  • Everyone's fully dressed but the drummer in his short shorts and tennis shoes XD

  • A sadly overlooked true MASTERPIECE!!!

  • Just FOUR minutes?

  • One of my favourite albums EVER.

  • Wow. This is so weird.

  • genius - feet and head! Tell people - i feel sorry for those who dont get it!

  • It's strange how preppy and smart the main band member looked and then he got a bunch of scruffs to complete the line up. Totally ruined the effect.

  • kevin rowland is a musical genius! But where is the long version; it used to be here?

  • daily motion has the full 12 minutes of glory.

  • This such a great song and you can't buy it on iTunes. Shame. It's worth the damn $0.99.

  • kevin rowland has so much heart n soul it's unbelievable.a fantastic vocalist up there with plant n rodgers

  • Maybe dexy's best album........no, Young Soul Rebels was best.....but this is the most underrated album of the 80's.

  • hey wheres the full version?

  • 3 albums in the 80s with 3 different images, sounds and vibes, all wonderful. Such is the gemius of Kevin Rowland.

  • Coes anyone know if there's a DVD of the DSMD tour?

  • just love this guys tunes, kevin where are you now

  • I miss the full version :/

  • give us the chords......ffs

  • 11 people in the band ?? Touring must have been a nightmare.

  • i like seeing the WTC at the end...Oasis / Type O Negative and now Dexy's have WTC in their covers or clips..

  • Brilliant. Should have been a monster.....not the final nail in the coffin of a truly unique band. Thanks for posting.

  • this is only half of the tune we want the full 12min version

  • @Redvaliant

I think this might make your day: go to dailymotion and search for Dexys Midnight Runners - This Is What She's Like

You'll find the full 12.09 of wonderment

  • the video reminds me of mr bean for some reason .....but i love this band ... but this lp was the end of it for me ....it took to long to come out .. the band were amazing they had so many members from the studio to the coming to your town tour but kev oh kev man ..... why oh why .... do you look so much like mr bean .... self importance may be ........ 3 great tunes on the cd i bought it in new york in 85 ........ just cant get ...listen to this...... out of my head ......

  • great. this band is so amazing.

  • Never knew why I liked Dexys Midnight runners but today it clicked, it is the fiddling. US fiddling style is fine but there are subtle differences in Irish and British stylings of it.

  • Lyrics:

I daw lawk deez peehull shunah munnah whenner. Whacha wiwaah fasha wiwah. Intawn mitawn, Intawn mitawn, sheeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuwhwhwhahhaa.

  • Yes, a masterpiece

  • This could've been the sound of 1985!

  • @jayrox40 - this WAS the sound of 1985 - unless you believed the music press - which we didn't

  • @NeilThompson30 as a member of the 1985 music press I remember we all loved it.

  • @DavidQuantick - Hi David - you worked for the good guys - 'The Sounds' - The NME slagged it to death at the time of release - and then a few years later said it was one of the best albums ever!

  • TY for the memories- he had an amazing voice- too bad he didn't take off- some great songs- lots of bad ones- sad to see such a gifted vocalist go under :(

  • the best i can find for the the best tune ever tune ever

  • the most amazing track ever !

  • I absolutely love this song, and the album as with all of kevins stuff is amazing., a true genius.

  • One of the best albums ever made - end of.

  • Hi. You like Dexys. This is good. I have a challenge. Pick up a guitar/piano/banjo/spoon & play. Record yourself playing a song that you have never played before. A new composition. Play back the recording & sing along straight away. Don't write anything down just make up the melody & words as you go along. Then take one hour to edit/make video/cry. Then upload your song & link to my page. I have started you off. If I can do it anybody can. I used 3 chords & my broken old voice. Let's create.X

  • The English upper classes thick and ignorant? Ha!!!

    In time, in time.............

  • best album ever made.kevin is as poetic an irishman as joyce and kavanagh.the waltz is sumptin else.there's no beauty anymore.

  • c'mon Kev. Anything. Manhood was genius. cheers/ xx

  • What was the name of the album, there was a song that mentioned Belfast. Anyone know the name of the song.

  • @u2mcbride The album was Searching for the young soul rebels . The first and best Dexys album , i think the track was called " Thankfully living in Yorkshire it dosnt apply "

  • @u2mcbride

The album is called "Don't Stand Me Down" from 1985.The song is "One Of Those Things" .

  • Rock It Kevin

  • does anyone know where i can hear Reminisce (part 2) from dexy's don't stand me down album?

  • the full version is fantastic, should of been a massive hit, hurry back kev and keep the gold flag flying high.

  • The third album's the best of the lot. Awesome. Lyrics that read like the work of a nutter, but sung with enough conviction for me to believe every word.

Bless you Mr Rowland for injecting such genius into my teenage years.

  • perfect

  • UNforgettable song & album.

  • Kevin happy memories of our nioghts out at rum runner and pagoda park Birmingham... you always liked my sister pricilla but i was star struck lol....

  • does any one remember when they played the tower ballroom in birmingham and kev got the hump and stopped playing because the crowd wouldnt stop shouting gino. (about 1979)

great band. and bought soul to the masses.

You dont hve to tell me what she is like...i was there

  • it cut's off before the best bit kicks in !

Don't stand me down is their best record!

  • This is genius and I feel sorry for anyone that missed it first time round and still don't get it. The whole album is a masterpiece and remains one of my favourite albums nearly 25 yrs later. This is the art of Kevin Rowland.

  • are you kevins mum ?

  • I remember the first time seeing this and thinking, "well I guess they made so much money from Too-Rye-Ay that they could now afford to look all posh and corporate" LOL!

  • dont think i would be here if dexys wernt !!

man i was lost !!! thank you dexys midnight runners ps serching for the young soul reble is fking cool too !

  • its lovely.

  • this is a great song, but the best dexys line up was the original one, they had everything, a great sound, great look, just awesome brass section, my fave band of all time by a country mile

  • When Kevin parted ways with Paul Speare and Jimmy Patterson, it was the beginning of the end. He kept a token brass section and added strings, culminating in the truly awful "Come on Eileen"

A tragedy - they really were the best with Geno, There There my Dear, 7 days too long and the brilliant Plan B. How far can a band fall - this far - sadly.

  • A work of understated genius. Take no notice of those who dismiss Dexy's after album one or two. All three are meisterworks to be treasured and savoured. Also ignore idiots who think that 'Eileen' or anything off of 'Too Rye Aye' is rubbish because it gets played at weddings. 'How far can a band fall'? What a buffoon!

  • Grow UP! :) Well, it's a long, long while since anyone said that to me! Believe me, I take it as a compliment. I shall pass the medical help onto you though I think. I would respectfully suggest you get your ears syringed!

  • THE IS BEAUTIFUL

  • Horrible what a shame they got rid of the brass section!

  • Agreed. It's good, but the brass and strings are what separated it from everything else back then.

  • There is a brass section! Cloth ears!

It's not only the "Upper Classes" that are "thick and ignorant!" YOu want to play the long version! Genius!

  • Yes, it was a uniqe-misic! That style was called:Kevin Rowland&the Dexy's Midnight Runners' style. It's great!!!!

  • they or rather kevin rowland is a musical genius in my eyes and should have be ranked up there with the great innovators of music. pure class.

  • I first heard this Dexys back in 82 when my mate put it on Too-Rye-Ay while we played snooker in his living room.I remember on the first listen i thought "Thats Shite."

However,he did know his music. He played it constantly that day.I got me mum to get me it from Woolies the next day.Have been playin it ever since still my No1 album of all time.Thankyou Ross Baxter for the induction into the Greatest Band Ever.

  • "Well you know how the English upper classes are thick and ignorant"? FCKN love it.

  • This could've been the sound of 1985 but poor ol Kev got his head stuck up his arse!

  • My favourite among lots of others love em love em love em love em they should make a massive comeback.p.s seen them too.

  • I really like this, and the look, too. Yale Prep, guess you'd call it - difficult to pull off of course...

  • brilliant song group singer

anybody else think kevin looks like the bloke of the yank version of The office

  • At this point in my life i would have scarred the living fecal matter out of any of today's Emos / Emus ???.

  • Dexy's was a great band, they never really got the respect they deserved.

  • Still brilliant!

  • Dexy's my high

  • me too!

  • Hands down the greatest band!

  • "Well you know how the English upper classes are thick and ignorant?..." This song is mad, but it's also a masterpiece... Amazing to finally see the video.

  • I brought this album in the bargain bucket-lol-it was played lots and this track was me fav- tell me what's she like-come again-in time in time--l'd like to express myself to say Dexys are fucking brilliant!

  • Same here out the bargain bin , was a cassete , played it til it was so stretched out 70 mins of music on a 60 min tape

  • That's NYC!!

  • Billy Adams is the young Jon Stewart!

  • I worked in a garage and had Dont stand me down on in the background. A black customer smiled at me and said " wow, someone else other then me has this album, it's the greatest soul album ever made." I agreed and got into trouble for talking about music and Dexys for half an hour.

  • @Geoffers100 wow, i love that !

  • @Geoffers100 thats so authentic well done

  • That shuffle on the footpath at 2:25-2:30 is like so ahead of its time. dancemove wise that is...

  • That's no shuffle. That's the boogaloo!

  • Still incredible...

  • Great song from a great album. Bought it on the day of release in 85. Then saw them on tour the same year. Awesome.

  • Great song from a great album. Bought it on the day of release it 85. Then saw them on tour the same year. Awesome.

  • Exactly why "Too Rye Ay" was massively successful and "Don't Stand me Down" was completely ignored remains a mystery.

It is an extremely good album. My copy was purchased in HMV in Brighton in 1985 about a week after it was released. Did anyone else actually buy one, or did they all end up in the £1.99 bucket?

  • yeah yeah I bought one in australia. who say whiteman can't sing soul?

  • irish are the exception.

  • Great stuff.

  • The album version has the most amazing ending.

I met Billy Adams once on a train, bizarrely from New St to Euston with my brother. He denied who he was and really upset us. His missus kept on at him to let on but I think he enjoyed the game.

I interviewed Kevin as well, in a skirt - him not me.

  • can british pop music be bettered?

unashamed brilliance by the uks answer to brian wilson!!!!!

  • Always wondered if there was a video for this - thanks for putting it up - you've made my day!

  • love the song. but someone forgot to tell the drummer that it was a 'clothes' day.

  • Great soul song. That last shot will break your heart.

  • lol, infectious, amazing, and awesome. i think this song is using up the 90% of my brain i aint.

  • my brother will fucking love this. i gotta buy it for him!

  • how fucking amazing is this?

  • Don't Stand Me Down is a great album. This is my favorite track from the album for obvious reason. It's so infectious and I can never listen to it just once; maybe 5 or 10 times. There is a deluxe 2 disc edition of the CD that includes a DVD of a pair of videos.

  • No doubt that Don't stand me down is one of the greatest albums ever released. I loved this video, thanks for posting it. Where can I find more videos from this dvd/album?

  • mr Bean at 1:43.

  • hahaha totally bean!

  • Great film - haunting, in retrospect when you get to the end shot, and look back on what Giuliani wrought on the once fabulously disheviled city. Hey, the verbal fued between Celtic countrymen is highly entertaining. And I thought only Americans discerned a vast difference between those from the north and those from the south.

  • There's a copy of the video on a Bonus DVD with the 'Directors Cut' edition of Don't stand me down. It includes the whole talking part at the beginning.

  • huh? my copy of the director's cut edition doesn't have a bonus dvd, as i was disappointed to find out. would anyone care to post this video?

  • That really isn't what I expected the video to that song to look like- lack of imagination on my part, clearly.

  • absolute class, dont stand me down is a classic

  • outstanding.....i have been trying to find the whole video.... its about 8 minutes long, it was just about to kick in to a really cool instrumental bit, any idea if there is a way to fond the rest of it ?

  • I've never seen this video before, thanks. Great track from a great album. I defy anyone to hear this and not spend the rest of the day humming it.

  • guy on drums... his outfit... O____O

  • awesome! don't stand me down is grrreat!

  • for your information oh mighty chav-a-choas or whatever your silly name - me and my mates who ran the midnight runners off broad street were are and am brummies and not as you indicate fucking southern fucks..but listen thanks for the thought..who knows next year you might have another

  • yeah kevin was crying and he kept saying hit him hit him not me..pointing at other band member bob whothefuckami yeah he was soft as shit was our kevin hahahahahaha

  • gotta respect a man who's able to cry, the Studdly words just make some of us care about Kevin more

  • I miss Eileen.

  • thatsmabhoy is a very silly person who cannot even spell the rude words that I imagine constitute the majority of his vocabulary - you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity; and kevin cried like a sissy girly-boy when he saw how awesomely hard I am

  • was born on a Dublin street where the Royal drums do beat

And the loving English feet they tramped all over us,

And each and every night when me father'd come home tight

He'd invite the neighbours outside with this chorus:

Oh, come out you black and tans,

Come out and fight me like a man

Show your wife how you won medals fown in Flanders

    Tell them how the IRA

Made you run like hell away,

From the green and lovely lanes in Killashandra

  • LOL!!!!

  • Great! They were on the right track, God what happened?

  • "Fabulous,Super.....I don't really like these scumbags".LOVE IT! The best lyrics from the 80's. Thanks for posting.

  • Dont Stand Me Down was slated at the time, i think it was him rather than the music they hated because it was self indulgent brilliance, now years later t he critics regard it as a classic. It was always so .... was'nt it Bill

  • no overalls or beanies??

    im lost

  • Where are the overalls?

  • I have always ranted to anybody who would listen about just how great Dont Stand Me Down is,to the people who dont believe me,its your loss....

  • my mates kicked his ass on streets of brum about a hundred years ago..anytime kevin you softie

  • well thats sounds a typically constructive comment; take it you're a thick brummie cant than.

  • fucking southern fuck ,brummies rule and we would kick your chav asses anytime

  • Finding out that this favourite track has a video has made my day. Fantastic, thank you.

  • I never knew this video existed. Brookes Brothers Bostin'.

  • thanks this is the BEST.

  • One of the best and most underated tracks that Dexys ever made from an equally superb album. Never seen this video before.Thanks.Now.. What were you all talking about when I came in?

  • THIS is BRILLIANT! Thanks so much.

  • Okay, I am a sucker for songs like this. It's stupidly romantic. Just dumb. A guy completely arse over tit about a burd. "Tell me, what's she like?" Now I'm just floating thinking about her. And I'm gonna express myself about her.

    Effin' 'ell!!! I hate wimen.

  • A cool tune. Try watching this only one time - it's impossible. DOn't Stand Me Down is an album worth picking up too.

  • Magnificent. Thanks for this.
