Zampieri was singing a lot in Vienna - her Odabella was great but she was at her best as Lady Macbeth - the best interpretation of that role I ever saw on stage. One may not like the sound of her voice which was sharp as a knife and without any vibrato then but in some parts she simply was among the top singers of her time
Comparing Zampieri's voice to that of a little bird makes it pretty obvious that you've never attended one of her performances - like her or not, but her voice was huge with a remarkable dynamic range - from a fortissimo that would literally nail you to your seat to a mesmerizing pianissimo - used with intelligence and an admirable dedication to her roles. You shouldn't judge a singer by an x-generation-copy of a recording with poor sound quality.
Brava.. Louis da Marsiglia..
Abbiamo fatto Macbeth a Orange e Don carlo in Toulouse.. tanti anni fa!!!!
Ciao
Sorry guys. Sutherland certainly was a great singer(I heard her many times in New York, Lucia and Fille de Regiment being her best roles) but, she NEVER was capable of singing with this kind of excitement. Brava Zampieri!
@organdude44 She recorded this aria and it is perfection, but you are right, she would never sing this role on stage. I can not simply understand why people are so critical towards Mara Zampieri. I think, we would be happy having such soprano now, she was never afraid to take the haviest and most demanding roles and, be honest, no singer has only great nights!! But here, she shines in top form and I feel her voice colour never bored !
Brava!
Hi there. Is it not fair to state this, I think. We would be happy to have such soprano here in Prague. Yes, she has never been counted among first class singers, but she did have her big moments. Another voice that did not suit to everyone, but she certainly have her funs as her voice colour is quite interesting and she has never been "sterile dispassionate" artist.
I know many who has better voice, but do boring performance.
E' magnifica!!!
The more I hear Zampieri, the more I think she may be the most underrated Soprano-Actress of the 20th Century. Unique voice, which she always seemed to choose the right role....and I have to say, was always note perfect.
