I might be mistaken, but isn't Semele an oratorio? They don't even need the lounge suits and thrift store dresses. The singing is wonderful, but I'd buy the CD so that I didn't have to look at the ridiculous setting. I agree with the two critics on that score.

Beautifully sung and played. How ever, ruined by yet another production in lounge suits and characterless frocks. It may still be trendy, but it is short hand for imagination. More like lack of it.Gods, reduced to middle aged middle class middle taste.When can we see an end to it, They sound like gods, let them look like them too.
