steve, Vai, Kirk Hammet, George Lynch, Zak Wylde, and most the other greatest guitar Gods on the Planet! Why because the best will play the best.
By now everyone knows Japanese guitar luthiers are far better and more dedicated than American. + They don't expect their customers to pay ridiculous prices for their instruments!!! :)
and overall seem to be the leader from my experience out of all companies that is not american. actually since the technology is better on all these superstrats made by japan i prefer them to american guitars since america has great original models that are from the original days that is a safe bet and never let any one down but still the new stuff comming from japan just has an edge due to the new technology and floating bridges stay in tune weeks of abusive play still.
and esp's are awsome guitars but way overprice and still just missing the edge ibanez has on them even when ibanez is lower priced and jacksons are the best priced ones and some day the three of these companies which makes all the custom superstrats will probably be too good to even say one is better then the other. well there pretty much there already but from my experience my hands find fujigen the most precise manufacture on the neck.
and tone wise there in a different category what fujigen does just amazing tone that comes out of thoughs guitars and the ibanez models they make always have amazing technology in them but even the low tech safe epiphones fujigen makes and strats are in a different league to but the fujigen ibanez models and standard fujigen guitars are just not considered strat copies anymore they are the benchmark for being superstrats. and jackson is a lower priced company on the uprise too.
but it was not up to par with some of the average to higher end japanes guitars i have touched. like i would say depending on what your looking for you could compare it to any esp or jackson in the same price range but the higher end esp and jackson blow them away still. but the anything that i have touched made by fujigen like the pure fujigen guitar in this video or any ibanez that is not a micro or beginner model blows it away with there incredibly comfortable necks.
actually tone wise i liked it and would have taken it over a basic strat. maybe even some of the lower priced american ones since it had newer technology on it. it sounded really good. the wood in the body and all was actually not cheap and was built right. so korean guitars definately dont feel like fake copies like they used to be considered. it was definately a respectable guitar.
Dude, you must not have played any guitars from the Fujigen Factory in Japan!!! Trust me, I'm MEGA pro America, big time. But I hate to say it, I've never played a better guitar for the money than the Fujigen made guitars. Epiphone Japan, Epiphone Elitist, Orville by Gibson, Ibanez Prestige, etc. Just amazing guitars in quality materials, fit and finish, playability, its just overwhelming!

@Ernesto9IL ok yes i totally agree with you 100% then. esp's are nice i still prefer the fretboard of an ibanez. there the only ones i can get my action to 1/36th of an inch with no dead spots on the 24 fret board. esps are like jackson sometime there new models on the 20th and 22nd frets are to dead for an action under 1/16th of an inch. but still compared to american strats that are stuck at 1/3 of an inch action esps and the models you mentioned i totally agree fall under fine machines.

FujiGen make awesome guitars. All those Prestige, J Custom and signature Ibanez's? Made by FujiGen and Team JCraft.
This guitar isn't one of the nicer ones, but don't count out FujiGen - theymajority of Japanese guitars probably came from their factory.

@boagley1yeah i am agreeing with you slimmetalpickin. a japanese built strat is not better then a american strat. fender limits the capability of what the manufacture can do and put on the japanese strat and the american versions end up with better features. but a japanese built ibanez is much more precise and sounds and is much better then a american strat for playing. which is basically a superstrat not limiting the japanes manufacutres from there capabilities.

@boagley1 the ibanez guitars are basically higher quality and evovled guitars from fenders strats that fender is to afraid to change and keep up to date. and are built just as well if not better due to there experience copying and building guitars for fender. now what i have not yet seen is a good japanese guitar that out does gibson for its price. thought fujigen does make epiphones. and the fgn do look competitve but also look just as expensive as gibson. so i would get my self a gibson.

and overall seem to be the leader from my experience out of all companies that is not american. actually since the technology is better on all these superstrats made by japan i prefer them to american guitars since america has great original models that are from the original days that is a safe bet and never let any one down but still the new stuff comming from japan just has an edge due to the new technology and floating bridges stay in tune weeks of abusive play still.

and esp's are awsome guitars but way overprice and still just missing the edge ibanez has on them even when ibanez is lower priced and jacksons are the best priced ones and some day the three of these companies which makes all the custom superstrats will probably be too good to even say one is better then the other. well there pretty much there already but from my experience my hands find fujigen the most precise manufacture on the neck.

and tone wise there in a different category what fujigen does just amazing tone that comes out of thoughs guitars and the ibanez models they make always have amazing technology in them but even the low tech safe epiphones fujigen makes and strats are in a different league to but the fujigen ibanez models and standard fujigen guitars are just not considered strat copies anymore they are the benchmark for being superstrats. and jackson is a lower priced company on the uprise too.

but it was not up to par with some of the average to higher end japanes guitars i have touched. like i would say depending on what your looking for you could compare it to any esp or jackson in the same price range but the higher end esp and jackson blow them away still. but the anything that i have touched made by fujigen like the pure fujigen guitar in this video or any ibanez that is not a micro or beginner model blows it away with there incredibly comfortable necks.

actually tone wise i liked it and would have taken it over a basic strat. maybe even some of the lower priced american ones since it had newer technology on it. it sounded really good. the wood in the body and all was actually not cheap and was built right. so korean guitars definately dont feel like fake copies like they used to be considered. it was definately a respectable guitar.

Dude, you must not have played any guitars from the Fujigen Factory in Japan!!! Trust me, I'm MEGA pro America, big time. But I hate to say it, I've never played a better guitar for the money than the Fujigen made guitars. Epiphone Japan, Epiphone Elitist, Orville by Gibson, Ibanez Prestige, etc. Just amazing guitars in quality materials, fit and finish, playability, its just overwhelming!

i respect your opinion, i too own own two korean made fenders and a schecter made in china. they are fine guitars as you said, for the money. with rare exception, gibson, fender, PRS, Jackson, and so on make far and away the best guitars on earth in the USA. sadly it is one of the few things we still do better than the asians. my racial slur was inappropriate.

there not ripping off american quality fenders out sourcing to them because there better. and recently fujigen feals maybe its time to make there own guitars. so now there making there own line and putting more effort into quality of woods in all in there fgn series then they ever did for fender. i dont know if its much better then alder bodied ibanezes though but there fgn series is the best stuff up there equal to best ibanezes. this aint no copy its this generations best tone.

@burnsometrashcans yeah actually your right korean guitars i am starting to notice recently steping out of the category of being fake and up there with an acceptable guitar. one of the most respectable shops that used to only sell american fenders in my town recently got some korean shecters and i went in to try an amp and the only guitars that looked simular to ibanez with humbuckers was one of thoughs so i took it down and was really satisfied

@julabask have you ever watch the basswhisperer video? the bass that he use for his review is from indonesia(oh yeah im a bass player btw),like g&L,sterling,and other.i never heard there's a fender from indonesia that have a bad qualitty.and my bass that i use on my video (cort gb94) is made in indonesia and its crafted really good,and its have a nice sound(well duh the pickup is seymour duncan bassline) well the sound kinda f*cked up because my amp.

@faisalfarissi i personally have never touched an indonesian guitar that was built very well at all. thats why ibanez most expensive models come out of and can only be made in japan. the best non american or japanese guitar i have heard was a hagstrom it sounded very much like a gibson but it was built like shit. the fret board was so un strait it had 12 dead notes. and flimsy design. indonesia's reputation is actually at the moment worse then china and korea. they make the cheapest out there

@faisalfarissi dont get me wrong there is many instruments out there that are made by all three that would qualify to many people out there as good tone. when i started many chinese indonisian and some korean guitars really were fun to play on. including a g&l guitar my friend let me use of his. and a few corts he really collected a bunch of cheap guitars that really sounded good. and at that time i thought they were legendary. until i touched a fender made in usa

@faisalfarissi they are the better then they were and the fact they made better guitars then american fenders 40 years ago with no experience. i garuntee they are much better now then fender considering the fact fender has not gotten any better if not worse. and i know for a fact the rg570ct i have blows away my 2,000 dollor fender.so i am not dissing other asian guitars they were once acceptable for me but these guitars are infinately better and you wont know it until you try them.

@faisalfarissi also i live in america so i had the oportunity to try out many good american guitars and i never had the money to really try them until that day and wow it was actually a difference i never new was there. its really a different caliber. but they were all a different caliber then i had ever heard. still yet the technology sucked and still felt there build and the american fender pulled out sounds i thought only the pro's could do and had o idea that a electric guitar sounded like.

@julabask then one day i walked into this used guitar store that always had unique guitars and i saw this shiny gold hardware ibanez. after playing it. it blew away in build and tone my usa fender. i mean it blew it away more then the usa blew away my indonisian guitars. it was a caliber i never dreamed of in tone. it was a rg570ct. and now its my primary guitar one of the only ibanez alder body guitars. and its build quality was so good and learned more about this model.

@julabask this model was made out of a manufacturer called fujigen who used to make fake fenders in japan yet people to this day say they were better quality then the famous americn fenders. and was sued by fender because they were so identical and better. this was in the 60's since then they got contracts from companies like ibanez and even fender to manufacture there guitars because they learned they had luthiers and better quality control then even americans could do.

@Ernesto9IL ok yes i totally agree with you 100% then. esp's are nice i still prefer the fretboard of an ibanez. there the only ones i can get my action to 1/36th of an inch with no dead spots on the 24 fret board. esps are like jackson sometime there new models on the 20th and 22nd frets are to dead for an action under 1/16th of an inch. but still compared to american strats that are stuck at 1/3 of an inch action esps and the models you mentioned i totally agree fall under fine machines.
