Well, i would like to be able to order searchresults by release date. whether date in the forum or date when google has crawled the content and added to its database.
many many times i search something on a subject and top results tend to be comments in forums made in the year 2001 or so, which i am not at all interested in most of the times and which is completely out of date and with absolutely no relevance on what i am looking for, mostly!!
ok you're right :-)) but do you know how many average people/searchers klick on advanced search?? many don't even know that it exists. a radio button under the searchfield would be helpfull in my opinion.
Sometimes seeing the parameters comes in handy. A little "get link" link on results pages with a simplified version of the link copied to your clipboard would be a good solution. Sorta like YouTube but cleaner.
Images...I would just LOVE to be able to upload an ACTUAL IMAGE and say 'go find it'...see where it came from originally, what it's called, who is using it on their site etc.
I have to use a plugin for Google to show results within the last Day, Week, Month, Quarter, Half year, Year, 2yrs or 3yrs etc (it sits there right beside the input box.
I'd like a date limiting factor on search results as a standard feature beside the search box.
Some searches I am only interested in the latest news, not results from ages ago without having to go in to advanced search options to stipulate this one common thing.
matts sugesstion is very nice indeed and if would like to filter out these crapy company indexs, which just provide the adress of a company and nothing more. I hate those sites, makes it hard to finde the actuall information for a company your searching for.
This is no SEO ... SEO is good content in semantic code. nothing more nothing less.
I agree Matt, I've had the same thought. But seeing that extra stuff was how I first began to wonder how google search works, and now Im watching your vids. Thanks for the vid!
How about a little icon next to the promote, comment or remove icons that allows you to open that result in a new window. Saves having to keep clicking the back button to get back to the search results :)
@yfenniseo In most browsers, something like holding Shift or Control while clicking on the result will open the link in a new window or tab. I don't think it'd be worth adding more icons to the search result page just to duplicate this behavior.
My top request (at the moment) would be for something akin to nofollow that actually stops spiders from grabbing the link at all (since nofollow just says they shouldn't assign linkjuice, but they may still follow it). I've got cases where I have many links with varying CGI strings going to the same base page, and some I want followed and some not (in such a way that neither robots.txt nor Paramter Handling entirely cover) .
How about some sort of indicatior that tells you how trustworthy a website is. As someone who does a lot of research over the internet, it can sometimes be tough to know what information to trust and what to question especially when you get conflicting opinions. You could even have a 'trusted' status for wesites that displays a special icon by search results. In order to maintain the value of trusted websites, webmasters could be made to apply for the status manually.
I'm not sure I agree that it would be too harsh. I'm not saying that this value should determine SERPS but should just act as an indicator of the level of trust you should place on the content within.
If you think about it, most industries have governing bodies that verify the creditials of a company (CORGI, OFCOM, etc) so why not employ this method with websites? If a website could demonstrate that its content was accurate within it's relevant industry, only then would this icon be displayed.
Good idea definitely. With regards to site trustworthiness - there is a Firefox Plugin called WOT (Web of Trust). It is simialr to what you are explaining. However, it doesn't reflect the trustworthiness of content on the site, instead sites are rated based on the users experience. Its a good tool for knowing for example what sites phish or spam, or are generally not to be trusted.

Doen't this raise the option for an other feature... linksharing? (A little like Stumble, Digg, Delicous)
McBrown83 2 years ago
The feature that i would like added. I would add more file types to the advanced search. like .mp3.

I'd like to see the ability to search for things like "internet" but not include "Internet"
or more control over regular expressions.
Of course, that's mostly because I'd be scraping the results for some nefarious purpose.

Also when is Google alerts going to recognaise Hyphens ('-') in searches???
Random example: an alert for 'serious-sounds' also brings back results for "serioussounds" or for "xe-cute" will also return results for "xecute".
xecutey 2 years ago
Hopefully never. They are used for spaces in urls.
opticseo 2 years ago
Yeah, I use it in my URL and my web alerts get mixed up with another websites which does not use the hyphen. That is my point! Duh!

That's pretty weird.
opticseo 2 years ago
Yeah, it's very annoying.
Normal Google searches can tell the difference in searches, so I don't know why Google Alerts can't.

That would be too harsh for the smaller websites and you can't trust any information you find online until you look into it.
