  • This was in a college that's why it wasn't so professional. My sister said students practice on each other all the time.

  • i just got back from one

  • wow... that was pretty bad

  • oh my god that would NOT be me i would probably kill the nurse if i felt it

  • I love the jumping! I'm so gonna do that when I see my Pt. Lol good job!

  • I went to donate plasma and after the nurse cleaned the area with the iodine swab, she had to go switch over a machine, and as soon as she got back to me, another machine went off. This happened about 2-3 more times so when she was finally ready for me she had to clean the area again.

Biolife is very good at following procedure as far as I can tell.

  • My externship is in 5 weeks from now im going to do all that :P.

  • @XYtruck25 If I was the phlebotomist type, I would think there would be advantages working at a blood bank. Everyone is mostly healthy and there are no little squalling peds to deal with. And you don't have to work ridiculous hours.

  • thats nasty u didnt even clean her arm before goin in with the VAC, and why r u jumping thats not good.. that agaisnt OSHA..HAHA bad instructor.. ps why is ur tube connected to the vac before u even goin into the vein??

  • yea its a first time for everything.. im proud of you girlie you did good!

  • yea its a first time for everything.. im proud of you

  • I am going to school to study phlebotomy in the next two weeks and i just saw your video. Thanks for the info you have helped me a whole lot. I am still nervous but i will do well.

  • what is blood drawing because i heard that if you get bitten by an animal hard you have to draw blood. so i was guessing what does it mean to draw blood?

  • im 12 got it like 3 times first time it hurts, but the second time just hold the pain in, it takes a sec and the rest does not even hurt at all

  • As an instructor this makes me mad. How about cleaning 'The' site before your invasive procedure! Good way to get return bussines but we are suppose to heal.

. The vein was never stabalized and the technique as she inserted was nothing short of a perfect example of how not to stick. This is how nerve damage happens ladies. I could not even watch past this point. I'll be happy to provide better instruction in future clips.

Very important to have PROPER technique before skills.

  • @Teaching4Docs Couldn't have said it better myself. And I'm only in my first month. Not even the newest students would hold a needle like that, as my instructor would jump and make sure that they aren't stabbing the students. It doesn't matter how new they are, we make sure we are all good to each other.

  • why were you holding the needle like that?

  • i want to take phlebotomy program any suggestions. was the program worth it or what u think

  • @happypanda12 yes, it is one of, if not the highest paying medical field for the amount of school you need

$10-12/hr right out of school depending on where you live and lab, hospital, or w/e

here in denver suburbs ive seen several add's for phlebotomist wanted with 6 months exp hiring at $15.00/hr

  • @krypekeepe....when I graduated from phlebotomist school, I went to work for the blood bank. Good staff, expect girls were fighting. But I loved the job. Had a high turnover right. I went to work in the platelet area within 2 weeks. Too many staff memebers quit. Paid $12.00 and then quit and worked at the hospital. Paid $15.00 There is a high demand for phlebotomists, a shortage of nurses.

  • I start school for this in about a month.. I'll probably be the girl laying down because I'm scared of needles too.

  • totally agree with the other comments thats not how i learned. personally i perfer the other technique.

  • She didn't clean the site with alcohol! The teacher showed the wrong order. It should be take out the tub fist then release the tourniquet. * Tub, Tourniquet, 2x2*

  • great job! im starting my CNA class in two weeks. i know i've got a while before i get my nursing but oh well this little but of insight helped me! thanks for uploading!

  • Fatty

  • i have just completed my phlebotomy training in the united kingdom and they tought us while collecting blood you should release the tourniquet before the last tube is filled

and to not release the tourniquet while the tube is till in the needle holder .........damn am starting to get confused now lool

  • It should be take out the tub fist then release the tourniquet. * Tub, Tourniquet, 2x2*

  • See I learned it differently, I learned that you take the tourniquet off first then take the tube out. And once I started working in the field, they taught me that you should take the tourniquet off while you are half-way through filling up your last tube. Personally, I like it that way best. An MA will learn most on the job and during their externship. And it gets easier, but there will always be tiny, rolly-polly veined people who are difficult to get.

  • dam i had my first blood draw today man i wuz sweating it but i did good

  • this was the perfect video for me to watch.. i am starting blood draw in school and i am very nervous to have it drawn and also to be the one doing it. this video captured both sides and helped a bit. thanks!

  • holding the needle wrong!!

  • it duznt hurt. im 13 and i got my blood drawn like 4 times.

  • I know I got mine when I was 5 and I didn't feel anything.

  • ooo ur kool

  • I'm ten and i got it drawn 2day and i was like when ya gonna do it? and they were like its done

  • haha :D

  • Yes why was the sight not cleaned, she needs to stay a little longer for training or they need to get her experienced teachers

  • stop asking if she cleaned the site..was it your arm damn

  • when the one drawing the blood started jumping up & down I lost intrest, how unprofessional.

  • in the uk im a phleb and we have been told by the hospital not to swab the arm first so i dont know why you are all bitchin...she did well

  • I never check this thing... but to answer everybodys question at the beginning: YES, the site was cleaned. We took a long time with each draw and didnt want to film the everything - eventually we filmed only when the student accessed blood. And yes, I was holding the needle vey badly, now that i've been doing it - I look back at the video and say... WHAAAAT!! As for the non-professionalism - we were freaking out, at the time, no one had gotten a sucessful draw so we were all on pins and needles

  • my first blood draw i had virtually no instruction. it was impromptu at my job on midnights, one of the nurses was like, well, you're a tech, you should know how to draw blood, get the stuff and you can practice on me. yeah, i'm definitely more skilled at it now than i was, but the first blood draw is always pretty nerve-wracking, but you did fine!

  • How come the tech's that work for United blood serivces only get paid $11.00/hour. I would think they make more than that. I been going to donate for 4 months. I always hear from the staff, that so and so quit and got another job

  • wow ive never seen anybody hold the needle like that

  • Ew, why was the site not cleaned?????

  • why was the site not cleaned...

  • did u clean the site?!!

i know it was your first time to perform it but u should know that when dealing with it...and be confident and act professional

  • I got my blood drawn today!!! it didn't hurt and i'm 6

  • When you are a student, do you have to also be the guinea pig, or is it a choice?just curious.

  • in phelbotomy the students are the guinea pig, no choice.

  • no choice. not fun. lol I do my clinicals in the fall and I am sure I will be used a lot...

  • I got my finger poked today and it F-ing hurt! Since I was being tested for mono and a white blood cell count, They squeezed it into a tube. I got woozy and fainted!

  • i had my blood dran yesterday after a logn time.. i wanted to see a video of it b4 i did but i figured id be more scared so i saved it.. it just hurts a lil pinch when they put it in but then after when the needles in its k.doesnt hurt no more! yey

  • omg i just had my blood drawn 4 the first time like 30mins ago. it hurts

  • i have my blood drawn every week from about 8 months ago cuz i have anemia and there trying to see if theres anything else they can do but i like needles and BLOOD cuz ive had it done sooooo many times i cant feel it anymore

ive had a few from my artery in hospital and it only hurts if a trainee does it and misses and tries to turn it to fast and nicks the artery then double punctures it and then finnally gets it :S( im 13 and a girl)

    good video:)

  • wow...im a diabetic, so i get my blood drawn every 3 months, and i think you are better than the last phlebotomist i had! :)

  • it feels really weird yet really good exept win the first stick the needel in your arm

  • Yep, gonna stick my first human today. Too bad the mannequin arms we used in class don't react like Nikki! Great job (both of you). Don't think I'll be jumping around until I'm done, though.

  • good luck! Im a phle too but poking for the first time wasnt nerve racking at all for me..I like to poke people not to mention I had previous experience from doing body piercings..so yeah the fear wasnt there..just the adrenaline rush! LOL but keep up the great work..just remember its always better to go deeper than it is to go too shallow because it hurts worse when your right under the skin..you can always back out if its too deep..but good luck and good job!

  • Great job Nikkstar!! Woot woot!

  • Way to go Nikki !! After watching I know.... I aint skeerd
