I don't think it's enough to say "read it six months later", it doesn't make up for the fact that it's the exact same story. Look at the Dark Moon Rising stories, very similar, yet very different stories. I love TLH. While Dark Victory had it's moments, I was personally very disapointed.
I have a feeling that this graphic novel is one of the influences for the story of Batman 3 and I'm so psyched now that Chris Nolan has officially said that he's reworking the script and now coming back to direct! Since Batman: Year One was the main influence for Batman Begins and The Long Halloween is the main influence for The Dark Knight, I now have a strong feeling that this will be the main influence for Batman 3 for some strange reason.
I think The Penguin was pretty funny in this book and I like how they kind of referenced Burgess Merediths Penguin from the 60s Adam West Batman in this book where penguin says waugh waugh waugh lol
I read this right after Long Halloween as well and have the same thoughts. I thought they just shoe-horned Robin in very suddenly towards the end and didn't do anything with him other than have the 8-year-old kid beat up a bunch of adult psychos and be all obnoxious about it. Other than that, I guess it was okay, but I'm not even sure how much of a point there was in even making this sequel.
Love your reviews.
Only problem I have is the fact you say noir incorrectly.
Considering this is my only problem, you're an awesome guy ;)

The climaxes between TLH/DV are night and day

im not really sure is this the third or second part because i dont noe if the batman: haunted night is apart of the actual story
jjoe23jj 1 year ago
@jjoe23jj Haunted Knight isn't. It's 3 stand alone issues that they did before Long Halloween.

should i read this rite after long halloween
serzh123aaa 2 years ago
I would wait. Because even though it's a sequel it's very very similar so it feels like your just getting the same story twice.

I think the he did the same thing in Ultimates 3.
Also I think we'll find that Red Hulk is much the same.

I don't hate Jeph Loeb. I think most of his work is like this -- not great, but good.
Have you read Superman for All Seasons? I thought Tim Sale's homage to / mimic of Norman Rockwell was really good, and fit the story well.

I have. I like it. But the art is terrible.

The art rocks! I don't know what your talkin about

I hate that artist. I've never seen him do anything I think is even competent.

I'm not the biggest fan of dark victory, but it is at least better than hush. (even though that's not very hard to accomplish).

Nice review.
I personally found it disappointing. However, I did enjoy the killing of Chief O' Hara early in the story.

Yeah I thought it was dissapointing next to Long Halloween (my favorite Batman story of all time).
