one of the few pianists who could turn colleagues into incoherent stammerers at his recitals! Horowitz and Glenn Gould had the same impact, you'd leave the hall feeling you had witnessed an impossible miracle!
@Bananayoghurt1000 I was wondering the same thing, and I would also like to know the reason the first prize wasn't awarded that year(and the year after I think). Does anyone know? I've looked everywhere for an answer, but have found nothing yet.
Hombre!
Horowitz is a bit more colorful and interesting in the beginning, but I like Sultanov in this a lot too. He basically matches Horowitz technically nearly everywhere, and dominates the accelerando.
OH MY GOD! HOW DID YOU GET THIS WONDERFUL VIDEO??? Do you have any more of the lovely Sultanov!? I saw him in 1989 at the cliburn, and what a sad thing of his death in 2005 :(!

why did this dude refuse second prize at International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition ?
Bananayoghurt1000 11 months ago
@Bananayoghurt1000 Actually, the judges were to much unsympathetic, they also didn't give 1st prices to best Mazurka, Concerto or Polonaise.

With all due respect to Horowitz, I don't really like how he changed the piece. I love the original better.

@mazingerduke
Lugansky, p.ej.

The cut at around 5:40 is a pity.
